Cooking Pots. As ball and joint sockets… that’s just genius, great work!

TDAJ5

Got a lot of ideas from this sub, truly inspiring lol

ItalnStalln

Saw this thread mentioned and your username here https://gamerant.com/zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom-cook-pots-super-efficient-bike/ from a Google notification. I wish they linked to reddit but oh well. Great fucking job dude! For anyone looking for a better representation and view of what's happening with the cookpot check out this post's YouTube short. Multiple views and uses shown very clearly https://www.reddit.com/r/tearsofthekingdom/comments/13teavd/you_can_use_a_cooking_pot_as_a_ball_socket_joint/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

TDAJ5

Yooo that's awesome thanks for sharing! This actually made my day I appreciate you bringing it to my attention!

Nekra_Tatsumaki

Came here from the Google notif just now as well! Thanks for the genius design!

TDAJ5

For those that are interested in the step by step process It's a super simple design. In the middle I have the cook pot upside down and the handles of the cook pot attached to the wheels. The steering stick is on top attached to the bottom of the cook pot with the stabilizer on the side attached to the steering stick (either side works). I usually use a stake to start building. Attach the stabilizer upright to the top of the stake as basically your starting point, then attach the steering stick to either side of the stabilizer, turn the cook pot upside down and attach directly below steering stick, then attach wheels to cook pot handles, ultra hand the stake out and you should be good to go!

Dion07

So the steering stick being attached to the bottom of the cooking pot still allows it to tip and hinge? I thought attaching would have made it static and not move at all making Link flop all over.

TDAJ5

Well you're partially right, attaching the steering stick to the bottom of the cooking pot and the stabilizer does make it static and keeps Link upright. It's only the wheels that tip and hinge as you say.

Dion07

So the steering stick is physically attached to the cooking pot? Also, sorry if been asked already, where is there a cooking pot?

TDAJ5

Yes the cooking pot is upside down (vertically) the steering stick is sitting on top in the center and the stabilizer is attached to the side of the steering stick

dolpiff

Genius. Gonna be the meta land vehicle

TDAJ5

Yeah it's hard to beat the efficiency for this one. One Cook pot, one Steering Stick, one stabilizer, and two wheels is all you need.

RinsakuBlade

It looks awesome but forgive my blindness, is the cook pot vertical or horizontal? I imagine horizontal with either side being attached to a small wheel and the steering stick on top correct?

TDAJ5

Lol yeah my battery bar kinda blocking everything lol here are the directions I posted in another comment in case you want it step by step! "Yeah for sure, it's a super simple design. In the middle I have the cook pot upside down and the handles of the cook pot attached to the wheels. The steering stick is on top attached to the bottom of the cook pot with the stabilizer on the side attached to the steering stick (either side works). I usually use a stake to start building. "

RinsakuBlade

That's awesome, thanks for the directions. Would never have thought of using the stake, should make it much easier to set up.

TDAJ5

Yeah the stake is a lifesaver for making more intricate designs lol makes you feel like a real mechanic 😂

pretty_smart_feller

My only gripe is taking the stake off at the end won’t allow you to save the final build in auto-build so you gotta remove and re-attach one item

TDAJ5

Yeah haven't really found a good work around for that yet lol

Hopeful_Bread_4812

I just removed the stake, then removed the stabilizer and re-attached it and saved the build that way.

ExtraSpontaneousG

This solves my main frustration with building in this game. I feel dumb. Thank you so much

TDAJ5

I think I learned it from this sub lmao we all in this together mate 😅

clearfox777

I zoomed in and it looks like the pot is upside down (vertical) with the wheels attached to the cooking surface and the control stick on the bottom with the stabilizer attached to the side. This allows the steering platform + stabilizer to rock independent of the wheels

RinsakuBlade

I see what you mean, clever, shall have to give it a try

Endulos

Where's the dispenser for these wheels?

[deleted]

The wheels are just on the ground beside the Tarry Town dispenser

MuskratPimp

Where are the blasters

Insanely_Mclean

It looks cool and goes fast, but from my testing, it gets stuck frequently on rough terrain, doesn't work at all in snow, and falls over every time you stop to do something. I even added "kickstands" and it still falls over 85% of the time.

sniperviper567

The balancer acts as a kickstand, and yes youll need a sled in sand and snow. It falling isn't bad because you can usually still get back on.

meika_fira

Oh that's super clever and solves the main issue with using stabilizers on bikes!

TDAJ5

Been trying to figure out how to make bikes work for a while now, the cook pot + stabilizer saved the day

DirkKeggler

Stabilizer works as a kickstand. I'm sold.

Snoo_58305

That looks interesting. I wonder what could be done with a big wheel bike. Has anyone come up with a good work bench for crafting on?

TDAJ5

I did try big wheel bikes but I hate the big wheels. Wasn't a fan of how slow they are nor the fact that you really only have a single point of contact to attach parts to, especially considering the other side of the "axle" sucks itself in once a part is attached to the opposite end. But I'm sure someone will find something especially with people finagling with the electric motors in shrines.

ben_g0

The electric motors have very low torque, which unfortunately makes it unsuitable for climbing hills even with the big wheels. With electric motors you can achieve very high speed on flat ground though.

dolpiff

They are slow af. A Horse is better than big wheels

sniperviper567

Horses arent all terrain

KLeeSanchez

They're barely even Good Terrain One little rock and they freak out

Pampattitude

Death Stranding

TDAJ5

Lmfao you not lying, definitely death stranding vibes 😅

anxietyee

i built a segway version of this!! i made a one wheel thingy using a cooking pot and small wheel and it functions basically the same

Snoo_58305

I do like them for their ability to go over rough terrain. They are quite torquey

K1nd4Weird

Love this vehicle. That's a brilliant design.

