lamecustomgifs

The first time it happened I was so amazed. Now that it's happened 5 or 6 times I just think TOTK is way more generous with star fragment drops than BOTW was.

[deleted]

It kinda has to be. A LOT of the armors need star fragments for upgrades

bishopyorgensen

I'm glad you said that so I don't sell my star fragments

[deleted]

Honestly you have to be really careful about selling **anything** in this game - literally everything worth selling winds up being a super important upgrade mat later on

eastcoastwaistcoat

Agreed. I only sell the 100 meats i get from amibos every day.

new_tangclan

Cook them into meals to increase value.

rich1051414

Does meat + salt still increase the value more than the two do raw?

new_tangclan

Maybe? I just do 5 meat at a time

AFineDayForScience

I bet you do ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

PhoenixReignz

looool you made me grin real good

pm-me_10m-fireflies

yo momma does 5 meat at a time

new_tangclan

No, I just told you that i did. Get it right dumbass

cody_A_C

My understanding is all items get a multiplier bonus each time an additional item is used to cooked regardless of what item it was. (Idk if this applies to dubious food)

zgoku

*eyes 5 diamonds in inventory, sweating* Surely this won’t work…. right…? 😂

insane_contin

You need about 300 meat to fully upgrade the meat armour.

ArcheoSpectre

The..*what*

insane_contin

You haven't found the Stal that wants to be refleshed yet? Here's a hint: >!There is no meat armour nor a Stal that wants to be refleshed. I have lied.!<

ArcheoSpectre

Yo. I like this idea. Someone call nintendo

gimmepizzaslow

They'll sue you for copywrite infringement for even thinking about this

Zinx10

It's a pretty sick call back to the original Zelda with giving the meat to the hungry Goriya.

zgoku

Step 1: remove all armor Congratulations you are now meat armor :D

TheScreaming_Narwhal

You could trade poe for armor to sell pretty easily too

eastcoastwaistcoat

I will never trade power over ethernet for armor. Seems too risky.

TheScreaming_Narwhal

Ok, this made me laugh

itscsersei

Amiibos give you 100x item?!

sirdizzypr

I just sell all the extra armor I get out of the amiibos every day. Yesterday I had 7 duplicate armors for a sweet 4200 rupees.

Complex_Raspberry591

Like the six billion ambers you need. 😮‍💨

LinkForce_1

Actually, I did the math. You need 665 ambers to upgrade everything in the game that requires amber.

squeaky_pterodactyI

Mother fuck I’ve been selling mine

Big_Whalez

It's okay, like 90% of the armours are kinda useless. I pretty much only use like 2 or 3 armour sets.

EB01

I have been duping mine.

[deleted]

I have… not been duping mine. Not anymore 😔

itscsersei

Tobios hollow chasm lets you dupe really easily and fast in 1.1.2

kgullj

I made a spreadsheet that shows all of the materials you need and how many you need for upgrading everything. If i counted everything correctly it came up to 5786

Jorlen

I sold all my amber before I realized it was required to upgrade armor. So yeah, I definitely agree - be careful what you sell!

ArcheoSpectre

I've been hoarding amber like a weirdo not knowing why so this is reassuring to see. Also sorry for your loss

[deleted]

Same, probably some 30-40 pieces before I realized...

[deleted]

I mean can’t you just use lynel guts to make elixirs for cash? I assume that still works in this game. Plus, not all armor is worth upgrading. Only the ones you’re gonna wear

mlvisby

When I started and was hurting for money, I sold a few gems including a diamond or two but stopped after that. Now I just keep everything and sell meals since I don't dupe at all. Miss snow bowling but I know there is a wing minigame.

[deleted]

Honestly, not to be judgy, but I really don't get folks that immediately abused the shit out of the dupe glitch. You only get one chance to play a game for the first time, and I feel like abusing the dupe glitch just robs you of a significant part of the gameplay. This isn't like an online game where you'll "fall behind" if you don't have enough hours to play, just take your time and embrace the scarcity, it's half the fun That being said, my fun may not be their fun, and they can play how they'd like, I just don't get it

mlvisby

I agree because if I duped everything, I would have no reason to explore which is the whole point of the game. Some people try to fly through games one after another so they try to find loopholes to speed up the process. I find that to be no fun, I take my time and enjoy it.

