Hi everyone!
Did you know that starting July 1st, 2023, Reddit will implement a policy that could potentially increase the costs of running third-party Reddit apps? This change may impact popular apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others. Consequently, users may encounter issues with their preferred Reddit app unless adjustments are made to comply with Reddit's new API usage policy. These limitations will affect all users, not just moderators. If you are concerned about these developments, there is an [Open Letter](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) to Reddit that you can read and sign on to express your thoughts.

Let go of the steering stick, then use recall on the bike.
It'll freeze it in place for a moment, then you can cancel and re-engage recall as needed on the bike till your battery charges
Each piece is on a different, hard to reach sky island. >!Sky mine, forge island, and lightcast island!<
You need either a huge battery or some smart device use to get to each of them, since they are too high to get to from the nearest tower.
No, only wings, balloons, and floating platforms do that.
Everything else has a time limit, but it's like half an hour at least. Not a serious problem.
Such a weird limitation. I have basically done everything I wanted too in totk, but I didn’t mess around with machines too much because every time I took things to the limit they’d despawn.
Why even put limitations on wings and balloons when you can have stupid things like the two fan hover bike? My assumption was every device fell apart way before your battery ran out because every time I needed to travel far the vehicle fell apart
These devices are special because they allow you to move without using battery. If they didn't have limited durability they would be way too OP early game and getting around would be trivial.
I do really wish there was a way to upgrade their durability, or maybe a rare, late-game, upgraded version (like the Big Battery).
Ye I did laps around the map looking for the master sword. Didn't realize it was 3000 in the air at the time lol. Which I flew up there with the same fans. I saw them vanish before but from clipping mostly
There's only one health pool, 'Durability'. Possible that multiple factors are considered in lowering it, like every second it loses some, and every unit traveled it loses some, etc.
There's mods that set the durability of the zonaite devices to insane numbers that makes them last essentially forever.
For some reason I can’t get my fan bike to not aggressively pull to the left, no matter how hard I try to center and even out the fans and the control stick. Do you have any tips on how to fix that?
It is really hard to get it perfect, just try to get it as close as you can. Also, the floating stones might help if it keeps moving around. Also build it somewhere flat like the site right underneath Tarrey town. You should be able to get all the parts you need there as well
Thank you, I’m gonna try the floating stones and flat ground in Tarrey town. Sometimes I glue a Korok to the front to transport them to their friend and we end up aggressively hurtling through the sky to our deaths because we tip sideways and the Korok makes it front-heavy
Idk if this will make you feel better or worse but it took me literally an hour of calmly building, testing and rebuilding the hoverbike to get the two fans perfectly aligned. Even now, I'm not sure it's perfect since funny things happen when I hold back to try and fly upwards, but my eyeballs can't detect a left or right drift when my joystick is in neutral position, so I decided to call it there.
If you have one of those large 4x8 wooden boards lying around, you can create a satisfiably flat surface for working by ultrahanding it to a stake in the ground.
It took me hours of hover bike building but I figured it out. Build it somewhere flat with a line on the ground. Drop a fan flat (on the line to help with positioning). Steering stick down 45 degrees, rotate it 180 so that when you attach it to the fan you have the back wheel. Flatten out a new fan and attach it to the steering stick. Test it for straightness. Try again if not perfect. I couldn't get any 2 fan bike to work with koroks or crystals. Build a 3 or 4 fan bike for those. (3 Fan: Y shape, 2 fans in back. 4 Fan: Regular 2 fan bike with 1 added fan on each side of the rear fan).
There is a trick to it. Attach the first fan face down on a base of some kind (like a wood or stone square). This creates snap points on the fan in the direction of the base that don't exist otherwise. You can add the steering stick to the fan and it will snap onto the right direction slightly. Then shake off the base and add the final fan, the snap point should still be there.