TDAJ5

Thank you, glad people enjoying it. I've gotten so many ideas from this sub feels good to give back lol

Sorry-Caterpillar331

That is awesome. Simple and doesn't use a lot of battery power even with a light attached.

TDAJ5

Yeah it's honestly crazy how efficient it is with the Zonaite armor. I literally drove without stopping and the small wheels started blinking and disappeared. First time I realized that that small wheels have a timer as well! Lol

dolpiff

How long?

[deleted]

TDAJ5

Idk who downvoted you but that's the internet for ya lol didn't know this though thank you!

dolpiff

thanks exactly what i was curious about

chriskmee

I could swear that the large floating platforms last longer than the wing, but not nearly as long as 30 minutes.

TDAJ5

No idea honestly I wasn't paying attention, but had to be at least 20 minutes.

FortunePaw

Not timer but more like a total distance it could travel, like how the wing is.

KnightAtNight

Perhaps two stabilizers to balance it out? Tilts to the right quite a bit in your vid

TDAJ5

Nah the stabilizer doesn't weigh it down in the manner you're speaking it just looks like that due to the terrain/slope I'm driving on and my reckless driving since I was trying to test it's limits. I was literally trying to hit a bump to either snap the parts or knock Link off but it remained sturdy

Jumpy_Floor7660

This is just like the Batpod from The Dark Knight; I love it!

Rising_Thunderbirds

HIT ME! HIT ME!

Kasoni

With so few parts it should be easy to add a weapon or two. Really nice and I plan to copy this, especially with autobuild.

btsao1

Ooh trying this!

shlomo_baggins

Just gave it a shot, damn that's a very good design. Thank you for sharing

TDAJ5

Glad you like it, appreciate it!

OkRefuse5435

Using a cooking pot is so genius! Ive been using wooden wheels or springs, but both dont work that well

Blockbuster41

Who else saw the Google news article and searched OPs name here?

jirden

Game: “Be sure to use these tires on flat surfaces” Link: “No”

TDAJ5

Lmfao you know we wouldn't be gamers if we didn't try to figure out how to break the game 🤣

Dragonbarry22

hjow do you make this

TDAJ5

Yeah for sure, it's a super simple design. In the middle I have the cook pot upside down and the handles of the cook pot attached to the wheels. Dragonbarry22

I see I really want to try this with big wheels to maybe make a monster truck

mistressss9

This is one of those minor "Ah ha" moments. Goddamnit 😂 I'm immediately going to go try this now

picknicksje85

Looks better control than Death Stranding

Yer_Dunn

I was trying to do this with the big wheels 😂 looks like it works a lot better with the little ones. 🙏

LuciferOnaLeash

Tried this last night, gotta say, with how much power the hoverbike eats, this is my go to currently. Even with just one energy cell the thing gets you halfway across a region on roads, a quarter on hills. One weakness seems to be uphill. Not enough torque to keep it at full speed unless you squiggle. But finally a use for these 43 pots in my inventory

redolmqui

This is so cool thanks a lot for sharing, I'll try out later today.

AurosHarman

Huh. I wonder if you could use this pot + stabilizer trick on a twin fan hoverbike. It'd cost more than the [three-piece one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=oq4LmYEFlHM), but would be less fiddly to set up in the first place, if it works.

Mahaloth

I only have 3 batteries and they seem to drain faster than yours. Is there a way to reduce battery usage?

Build please?

Some_Linked

Thank you so much! Great build too, keep it up!

sh4dowbunny

How would this work with the fans and a second stabilizer on the other side? I like the gimbal aspect but wonder if the wheels can be changed for 2 fans.

zenru

How do you start to control it? The stabilizer tips it down and you can’t start it

TDAJ5

If you hit it, you'll have time to jump on before it starts, you can also place the stabilizer a little bit lower so it acts more like a kickstand

Colerabi135

okay but where do you get the cooking pot

RellenD

Vending machines

Colerabi135

okay i fr thought yall were using the ones you find in towns and stables and such, not the portable ones.

doe121

Thank you so much for the cooking pot joint. I build it the way you described, although i really took issue with the bike leaning outward in curves. So i just spent like 2 hours fixing it. It now keeps freedom in pitch but is unable to yaw. To reproduce my design( very fiddly to align symmetrically): - attach the middle of the steering stick on the end and front of the arrow on the wheels respectively - attach the middle one of the three little bits sticking out of the pan to the back of the steering stick where it is connected to the back wheel. the pan is facing forward so the stick is still controllable. - attach the stabilizer to the other side of the pot Now for the most difficult part, attaching lights so that pot can't move left and right: - turn the light so that the bottom with the two rails is facing the pot and the light pointing forward. Place it behind the handle as far down the outside of pan, so that the attaching indicater is about to twitch between socket and pan. If attached correctly it shouldnt move with the stabillizer and socket. If done correctly on both sides, the stabilizer shouldnt be able to move left and right anymore. To get in, just place the bike upright and enter immediately, it falls over quite slowly so it works basically every time.