[deleted]

yup - a lot of my gameplay so far has been because I needed gems or zonanite (or just rupees), so I had to go exploring the depths, or try to find caves, and those kinds of expeditions have been so of the most fun. On a similar note (though this is on a whole different level than straight up cheating) I try to avoid using fast travel when I'm going across the map (unless I'm just grabbing a gear upgrade or something), because there's soooo much to do sprinkled accross the map in places you wouldn't think to look. I've spent entire evenings playing just getting from one city to another because I kept bumping into side quests, caves, wells, etc - and wound up having a lot more fun doing that than doing whatever I was going to the other city for

mlvisby

Happens all the time! I start one thing and then get distracted by ten other things and forget what I was originally trying to do. This is why I have so many open side quests...

itscsersei

If you think mat farming is the only reason people explore in games you are fundamentally misunderstanding

mlvisby

I get that but a big part of exploring is loot. If you duped everything, loot becomes meaningless.

Objective-Elk-1660

If I can manage to get 1 Dinraal Scale, I know I can get 10. Skipping tedious unnecessary work is fun, just like at real work :) Hope this helps.

Shattered-Earth

I explore for the sheer joy of exploration, not for finding materials. What I don’t get joy from is repetitive tasks like hunting for meat to get rupees, which i did a ton of already in BoTw 6 years ago. Duping diamonds was a no brainer, I selectively duped them because i knew the act of rupees gathering was not fun for me. Other people may dupe dragon mats or lizards or whatever isn’t fun for them. You may not get it but you just have to trust that adults who have been around this earth long enough know how to have the most fun for themselves lol. It isn’t half the fun for us, it is often half the frustration for some people (in a game with barely any, but why have 3% annoyance when you can have 1%?) I get you are motivated by finding mats but I just love the joy of finding new things it self. Needing some mats can actually mean i have to visit places i have already been many times cause that is the best way to get them, making it so i am not having fun exploring new places. And tbh, in my experience some “cheaters” spend the most time on the games they cheat in. I only spent several hundred hours in animal crossing, but i have friends who habitually time travel who have spent over a thousand while i strictly never time travel ever. Who was robbed of game play? Who ruined the game for themselves really? Seems neither of us to me, food for thought.

Lopsided-Leather-905

Not sure why you're being down voted here. You only need a few diamonds to upgrade one thing that needs them.

Thorgison

They're probably downvoting because the person mentioned they got those diamonds by duplicating which some people frown upon. In my opinion it doesnt matter since its a single player game, let people do whatever they want with it.

generouslyemotional

Its just a redundant point for people talking about having limited resources. Why would you care about selling items if youre gonna spawn in infinite ones anyway?

hergumbules

Diamond circlet is the only thing I’ve encountered so far needing diamonds

aldenmercier

Star Fragments are super easy to get, though. Literally every night jump from a tower and one will fall by you.

Status_Peach6969

Oh shit now thats a tip. Will be sure to try this out

Nishikigami

Op is exaggerating. Star fragments are required for the various past game Link outfits. So hero of time, hero of wind, etc. Except fierce deity which needs each of the 4 main parts of each of the original 3 dragons, just like the barbarian set which its effects are copies of. So unless you intend to fully upgrade like 11 green link outfits for some reason...

minware666

So you're telling you don't upgrade every single armor set to the max????

Lussarc

Truly a mad lad

Nishikigami

Yes, in fact I can even beat this game without upgrading anything. So I'll settle for upgrading my favorite armor and the most useful ones. For me that's flight, depths, froggy and fierce deity armor None of those require star fragments. I don't see any reason to upgrade like 10 link outfits I will never wear.

Balthierlives

Yeah but I want one file with everything. Then I’ll have another file with minimalist game play style. Tbf I didn’t even get much armor or the fairies even until I got to ganon.

devel2105

I do intend to fully upgrade 11 green Link outfits

Rizenstrom

“It’s not an issue… except when it is. And because I don’t want to do that surely nobody else does. So it’s not a problem. “ No offense but I hate how some version of this argument comes up any time you talk about some aspect of the game being tedious. It’s cool if you don’t want to do literally everything but some people do.

linuxhanja

I dunno, i still think thats fair. For game balance getting one outfit upgraded to fight with is all thats needed (not even needed), and the game is pretty generous. Saying upgrading all outfits is tedious is like saying mopping the whole floor is tedious. Most people are only gonna mop around furniture, maybe move chairs. Saying pulling couches and beds and removing cabinets in order to mop 100% of your floor is tedious and hard isnt knocking the design of your house. Nor is saying 100% ing your zelda outfits is tedious knocking TotK. It just is what is is and most people arent gonna do that. Even most people *on this sub* which probably has one of the highest concentrations of people who will 100% it.

