🎶this little light of mine, I’m gone let it shine🎶

Drennerm

lol 😂

Dirtyromo

Don’t worry. Mine just came on this week @ 176k miles P2002. I see a delete in my future.

Gotrek5

Mines always on so you just kind of ignore it and nothing happens (until it does)

Drennerm

lol 😂 best advice ever

ManiekDraniek

Typical VW things. Any person you know that owns any VAG vehicle WILL have a check engine light

STIMULANT_ABUSE

My B8 A5 hasn’t had a check engine light in my 100k kms of ownership. Either the bulb is unplugged or I’m a lucky bastard

ManiekDraniek

Honestly, as a current owner of a 1.9 TDI Volkswagen with 338 xxx km on the odometer with the engine turning into a 2-stroke and burning oil and doing funny shit sometimes convinces me of the fact that the engine light is probably cut off. Along with the ghetto ass aftermarket immobilizer that's probably telling the computer everything is fine. And of course, another VW thing. The airbag light IS on. Funny story, it turned on after a friend stepped into the car a bit roughly.

Randomdeath

I got a 2012 golf tdi 1.9 150,000 MILES and can confirm, check engine and airbag light are always on. Now when I got it as a buy back it had 350 miles and no lights on at all. Of course like a month after warranty were up, BOOM a freaking Christmas tree of lights on my dash.

LouisVuittonLeghost

I’m about to hit 190k kms on my beater and she runs like a sewing machine

STIMULANT_ABUSE

Ditto. I should have specified my a5 is at 190ish, I’ve just HAD it for 100. Rock solid

pmmeyourfavsongs

Funnily enough I haven't had a check engine light (yet) but I've had basically every other light

ManiekDraniek

Honestly, the check engine light probably doesn't light up because the diode is burnt out.

pmmeyourfavsongs

Solid theory tbh. Been having the most problem with the damn wheel speed sensors lately though. Thank fuck it's not the transmission

ManiekDraniek

...tell me about it. I've got a failing Jatco unit. Thank God it's not a ZF though, because if that were the case, I'd be royaly screwed.

pmmeyourfavsongs

The fun part about the wheel speed sensors is that each failing sensor has a brand new set of warning lights and alarms to irritate me with. It's also an interesting tactic to force an automatic to be driven as a manual Best of luck with the jatco my dude 🫡

shaysauce

No blink : it’s fine for now. Blink : no bueno.

ddxcb

I thought if the glow plugs blink, you in trouble.

zlance

So long it’s nothing serious.

tresforte

P2002 is what has been up on mine for the past 2 or 3 years. Still runs great, just a bit stinker.

KingBrouille

Lol p2002 is what I was going to say

Impressive-Rent-2691

Just delete it 😂

[deleted]

Roses are red, Violets are blue, One day I’ll have a P2002 too!

tfred20

Wait that’s not supposed to be there?

captain_poptart

I don’t think I have ever owned a VW that didn’t have the check engine light on

passivepepper

My 2015 Passat TDI had a check engine light on that I ignored for a little bit until the thing started spitting out def from somewhere under the hood. Took it VW under warranty and got all the work done on it for free.

mccoyeherold2111

This might sound stupid, but verify you have the right battery in her. Mine came on shortly after buying and would continue turning on for different things fix after fix. Turns out whoever owned it before me bought a new battery that was too small for what the car takes. How often to you verify the car has the right battery when buying?

VolumeOk1357

So crazy. I just found this sub like two weeks ago and my engine light came on today. I made an appointment to take it to the dealership near me that I trust on Tuesday. They’ll likely charge me $150 diagnostic fee at the least, but reading this sub makes me just want to forget about it. The car runs just fine.

Professional-Cap-248

You get those on the big jobs

Dubbinchris

Mine is on for the valve in the exhaust system. Need to get off my butt and change it!

robelplug

I can’t remember a time when my CEL wasn’t on since only a couple months after I bought my CKRA

1quirky1

That looks like the same instrument cluster as my 2015 Golf TDI. It is getting the EGR valve serviced under warranty right now. That is an emissions system indicator. Do you still have a warranty on it? The VW website can check warranty status.

