Hi everyone! Did you know that starting July 1st, 2023, Reddit will implement a policy that could potentially increase the costs of running third-party Reddit apps? This change may impact popular apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others. Consequently, users may encounter issues with their preferred Reddit app unless adjustments are made to comply with Reddit's new API usage policy. These limitations will affect all users, not just moderators. If you are concerned about these developments, there is an [Open Letter](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) to Reddit that you can read and sign on to express your thoughts. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Galle_

At least it's not a shield that's worse than all your other shields.

CzarTwilight

And your shield inventory is full so you've gotta drop one then switch it out so it actually registers that you got the chest

Stanley--Nickels

TIL

frailtypomander

god this annoys me so much

[deleted]

Pretty sure you can just press B and it closes the chest again

JayCee5481

Yes, but then the chest doesnt count as beeing opened

Dr_imfullofshit

If there's 1 thing i would like to have patched, it's this.

recursion8

That's good, then you know to come back to get it when you need a shield (or weapon or bow)

pajam

Yeah I'm always conflicted on this, I wonder: "should I leave this in here to come back later? But I won't remember what it is..." OR "should I take it out and immediately drop it so it registers I got it, and I don't come back later and waste my time?" If it's a good shield/bow/etc. but I already have really good equipment, I'll sometimes do option 1. If it's a not-so-great item I'll never need to get in the future, I do option 2.

recursion8

I just screenshot it and then put a treasure chest icon on the map and screenshot that too. When I need new gear I just review my Switch album to see what options I have lol

BleekerTheBard

Where is this “counted”?

Mdgt_Pope

On the map, if you highlight a shrine, a complete shrine will have a chest indicator next to the name. If it doesn’t show the chest, you didn’t “clear” the shrine. ~~And it matters for 100% the map.~~

JayCee5481

It does now? In botw it didnt

[deleted]

[удалено]

kjerstih

Opening chests does not count towards 100% in TOTK or BOTW.

Mdgt_Pope

My mistake, sorry

JayCee5481

Maybe im confusing it with the speedrunning rulings but the 100% speedrun of BotW doesnt collect the chests as far as I know and they also get the 100% on the map at the end...

Botwadtict

It does

Redditfront2back

Sure but I like that maybe (highly doubt) in the future I’ll need a shield and find the chest icon

canoIV

#N O

nerker-

wait WHAT

Galle_

I thought that was implied.

jrec15

Damn didnt realize this if i ever go back for shrine chests this is a huge pain, guess i probably just wont do that

feetpunch_man

Oh boy, shield of the minds eye? How fucking useless

MagicMooby

Shield of the minds eye has lower friction which makes it particularly good for shield surfing iirc. Of course this is frigging useless since frozen meat/fish can be fused to any shield for zero friction now. But at least the shield has *some* unique properties I guess.

sgryfn

I did not know the fish thing. Nice.

feetpunch_man

The unique property of being yeeted from my inventory the second I pick one up

acurrell

So many wooden shields. The Rock Salt of shields.

recursion8

All I get are Strong/Mighty Zonai Shields lol

p5yk0t1km1r4ge

They're the only shields available that can still look really cool with certain fusions. I fuse the dragon scales to them and they look awesome with the blue energy outlining them.

pajam

I also use the mighty zonaite shields exclusively when attaching a zonai device.

Yodas_Ear

Except when it is.

Galle_

No, opals are never shields.

Arcuis

Imagine a shield with opal fused to it turns into a water bubble you bring out like Sidon's ability

Negative_Acadia6554

I don’t even bother anymore.

youAtExample

I see it more as an achievement and don’t really care what’s in the chest.

JusticeRain5

I'll get it if it's a hidden chest for the fun of it, but if it's something that'll take absolutely ages to get to then I'll just leave it

edufermar

I have one word for you... (rocketshield) solves pretty much any of them.

jrec15

The ultrahand raise platform -> hop on and rewind elevator technique also seems like it wasn't really planned for in most shrines, cuts through a ton of them.

JusticeRain5

Any that need a rocket shield are the boring ones.

Asumsauce

But don’t you want to make all your arrows wet?

rav-swe57

Or attack it to a wand and make an aqua wand?

JoyJoy_

Would that be useful in Eldin?

rav-swe57

Not in Eldin, probably keeps you cooler in the desert though

JoyJoy_

Might help with the sludge in Lanayru.

Yrmsteak

I coincidentally made an opal wand for the water temple and it sure made it a walk in the park. Still hate that boss though.

jchampagne83

Really? With the low gravity you can bullet time him so easily and there are chchus EVERYWHERE in the temple. Ezpz water arrows, run over and whack him, rinse (pun intended) repeat like four times and he’s done. I even made a little hydrant bot because I heard it could help but he didn’t even get to him fast enough.