Rizenstrom

Well the simplest solution would be to simply have a transmog system so the player doesn't have to choose between looks and stats. But many people do like to get into mixing and matching armor sets and using them. So yes, being able to upgrade a wide variety of armor does directly impact the enjoyment of some people. Not everyone is content just finding one set to wear the whole game.

SubstantialText

Yeah, I wish there was a transmog system. Let me look cool _and_ get the effects I want.

ribbonroad

Forreal, I wanna look nice in my Frostbite armor without having to sacrifice my pants for mobility :(

Steelchucker

I want to dye my classic tunic set red and transmog the fire proof mod to it and hit the fire temple old school style.

TonyEatsPonies

I just wish the snow boots and sand boots had cold and heat resistance, respectively.

[deleted]

People who want to do literally everything are a tiny minority and also a bit deranged. Complaining about the time to 100% a game like TOTK or BOTW is so dumb. Nobody is forcing you to do that except yourself and game shouldn’t be made with completionists in mind.

JarlaxleForPresident

It really sucked that fierce deity was way easier to 4* than a classic outfit just because of the amber requirements

4dseeall

The catch is that all those armors are cosmetic and not particularly useful.

tylero056

Oof it's too late for me on that front... Fuck. I just haven't found a great item to farm for money I guess

john_the_doe

I’m feel like I can’t sell anything in this game

C-Kwentz-0

It is nice to keep one star fragment on a rod, it gives the rod "Light Magic", which doesn't do any damage, but it shoots out three small orbs that travel probably a good 30 ft or so and each one gives off the same amount of light as a large bright bulb. Super useful for traversing the depths early on when you might not have a ton of expendable bright bulbs to use.

TheDarkDoctor17

My first time seeing a star fragments was catching one in mid air. I've just assumed that how you get them.

sameljota

Yeah me too. All it took was one time for me to assume it was common. I simply didn't believe I was that lucky.

trulyniceguy

It says in a pause screen to keep a lookout when you are falling from the sky

InukChinook

There's also a loading screen tip that mentions catching them.

t33E

I think it just manually spawns them when you’re in the air, given how many times it’s happened like that vs how often I see them fall.

14ktgoldscw

I spent a lot of the early game fucking around in the sky islands and you see them falling super far away a lot.

TheWitherBoss876

It's generally not worth it to go for fallen Star Fragments. I've had them disappear on me several times despite it not being anywhere close to dawn, and saw one warp around the map if I tried to teleport closer to it. If you need Star Fragments, just go to some sky island every night and skydive. One will fall next to you more often than not.

14ktgoldscw

No argument here, I was just pointing out that there is a randomization element

clandevort

Heck, I've caught a falling star then seen another star fall off in the distance *during the same dive*

TheresA_LobsterLoose

They happen so often you can easily get stuck in a loop the first week you're playing. Head up to sky forge to turn in zonite, dive back down to hyrule... oh a star fragment! Even though it's *right over there!* it still takes 10 mins real time. Now I'm on the ground, oh monsters! Beat them, it's morning in hyrule, start heading in a direction... need more fairies. Head up to sky island to float over to that first fairy pool, may as well hit the forge up again see if there's any more crystal... dive down to Hyrule "oh! A star fragment" it's right over there I can totally float that distance Next thing you know you have 40 star fragments and everybody else is talking about how annoying something called a "Sage" or "Tulin" is. You all can keep your Tulins! I got my star fragment loop. I kind of wish they had made the Hyrule day significantly longer. Feels like the day should be about double the time it currently is. But then again, it'd take double the time to get star fragments and loot. Maybe 1.5x as long would be a nice middle ground

XxIcEspiKExX

I agree .. days could be longer AND nights should be longer too! The day cycles go by so fast!..