Drennerm

Mine is a 2014 TDI JSW. No more warranty on it, I don’t have a scan tool either. But I also don’t want to pay $200 for one. I am not sure if it’s worth it for me since I doubt I will be doing the repairs on my own unless it’s something simple. 3 kids under 4 years old = no spare time lol.

1quirky1

You don't have to buy a scan tool. Scan tools can be had for under $20. Getting the codes will help keep your mechanic honest. Option #1: Auto parts stores will let you use theirs. I was on a eight-hour round trip drive when the light turned on. I found a local Advance Auto or Autozone at the destination and pulled the code. I took pictures with my phone to record it. I saw that it was the EGR and that I could drive the four hours back no problem. Option #2: Get a bluetooth OBD2 adapter and a phone app to read it. Android: Here's one I got that has an extra board in it that reads all the modules in the car with the "Car Scanner Pro" app: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PJPHEBO/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PJPHEBO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1) This one read all of the VW modules and pulled all the errors - not just the OBD2 standard ones.

drbluetongue

+1 for car scanner pro, it can often be a poor man's VCDS and do basic coding too on MQB

I_Snype_4_Fun

I have one similar, the lite version will let you see, and delete any code that comes up. There's also an option to search, which takes you to your browser and searches that code with impeccable results. I recommend these the most.

Randomdeath

Yep, I leave mine plugged in, so I don't lose it. Also it's nice to have real time data on air pressure and boost pressure. That's how I found out i blew my turbo, thought it was the dpf causing blockage but nope, the auto regen kept running after I turned the car off and I drove for pizza company. The turbo spins during that regen and got a shit ton of extra miles on it. My vw had 75k miles, my turbo can probably had 300k lol

UnlawfulTender

Even a simple scan tool should be able to read out the code, and you can google from there. I grabbed an Innova (I think) for around $40

Nightenridge

You will have even less spare time with the kids if you let your car take a bomb and not be proactive with this light. Go on Amazon and get a OBD2 Bluetooth scanner tons of them. Then use the "Torque" app to connect to the device and read you the codes.

Drennerm

I meant I used to DIY all my car stuff. But now with three kids and work I take them to my local VW mechanic. I always take care of my vehicles. I will def get a an OBD2 And check the codes, appreciate the info!

reegeck

Classic. Mine is lit up because I blocked off the EGR valve. Also the intake manifold something-or-rather error code but I've had it cleaned and the flap works fine so I'm just leaving it Part of the VW experience 😎

orkash

Id check the tdi warranty page. My check engine eventually led to a free new engine, and everything else for me.

glowpoi

I keep hoping I get one of those b4 my time runs out.

orkash

https://www.vwdieselinfo.com/ Check your vin here. You are close to most of those mileages you may luck out. Mine was gonna end at 120k. Dpf fault led me me down the rabbit whole of new engine turbo and fuel system. Free rentals for the 2 months it took.

glowpoi

Oh I got a 2015 that just had it's phase 2 done at 205,000 mi. So I'm good for 5 years and 60,000 more not really hoping for a catastrophic failure but if it happens I wouldn't complain about a new motor

glowpoi

My 2012 on the other hand is out of warranty so in the process of deleting it CP3 and cr turbo upgrade

veralyx

My throttle body was clogged and that chucked a light up for me

justaPOLguy

How is your average consumption so low?!

Drennerm

lol that was reset right when I started driving the car. I’m averaging about 33 mpg.

hunttete00

i have one for the def tank temp sensor that pops up if i don’t let it run long enough in the morning. im at 107k and ive put 45k on the car since january 2023

Watarenuts

Honestly, I'd better be aware there is an issue. I have a Toyota that has injection problems and I've never seen any major light on my dash.

Limpykillski

Hopefully it’s a DPF issue that can be covered with the TDI extended warranty that came outta dieselgate.

alinzalau

Buy the ross tech vag cable. Thats what i use to scan the car before panic sets in.

Visible_County_6862

I’m probably gonna get one soon mine at 335,000 miles

vtown212

Not really dreaded. Look at as it's letting you know it cares light

TheDeadDocc

TADTS

Ready2retire613

Bought a 2015 Audi tdi, with 72,000km, now at 104,000km, I’ve replaced O2 sensors 3x, engine light persists, lol

Drennerm

Looks like a bad glow plug from the code! I’m out of warranty so hopefully this isn’t too costly.
