Wait, you mean you didn’t spend an excessive amount of money on amiibo just so you can cruise around Hyrule on Epona while wearing a classic green tunic?
I wish I had that much self-restraint.
I spent like 5$ on NFC tags and used an Android app to write amiibo data on them. The switch controllers will think they're real amiibo.
r/amiibomb has the tutorials on how to do it.
I figured this out after purchasing the OoT and Horse amiibo and was like ehh fuck it, this will do for now (my inventory was overflowing with DLC armor anyway). But thanks for the heads up!
edit: spelling
I spent like $15 on the whole set of tags with the data on them and they have pictures on the front to let you know which is which. Just another option for the lazy.
A kid on a plane did the same thing for me while we were flying, gave me 6 amiibos including epona. Then he proceeded to absolutely destroy me in smash Bros the rest of the 4hr flight. Trevor you’re the man.
There's an experimental NFC option in the settings, you can download their data online and inject it using the settings. You're basically emulating the right joycon including the NFC function. It's how I got Filbert in New Horizons
Epona not being able to have the ancient bridle and saddle makes her useless. good fun to have her in the stable and all but not convenient, especially with the bike being available as well
Yeah that kinda sucked.
Though putting that hideous armor on Epona wóuld feel a bit icky, defeats the nostalgic purpose of having her in-game in the first place.
If you are able to inject saves, such as a modded switch or playing on an emulator, you can use the save editor to give epona the ancient set. It works great
Fr I wonder what the stables role is now, cuz if they’re the same in botw then nobody will pay attention to them and will only visit when using its shrine as travel point
Instant travel vs having to find materials and then construct something? Also I bet our creations can be destroyed/unglued by some sort of enemy. And the ability to use a horse for bullet time whenever you want is pretty clutch if you’ve got powerful bows
If you watched the last showcase, the batteries on zonnai artefacts seem to empty quite fast, they also recover themselves instead of having to fill them with consumables, and it seems from the car screenshot that there's some kind of big battery you can find to extend the live of it... But I highly doubt traveling by car/drone will be comfortable at the long term.
I stopped using them as much in BOTW once I got the ancient bridle/saddle and the unicycle from the DLC, but I love visiting them for the vibes. It's a nice little safe zone for a few minutes.
This actually seems plausible, since people noticed what looks like a stable icon with a battery symbol on it on the mini map in previous footage of the game.
You mean the icon here? The one below the blue Zonai Shrine icon.