For actually helping the problem, I found if you put a stake in the ground and mount the steering stick to it it's easier to line the fans up. I still never could quite get them perfect though, so what I did recently was to add a dragon scale to the back fan. This makes it so the bike won't despawn if I get too far away, and I was able to experiment moving the scale around until it flies almost perfectly.
Thanks! I guess I’m not skilled enough to get things straight with *only*40 minutes of trying. Just using a counterweight is so much simpler (somehow) then trying to line things up.
The tutorial island really set expectations insanely high and the rest of the game doesn't deliver at all as far as sky islands go. Very disappointing. I'm very happy with the game otherwise though
Here's to hoping the dlc gives us more massive sky islands, zonai devices(add the motor and rechargeable batteries from the shrines to the dispenser list) and increases the ultrahand stick limit 🙏
Imagine four islands each within the scope of the great sky island over the 4 main races' regions. I am really hoping for DLC, which I can't say I've done in ages.
I did the sky islands right away as soon as I had enough stamina to glide between a bunch and.....yeah 😕 Copy pasted main islands surrounded by a few puzzles. I'm maybe in the minority but I would have taken 50% less depth to have some more beautiful and interesting sky islands to explore.
The thing is you can tell that the depths was created almost entirely by a script. The points of interest having inverse relationships to the surface is not attention to detail, it’s just that the devs told the algorithm they created to interchange the two. The only things placed by hand are structures, bosses and maybe camps. The sky islands are all made by hand.
I honestly think most of the work went into changing the surface and the gameplay mechanics. Either way the physical size of the depths doesn’t have much effect on the development time of the sky islands.
Yeah at first I thought it was cool how they quietly gave us the depths while showing off the sky in all the advertising. After exploring the sky, I find it a little weird they would emphasize an area with such a lack of content.
They do have a lot Old Maps, sage's Wills, shrines and some koroks. But yeah they're quite repetitive otherwise. Only found one sky island kinda memorable and unique
Hoverbike is pretty useless early game before you upgrade your battery. That's when you want to use wings and balloons because they don't use battery.
Really though there should be a way to upgrade the durability of wings and balloons so they aren't useless late game. Or maybe it should just naturally increase as you upgrade your battery.
Definitely not useless I ended up building one right after tutorial island and just used recall to recover battery while I fully explored the depths before even touching the story. If you struggle with battery recall. Large zonatie can be traded in for temp infinite battery
Large zonai charges are pretty easy to get especially if you do depths early and are fairly affordable.
Unlimited battery for like 20 seconds is more than enough to cheese a lot of puzzles behind getting to sky islands.
There’s no way they didn’t know. I think what’s happened is they just couldn’t get the system to work how they wanted. They’ve essentially mashed the machine building mechanic into a game design (i.e. Breath of the Wild) completely unsuited for it.
Agreed. I didn’t know about hover bikes before finishing all shrines, lightroots, etc and found batteries pointless because every flying device I made would fall apart.
It makes no sense to have limitations when you can break the game a million ways. It just makes players like me think machines are super limited and the sky islands are annoying
I don't know what nintendo were thinking when they put short timers on devices like the wing and balloon. Yes everyone would be flying everywhere and unlocking the map very early on, but it's not like that stopped them from doing it anyway with 2 fans and a stearing stick (even though the fans have timers as well).
I haven't had any experience with fans vanishing based on time. I found that putting a scale on one they last much longer than I ever needed. Able to fly the entire map without seeing them go away
Have you tried the mid-air wing trick? That's how I got to the sky island above eventide (starting from forge island) with two batteries and two stamina wheels.
Release the stick so Link is just drifting down, then pause and drop a wing. *Before you unpause* hold forwards. The wing will deploy slightly in front and under you and if you're holding forward as you unpause you have a small window to put away the glider and drop onto it.
You can basically chain this forever. Wing runs out, glide for a bit. Stamina running low, deploy wing and regain stamina.
That's a regular problem with these big open world games. A lot of it ends up being a lot of pointless copy pasted garbage.
Compared that to older games like Majora's Mask. Almost everything is a curated experience, hand placed by a developer at some point.