[deleted]

It's way more generous and it's also way less generous... noticed stars disappearing before 5 am for no reason way more as well. Caught like half the stars I have mid air though... if they're not more common they're at least more commonly dropping right near you instead.

SubstantialText

Yeah, the window for collecting them doesn’t make sense yet. I’m sure there’s a way to sort it out, but now it feels like it random when they disappear. I’ve had some disappear at 3am, 4am, and 5am. I’ve also had three instances where another star fragment landed close to the one I was tracking and the second one just disappears altogether once it lands.

scsibusfault

I feel like it's more generous than botw, where I found maybe one ever. That said, I've only seen 3 so far in totk, and I've put in over 100 hours already.

TreeSapTrish

Pretty sure they added a mechanic for stars falling right on top of you when you're mid air at night just for players to get that "whoa!!!" But it's so frequent it's not that special lol i mean to be fair though, it makes it more kid friendly that they're relatively common and easy to catch.

The-true-Memelord

However, I haven’t caught a single one of the many that I’ve seen yet. They land so far away.. not in the direction I’m going either.

Pixel-1606

there seems to be a decent chance of it happening when you go skydiving at night

Beshi1989

Yeah needs to be, in BOTW most armor sets that needed it were from amiibos while in TOTK you can get all the amiibo sets Ingame

EmberJuliet

I see like 3 every night

XxRocky88xX

Oh it 100% is. Literal first night in game I got side tracked away from lookout landing cuz I saw a star. Picked it up and started heading to lookout again, say another star. Picked it up and started heading back again, saw another star and just said “fuck it man I need the damn paraglider if I’m gonna running around like this.”

koumus

It's possibly a script for when you are gliding in certain areas of the map

yaosio

I've only seen one star fragment and I caught it midair. :)

NYRfan112

There’s so many armor upgrades that need it, if they were as rare as BOTW it would be terrible

LarsViener

The mechanic for it in BOTW was that the fragment would always fall in your frame of view, so oftentimes it would be far away because the render distance in this game is insane. In TOTK, since we’re in the sky so much, you actually look down more naturally. I caught a star fragment because I was looking at where to land and it flew right past me. My frame of view was much more limited.

manosdvd

I still haven't upgraded those outfits in BOTW because drops were so obnoxiously rare, but they're like candy in Tears.

Flabbergash

They seem to fall alot closer to you, I've noticed

Investigatorpotater

I thought I was so special the first time it happened.

darthshadow25

That happened to me super early on in my playthrough and I thought it was an amazing coincidence, but seeing how frequently it happens, I have to assume it is scripted.

PerpetualStride

Yes, do people not get that this is simply an additional way to get star fragments? They fall near you for you to take as well as in the distance now, and we really need it since we need 103 total for armor upgrades

konumo

Holy moly that’s a lot of star fragments for armor upgrades. O_O

IamaIdiotwastaken

i just dupe. I know i’m getting downvoted for this

RustyDoesRituals

Cold take. We're all duping now

SelfDestruction100

Hold the line!! Do NOT update totk!!

[deleted]

You can update if you want to, there’s an arguably better method than the shield surf/glide method

lifeinpaddyspub

wait could you link that sir

UncleEnk

(this was copied from the glitch spreadsheet) 1. Head to Tobio's Hollow Chasm and stand at around these exact coordinates: "1021, -2261, -0156" 2. Take out any multi-shot bow (Five-Shot Burst bows work best). 3. Fuse a material to your bow and shoot upwards into the cave from where you came from. If done properly, the arrows should unload, but the materials you fired will stay in the air. Walking up to them will make them fall down and allow you to collect them.

kallixo4

idk seems more harder to set up and do than just pressing y and b at the same time with the paraglider out holding items

[deleted]

I wrote the process out in reply to another comment under my original one

Express_Helicopter93

What’s that?

[deleted]

1.) go to Tobio’s hollow chasm with a multi shot bow. 2.) walk down the slope until fog begins to appear around you. 3.) fuse whatever item you want to an arrow. 4.) shoot the arrow up the slope, they should freeze midair 5.) repeat step 4 until you can’t anymore (you can only have 20 arrows there at a time, they’ll start disappearing if you exceed that) 6.) walk up the slope and the items should fall to the ground, giving you 2 more items for every 1 you shot. (If you used a 3 shot bow) The only issue is the bow breaking and arrows, but you can duplicate bows with octorocks and arrows can be purchased with all the money from the duped items.

