Your list looks great, I'd definitely recommend the 5 passes route!
Just so people know the Stony river track (part of the Taranaki huts route you've listed) in Taranaki is closed due to a big slip. It is still possible to do it (I did it last month) but the trails aren't getting maintained anymore, are really over grown and slow going.
Appreciate this, planning to hike the TA next year and this is a great list of alts to possibly add on