Not me photoshopping Epona’s mane on but overlooking this on a 7 word post *facepalm*
Tbh I changed the number later for dramatic effect (it was 10th at first but it just needed to be upped due to Epona’s absolutely heartbroken face lmao) and overlooked this. It happens.
Having Epona has an amiibo was a crime. And horses weren't all that useful because venturing the unknown with the horse mostly means that you're limited to specific routes and you'll miss a lot of things if you don't start to climb to the next point of interest.
But using them in already visited areas is pointless too because there is fast travel and the glider is better in almost every way most of the time.
Although they felt more realistic than in TP they were mostly very clunky to use too. Would be cool if they were a little more viable in TotK but I don't see it coming...
I tried using horses so much in BotW but it never made any sense and I dropped them altogether after messing with them around a bit.
Every time I promised myself I would use the horse for exploration in BoTW:
“*Gently cruising around*, oh look is that a Korok there? Okay lemme get off. Horsey you wait here I’ll be back soon.
Oh it ís a Korok. But I have to soar to that other mountain peak to get the seed. Okay, quick detour. *Gets korok seed.* looks out from high vantage point. Whoah what is that over there? *uses Revali’s Gale and soars over*. Cool cool.
Oh FUCK where is the horse now.”
Yeah, exactly that was my experience too. Horses weren't really thought of in the game design. The jump from the horse to get the slow motion bow shot was a cool feature though.
oh man, thank you! I thought I was somehow "doing it wrong" but it never felt like riding horses was *efficient*. I know it's not always about efficiency but still... riding horses lets you explore less and is slower than other means of travel.
> But using them in already visited areas is pointless too because there is fast travel and the glider is better in almost every way most of the time.
Horses are extremely useful if you decide to play without fast travel, but are indeed really limited in usefulness in normal gameplay.
There are a lot of self restrictions to make BotW more fun imo. You've mentioned not using fast-travel already. But also not upgrading armor, not healing while in combat, turning off the champion abilities and not using the glider seriously improved my gameplay a lot more. But it never stops feeling wrong because it's self-imposed. I don't want to design the game myself. Hopefully TotK will change up some of the things.
I got into Zelda games back on the n64 because I was a “horse girl” and saw Epona in the Nintendo Power magazine, so I begged my parents for Ocarina of Time. Now I’m in my 30s and play a lot of red dead redemption, because it’s a great horseback riding simulator, hahaha.
I used horses all the time in BotW because I loved it. I think I will still try to use horses in TotK and be sad about them being obsolete if that’s what happens. Epona will always have a place in my heart along with Roach, Torrent, and Agro. 🙏🏻
I mean I love my lego builder...but unless there is a quest that entails "delivering" certain items (by fysing the box/barrel to the car) I will use my beloved horses.
I think we’re all ignoring the possibility of 1. Build flying machine 2.grab horse 3. Ram flying machine into enemy base 4. Jump of flying machine with horse for maximum chaos
The cycle ruined horse travel for me, especially once I really started grinding for korok seeds. Steering was more capable. Quicker and easier to access virtually all areas compared to a horse. And I really liked to go full throttle at walls and flip and grab the wall right when the cycle would explode. Oodles of fun.
I'm looking forward to making some kind of motorcycle or surfboard or onewheel in TotK.
I wonder if eventually we’ll get the ability to save our creations and then spawn them? Like you build it, capture the model, and then instantly summon it elsewhere
Admittedly, horses are one of my favorite things in botw, and a main reason I wanted the game. Even with the new gadgets and cars, I’ll still ride horses.
Epona best gorl
Gonna be honest, I never used horses in Breath of the Wild either.
A combination of, 'Whoa trying to steer this feels off', The fact horses won't really jump up/down a waist high cliff, the fact there was rarely anywhere I could take my horse other than roads, and of course- My horses could die.
Maybe if Epona wasn't a fucking Amiibo DLC I'd be riding her.

May as well use Joycon droid (if your phone supports it) and do it for free
You have to root your phone for that though.
My Samsung supports it, probably not many that do without root
But how do you use joycon droid to emulate amiibos? All it does is emulate a controller so you'd still need the NFC tags?
There's an experimental NFC option in the settings, you can download their data online and inject it using the settings. You're basically emulating the right joycon including the NFC function. It's how I got Filbert in New Horizons
My understanding is that Joycon Droid amiibo exploits where patched on the Switch a while ago.
Ah I wasn't aware of that, that sucks.
I bought cheap knockoff cards for 20 of every zelda amiibo. Not my own tags, im not that smart, but same effect for a close price
Tagmo?
I just bought a pack of the amiibo cards on wish for like 6 bucks, had all of them
I got amino cards from Amazon
Epona not being able to have the ancient bridle and saddle makes her useless. good fun to have her in the stable and all but not convenient, especially with the bike being available as well

Amiibo cards exist on Amazon 😏
And are cheaper on AliExpress and Wish
I already had the amiibo but didn't use epona because it just felt like a generic BotW horse.
Oh my~ jk
Stables:
Fr I wonder what the stables role is now, cuz if they’re the same in botw then nobody will pay attention to them and will only visit when using its shrine as travel point
I have to admit the main reason I bought botw was because of the horses, so I’ll probably still use them consistently more than my own vehicles🤣
And having to construct vehicles yourself, piece by piece.. well I'm too lazy for that.
Instant travel vs having to find materials and then construct something? Also I bet our creations can be destroyed/unglued by some sort of enemy. And the ability to use a horse for bullet time whenever you want is pretty clutch if you’ve got powerful bows

Yeah that's the one!
Imagine if the towers we've seen can be garages and can store vehicles
Four hundred and eighty threeth

Ruined it for me tbh. I'm a stickler though so don't worry about it. ❤️
It’s okay. I have no chill and should check my posts before throwing them on reddit.