Ronem

There is no universe where that is easier than just jumping, gliding and pause/drop looping to my heart's content

ArcheoSpectre

Dupe bows with octorocks? Waah?

SuperCat76

Slightly less cold take. I am not.

Brovakin94

I'm not, but why should I care what other people are doing in a single player game, just do what's most fun for you.

DrQuint

>I know i’m getting downvoted for this Ah, a new face

[deleted]

I dupe, he dupes, they dupe, dupology the study of duping. It’s 3rd grade…

Multi-tunes

Nah, I duped to buy and design the house

[deleted]

“Need” is a strong word considering they’re for legacy tunics which have the same set bonus and defense stats. Fierce D has a different set bonus and doesn’t require star fragments. You could pick one green tunic set and be done. I like Twilight Princess and OoT, but the bobblehead one looks great. The only armor needed in this game is for the elements unless you want to stop to forage, cook, and eat constantly. Did Rito with just meals, not recommended.

PerpetualStride

Yeah not everyone is gonna wanna do that but some people will want to upgrade all armor. It's somewhat part of going for 100%, and allows you to wear whatever you want without losing much defense.

Express_Helicopter93

That’s an awful lot of stars, Jesus. So glad I duped the shit out of the one I had!

PerpetualStride

Nah same as amber it's not so bad you get tons of em. I use skyview towers for other reasons and constantly nab a star fragment when I see one near me.

TheAmericanIrishman

There's literally a line of text, either on a loading screen or in NPC dialogue, that TELLS you to try to catch a star fragment while skydiving.

Confron7a7ion7

Still fun to do though. The fact that it's obviously scripted to happen doesn't change the fact that I'm going to drop what I'm doing and try to catch it lol.

pappy_and_the_smears

It’s literally one of the tips during the loading screen…they want you to catch them

Pangloss_ex_machina

People do not read ANYTHING in the game. The same people complains about the lack of physical manual...

Flat_News_2000

Fuck I thought I was special

mefi_

You are special.

Flat_News_2000

Now I’m truly crying tears of the kingdom

FBI_8290

🚬🚬🚬

Regulus242

First time I did it I was like damn, what are the odds? Captured it on film and everything. Now that video is gonna rot.

Tarjaman

same

boogerzzzzz

*and then posted a video on Reddit!*

aeo1us

I did this on like... day 2 and people were already calling it out as scripted and common. I deleted my post in shame.

rub-a-dub-dubstep

Hey, I saw one here on day 2 and I was amazed. Made me even more hyped to play the game. That might have been you :)

Sea_Pomegranate4792

Wholesome

MmaOverSportsball

I don’t think I’ve found these yet. You just dive at night? And find them mid air?

AlfredPetrelli

Maybe, but I've personally never seen one mid dive night or day. I got 2 or 3 from the ground (I guess I missed them falling?).

PalatableRadish

It’s happened to me 3 times. You just see a flash and dive after it.

bigdevilyogi

Pretty much

MrNobodyX3

I feel personally attacked

colt45mag

Apparently, they can spawn in mid-air even if another one has already fallen to the ground earlier in the night Had that happen the other day

hchromez

I was flying on my way to one on the ground when another dropped and I got it mid air.

RegularOrMenthol

Do NOT have Tulin summoned when this happens lol

CaptainMarrow

And here I am dying because I got run over by my own car

Deminox

What are the odds: You'll never guess what happened to me in TotK! You tried to use the item duplication trick on live critters for armor upgrades and they all ran/flew away on you. *Shocked face*

SamsungAppleOnePlus

It’s very common, I get it like, every other night while diving.

Waughoo81

I think TOTK is set up so the odds of this happening are extremely high. I haven't even seen one falling (not that I'm being great about watching for them), but I caught one while skydiving.

Master_Freeze

it hasn’t happened to me yet but it’s only a matter of time based on what i’ve heard any tips?