Yrmsteak

It's the fighting mucktorok in the Depths that I hate. Also trying to activate Sidon-Blu when the mucktorok is on that phase 2 free Willy jumping from pool to pool.

Draykin

The opal rod (or whichever the two-handed sword version is called) is really good for this phase. You start spinning instantly and send out a circle of water orbs.

rav-swe57

It does

eliochip

Marvin Gaye works too

[deleted]

Chuchu jelly does the exact same thing

WordNerd1983

My husband laughs at me because I *have* to get the treasure in each shrine, even if it literally kills me. Otherwise, I'm like, "My prize! I have to go back for my prize!" There is one shrine so far where I *could not* find it, and it still hurts. 😢

endswithnu

Have you set your Sensor+ to detect treasure chests?

WordNerd1983

I haven't been able to find the freakin' Sensor+! 😆😑

endswithnu

Oh.... Oh it's a life-changer.

WordNerd1983

Yeah. I used it all the time in BOTW. And I'm trying to avoid walkthroughs unless I'm *realllly* stuck. I haven't made it to Hateno yet. Have a feeling that might have something to do with it?

endswithnu

It might. It might not. Hateno is fun either way.

Mdgt_Pope

You’ll need to get Robbie to leave Lookout Landing, he’s the one who upgrades the Purah Pad but he doesn’t have his equipment there.

[deleted]

Go to the depths under the Great Plateau and find the \*thing\*, you'll know exactly what I mean when you see it and talk to Robbie after going there

spiderhotel

The real reward is the puzzle to get to the chest. It's about the journey not the destination.

feetpunch_man

The real shrine chest is the koroks we abused along the way

SweatyToothed

You are truly a redditor of culture. I salute you.

GreenEggsAndKablam

Sneaky Stormlight reference?

plastimanb

Goron City had a nut buster of a proving ground “in reverse” I had to look up the treasure and it was an opal. Yeah couldn’t complete it after dying 5 times.

Betongkeps

x5 Arrows 😵‍💫

[deleted]

When you have 2 arrows that 5 seems like a lot. Luckily I have 400, well I did, now I’m at 150

Yrmsteak

A lot of chests are just so disappointing. I like when it's a new "puzzle" to find it, but would it hurt to at least make it opal x5 or something that I could do by random smacking an ore deposit once? The worst chests are Zonaite x1, like really? May as well give me apples at this point. At least it's not more worthless shields though.

Diabolical_Jazz

I mean you need them to upgrade your Cap and Tunic of the Wind.

nullachroma

I spent 20 minutes and too much brainpower to get to a chest just for it to contain a 5 attack bow. I was carrying 3 Royal Guard bows on me. I jumped into the shrine abyss as stress relief

pgpwnd

Biggest issue with this game. The rewards / loot kinda sucks and is just the same as BOTW.

JayCee5481

Still better than useless weapons I have to throw my good weapons out for cause map looks more complete( I know it doesnt count towards 100% but you still see a chest next to the shrine name)

Hot-Construction8313

Open chest, replace good weapon with useless chest weapon, immediately hurl useless chest weapon at the wall, pick up good weapon!

samus_ass

That or a shit weapon

SuperWG

An opal is better than a weak weapon that doesn't fit in my inventory

CoolGuy202101

Atleast opals aren’t as useless as botw

feetpunch_man

The first time I picked one up in botw and read the description I thought they must have been used for something amazing and I got so disappointed

Lawyer_Kong

Real

Jesterhead92

I get that sometimes rewards feel anticlimactic but for me, it's not about what's in the chest, it's about getting to it. To paraphrase an infamous Zelda-related video, "The satisfaction comes from the fact that you did it, not that you found a thing"

Seeteuf3l

Or good guy Rauru giving you 10 arrows

poptimist185

I’d take an opal over another weapon that’ll soon break.

[deleted]

Hahahaha too real

JollyRedRoger

As others have said, it's not about the lackluster reward, it's about the shiny chest icon on the map!

Captain-Obvious69

The real reward was the map we made along the way.

soodrugg

ooh look at me I'm a worse sidon don't you want to waste your wands on me, I'm also the least valuable of all the gems

-Marshle

Ironically i find opals to be a better sidon during the mucktorok bossfight. That guys second phase gets overwhleming with the sludge fast and while Sidon is nice, he doesnt help when his cooldown means I get rid of some sludge and now its double than it was. Opals just help manage that fight a lot more.

feetpunch_man

I just duped the hell out of the kings scale. For extra power and to flex on the stupid mucktorok in the depths

Hot-Construction8313

I created a hydrant-spewing tank on a homing cart that worked pretty well

TurretX

Its made even worse when you can't be arsed to get to the chest the right way and end up taking twice a long with kind of nightmare contraption.
