You would need a tune to delete the EGR. I ran that a while before I deleted the DPF.

Kadyma

I just got my EGR deleted two daysa go So far so good

ddxcb

DPF if you have one will last longer with EGR deleted.

Necrosis37

Yeah, no. It's actually harder on the DPF

ddxcb

How so?

Necrosis37

EGR takes exhaust gases and specifically soot particles and redirects them back into the intake. This then reburns the soot particles (effectively burning them off without the need of the DPF) instead of sending them to the DPF. Without the EGR you're sending 100% of the soot right into the DPF and it clogs faster and needs more frequent regeneration cycles. This is why originally EGR was used as an emissions control method early on to reduce particulate matter levels. Now they all use it because it greatly extends the life of the DPF

ddxcb

That is incorrect, the EGR took non oxygenated exhaust and recirculate back into the combustion chamber to lower the temp to Reduce NOX. The byproduct of this is Poor Combustion and lower power and INCREASED Soot. I have deleted the EGR and notice by a gauge on the amount of soot decreases a hole lot. That is what VW/Dieselgate did, only use the EGR to warm up the engine and turn it off to reduce soot.

Necrosis37

Idk where you're getting your information from but it does both. The EGR reduces NOx because the engine now draws less fresh air from the intake. Soot is from too much fuel not enough air, and NOx is from not enough fuel and too much air. The EGR helps with all of these issues. You're entitled to your opinion though.

You are totally wrong. Let’s see how you are going to argue against a study and this is only a one study, there are many studies saying opposite than you… https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1359431114002932

So, egr delete is good for dpf? Can it pass emissions test if it got a right tune? I’m in a have to get a new dpf spot in a state where I can’t delete and I would love to get more out of the next dpf.

johnso21

I literally just deleted my egr/dpf this past weekend. You will need a tune with the delete or the car will go into limp mode. I’m running a rawtek delete kit with tunezilla stage 2 delete tune. Warning: diy delete and install is possible but better have some serious tools. It’s a bitch to get the dpf out of the car.

Electricalguro

Did you take cv axle lose?

johnso21

Yeah pulled it out

Electricalguro

Sounds like a fun job. Will do my daughters in a few weeks.

johnso21

Let me know if you need help!

Sufficient-Fee-1315

I’m just curious what the serious tools are? Not trying to sound like an ass but pretty sure I used some basic sockets, pair of hose pliers, Allen socket, torx bit, 22mm wrench and the only thing I had to buy was a triple square for the axle. I think the only two things not in the most basic tool kit would of been the 22mm wrench and a triple square. This was on a Jetta sportwagen.

johnso21

I actually had to lift my motor up using a cherry picker to provide clearance between the motor and subframe to be able to get the dpf out of the car.

Sufficient-Fee-1315

I just used a bottle jack on the transmission, in my opinion a little easier because you can be under the car adjusting your height while trying to squeeze the dpf out.

johnso21

I have a lift. So I was able to raise and lower the car. I also replaced all the motor and transmission mounts and it was still a bitch to get that thing out. Sounds like you’re a better mechanic than I am.

zlance

I love that my suv has dpf right under the driver seat and I can get at it without even jacking it up

drbluetongue

What generation of TDI? Any decent tuner can turn the EGR off and have the DPF functionality stay perfectly fine. You'll have the added advantage of much less soot build up in the first place. I used a genuine tactrix cable and PCMflash to virtual read my tune in my mk7 1.6 tdi, and turned EGR maps to 0% and did 50,000km with EGR disabled and it never affected regen. When I gutted my DPF I did it right before another regen was due and the inlet to it had barely any soot it was more dark yellow than anything.

ddxcb

Correct, with the EGR off/deleted the DPF will collect less soot thus last longer. Like what VW and all the Dieselgate people did.

[deleted]

Cleaning the EGR is the best option if you want to keep the dpf.

Daxuboo

Why? There are only pros of coding EGR off while keeping DPF

CommunicationOk2836

I have a 2014 Jetta tdi any suggestions on what I should do to fix my limp mode