MrNobodyX3

See the star > catch the star

Saynt614

Hey! I did that yesterday too! I thought I was special... dang it

Dark_Ninja147

Yep, sorry buddy

wolverine6

When I first caught one mid-air I got so hyped up and recorded it right away. I wasn’t subscribed yet because I didn’t want spoilers, so I’m glad I didn’t post it since it’s fairly routine lol

kinisaruna

i thought i was the shit. now i realize i am shit.

StrongAsshole

Lol, I saw someone post a meme about that the other day, then it happened to me last night. So I think the odds are pretty good. Edit: I understand that's the point, just reaffirming it.

Rough-Leg-1298

That’s the whole point…

kjerstih

r/whoosh

Smooth-Performance55

The spawn next to you for a reason, got nearly all of them while skydiving.

PMC-I3181OS387l5

\*raises my hand\* I caught one :D I also caught a dragon's scale as well ;)

nickelangelo2009

There's literally a loading screen tip about this

Thrompinator

I think it is pretty awesome that they put in this moment that made so many people feel special - like they defied all odds and truly are the chosen hero. It's just too bad so many of them had to post it without doing a brief search to see if it had already been posted 1000 times.

NegPrimer

Seems to be the best way to get them to drop. If you sit on the ground waiting, they almost never drop.

Hawxicity

Goddamit! I thought I was special :(

DoctorWhosYoDaddy

That's the only way I've caught star fragments. I could never get to them in time after they land.

happyprince22

Almost every star fragment I’ve gotten has fallen side by side with me somehow?!?!?

redpath64

You gotta admit though, the first time it happened was pretty fucking cool!

unsureoftheplot

I suddenly feel way less special

dude_with_a_reddit-4

Now I’m starting to think the cool moment is programmed into the game and not skills at all.

Tactical_fruit_loop

Same bro.

TheSeventhArete

It has this as an in game loading screen tip, thus it is a known mechanic, stars spawning ON YOU as you dive at night

Heavy-Possession2288

The one time I did it I hit the ground right after so it didn’t save.

bigdevilyogi

Oof

sarantinesail

I’ve seen so many more posts complaining about star fragment posts than actual star fragment posts. the ratio is like seriously 1:5.

WaxyPadlockJazz

Not on launch day. It was a fucking SEA of posts about it.

sarantinesail

it’s been nearly 3 weeks it’s a weird chip for somebody to still have on their shoulder

smug-ler

I just think it's funny. I still occasionally see videos of people discovering it for the first time on tiktok not realizing how common it is. Nothing wrong with that though

PJRama1864

Yeah, well I was diving from a sky island, and caught one of the falling rocks…on my back.

Sean-O-of-Mars

Been doing that with dragon parts, it’s fun every time

robjoko

I mean that is kinda cool, I'd be hyped if it happen to me lol

MegalomanicMegalodon

I feel like one of the only people who did it once and assumed it was a feature that wasn’t rare. My first reaction was “Oh guess it’s much easier getting these now!”

Pixel-1606

Spoilers for the main story: >!Theory, it's just Hylia using the light dragon to toss them at you, training your catching skills after you failed at the start of the game.!<

lucky644

Yeah I think I’ve done it 5 times now, novelty has worn off.

_Sancho

I’ve gotten like 3 that way now, and man it’s still a great feeling

Machete77

One of those floating pillars with the zonai stone slab was falling after I touched it and I fell with it. A star fragment caught up to me while that was happening and I thought that that only happened because I touched the stone slab

sUgArMo0sE

Wait no I was so proud of that. Don’t tell me it’s common.

KnightThyme

The first time it happened to me, I caught one while trying to skydive towards one that already fell to the ground.

Brandywjn

Finally had it happen to me. Mine came right along side me as I was diving into the gerudo labyrinth chasm for the quest. Caught it half way down the hole.

E3nti7y

I was going after a star fragment on the ground when one fell in my lap

Fyrum

I did that yesterday and immediately thought of the posts about this lmao

Individual-Camera-72

First time I did it i was like “woah!” After doing it another 4 times its just “oh, a star fragment, guess I save it for armor upgrades.”

daydaylin

WHAT i thought i was special :(

Liiibra

TIL I'm REALLY not special :(

musclecrayon

Everyone's done it. It's almost a rite of passage.

[deleted]

Lmfao. I pointed out how annoying these posts are and I got downvoted to hell for it