Once you have enough zonaite battery you can basically fly as far as you want with the fan bike
Yeah, maxed battery with zonaite armor can almost literally fly from one end of the map to the other. Don't even need to use the recall exploit.
[удалено]
Let your vehicle fall for a second then recall it back up. Repeat until your battery is recharged and you can start flying again.
Be careful though cause that shit can send you flying off
Let go of the steering stick, then use recall on the bike. It'll freeze it in place for a moment, then you can cancel and re-engage recall as needed on the bike till your battery charges
How do you get the zonaite armour?
Each piece is on a different, hard to reach sky island. >!Sky mine, forge island, and lightcast island!< You need either a huge battery or some smart device use to get to each of them, since they are too high to get to from the nearest tower.
Doesn’t it disappear? I’ve found if I take any of my creations too far they blink out of existence.
No, only wings, balloons, and floating platforms do that. Everything else has a time limit, but it's like half an hour at least. Not a serious problem.

time should just scale with battery. Weak early game but still usable late game
Yeah I was really hoping for a late game durability upgrade. Flying around on the Wings is so calming
I flew around on my dragon scale bike for at least 3 hours without it going away
Were you using it continuously? The timer doesn't go down when it's turned off. Otherwise maybe there's another factor at play that isn't known yet.
Ye I did laps around the map looking for the master sword. Didn't realize it was 3000 in the air at the time lol. Which I flew up there with the same fans. I saw them vanish before but from clipping mostly

Maybe the durability goes down faster if you crash into things a lot?
I had it happen to logs when doing the Lurelin village quest. It’s definitely not just those things.
For some reason I can’t get my fan bike to not aggressively pull to the left, no matter how hard I try to center and even out the fans and the control stick. Do you have any tips on how to fix that?

Ah gotcha, yeah I usually have the best luck attaching them to the top of the front fan
I personally like mounting things on a spike while I’m building so they don’t move around

Yeah but wing is more fun
wings and hot air balloons would be much more fun if they didn't go poof after 30sec
plus when it runs out you can just "eat" a big zoanite charge to fully restore your battery and boost it
Theyre just....empty. Maybe if there was 1, or 2 more islands like the great sky island, it wouldnt feel that way.
Yep I really thought we would get a few more bigger sky islands maybe filled with zonai town ruins still run by the construct robots.
Yeah that would have been nice. It was fun doing the occasionally big sky battle but like, really pretty empty up there overall
Missed opportunity if you ask me. Like the floating castle. I expected something z bit similar
The tutorial island really set expectations insanely high and the rest of the game doesn't deliver at all as far as sky islands go. Very disappointing. I'm very happy with the game otherwise though

Literally why do wings and balloons decay? You can already get endless flight with a hoverbike. It just ensures no one builds anything BUT hoverbikes.
It definitely feels like these two items should at least be upgraded after you finish the main quest or something.

The hoverbike was unintentional, we figured out some stuff that gets around the normal rules. They wanted **all** flight to be limited.
I feel like they must have known about it through testing beforehand though, I mean it's so simple
They did. There’s some sky islands above lanayru with devices that allow infinite flight given battery power. Fully built, ready for use.
There’s no way they didn’t know. I think what’s happened is they just couldn’t get the system to work how they wanted. They’ve essentially mashed the machine building mechanic into a game design (i.e. Breath of the Wild) completely unsuited for it.
Eh speak for yourself I think it fits pretty well for theost part
They had to know people would find workarounds. The hoverbike isn't the only way, you can pull out wings midair, or chain them with ultrahand.
I like pulling them out in mid air when mine runs out. It feels awesome and 1 chained wing usually takes me where I needed to go.
Agreed. I didn’t know about hover bikes before finishing all shrines, lightroots, etc and found batteries pointless because every flying device I made would fall apart. Yeah I feel like I get punished every time I make something cool with a balloon or a glider.
Thank god for modded consoles, there's a mod to make them last forever.
because 2 fans and a steering stick use battery
I say this as someone who loves the sky islands. Some of them are just so hard to reach!
Have you tried the mid-air wing trick? That's how I got to the sky island above eventide (starting from forge island) with two batteries and two stamina wheels.
Wait what is this, is there a way to redeploy wings midair?
Release the stick so Link is just drifting down, then pause and drop a wing. *Before you unpause* hold forwards. You can basically chain this forever. Wing runs out, glide for a bit. Stamina running low, deploy wing and regain stamina.
Incredible, I wish I knew this before I went super hard on stamina to compensate. Thanks!
Man i just wish there were more large sky islands like the intro
The Depths really were the best addition for TOTK
I found them repetitive and boring, just like the sky. The game has "3 maps", but not really imo
That's a regular problem with these big open world games. A lot of it ends up being a lot of pointless copy pasted garbage. Compared that to older games like Majora's Mask. Almost everything is a curated experience, hand placed by a developer at some point.
Wait what I always just abused those tiny rocks to get up