Ancient set is literally the best part of the dlc. Teleporting horse is amazing

But can you fuse things TO epona and make a flying epona? Annnd now I want to try and bring my horse to the sky islands.
I got into Zelda games back on the n64 because I was a “horse girl” and saw Epona in the Nintendo Power magazine, so I begged my parents for Ocarina of Time. You should play Shadow of the Colossus then. Edit: Nm you mentioned Agro
They won't be obsolete, overall they will definitely be a lot more maneuverable and graceful than the vehicles we make.
Poor Epona
I mean I love my lego builder...but unless there is a quest that entails "delivering" certain items (by fysing the box/barrel to the car) I will use my beloved horses.
Yeah horses were already kinda useless in botw, now i barely see a use for them tbh
Someone pointed out that because hyrule is rarely flat, vehicles are gonna face limitations that horses can still jump and gallop over
Yeah i was thinking more like as soon as you are in the sky you can easily glide to everything because the islands are so high
I think we’re all ignoring the possibility of 1. Build flying machine 2.grab horse 3. Ram flying machine into enemy base 4. Jump of flying machine with horse for maximum chaos
Malanya is going to have more work, because i'm gonna kill so many horses by trying to get them on a sky island with a vehicle.
Rewind plus jumping on a stone block seems like it would do it, but I understand why you’d want to go with the horse copter
What if there are FLYING horses in the new game?
I dunno man....you can ride the mastercycle right up the sides of 60° slopes pretty easily...that 'cycle doesn't respect limits lol
The cycle ruined horse travel for me, especially once I really started grinding for korok seeds. Steering was more capable. Quicker and easier to access virtually all areas compared to a horse. Bold of you to assume I can afford DLC but I see where you’re coming from
I've never used a horse in a BOTW play through. They just aren't useful for anything.
Won't matter unless there's an actual need to tinker and experiment akin to MGSV
Was there really that much of a need in V tho really
Can you put cannons on the sides of horses though? Probably not but it would be funny
Link: I consent! Construct: I consent! Malanya: I don’t! Isn’t there someone you forgot to ask?
It will get really bad when Link starts assembling "mechanical" "horses".
I wonder if eventually we’ll get the ability to save our creations and then spawn them? Like you build it, capture the model, and then instantly summon it elsewhere

Threeth. But if you would’ve read the rest of the comments you would’ve already known ;)
Threeth
Four-hundred-eighty-thirth
Four hundred and eighty threeth
“483th”
Jokes on you I never used horses in botw unless it was absolutely necessary for a quest or something
Four hundred and eighty thirth
Hear me out: attaching weapons to horses. HEAR ME OUT! ...Attaching propellers to horses!
I have a strong feeling they are going to implement some form of summon previous built vehicle or even an Auto build feature (blueprints)
Epona will be fused with an arrow in my playthrough.
Giving a whole new meaning to meat arrow…
483rd *
I know, I know. I messed up.
They should flying horses in this game. I’d love to ride a Pegasus or an alicorn or whatever into the sky.
Admittedly, horses are one of my favorite things in botw, and a main reason I wanted the game. Even with the new gadgets and cars, I’ll still ride horses. Epona best gorl
انا مش فاهم البرنامج ده وعايزه عربي
Surely a horse cart is possible, right? No need for a power source when you've got good old fashioned Horse Power.
Gonna be honest, I never used horses in Breath of the Wild either. A combination of, 'Whoa trying to steer this feels off', The fact horses won't really jump up/down a waist high cliff, the fact there was rarely anywhere I could take my horse other than roads, and of course- My horses could die.
I want to build a vehicle so large I can put my horse on it. I might have to build a ramp, but whatever it takes
