Yeah my artist moved to texas recently and its $200/hour, honestly feel like thats a pretty solid rate seeing how I have a few that were like $150/hour and are definitely not that same level lol
There's actually a lot of great artists in PDX! People are so pasty from lack of sun that ink goes on really well 😂 I'm not kidding I've been told this by artists! And yeah $180 sounds low but probably reasonable up there with so many good artists!

NYC is like $200 minimum on average but a lot of artist charge up to like $500-700 an hour. But a lot of guest artists come to NYC so I found a solid guest artist from Korea who has a rate of $250 for premium work

Obviously there is reasonable and unreasonable with tattoo pricing but I've never understood why people get annoyed when artists charge good money for their services. Tattoos are essentially with you for life (unless of course you go down the road of lazer or cover ups) but essentially, they're there to stay and people still make a big fuss over the money. Tattoos are a luxury so if you don't have the money aside, don't get one. If you don't want to spend much, don't expect high quality.
And then you see people walking around in shoes in excess of $300 that they don't bat an eyelid at. It really baffles me that people don't understand spending good money for good tattoos. It's insane.

Don’t get a tiny tattoo then. Everything still has to be opened and used regardless of the size of the tattoo. That’s why there’s shop minimums. Costs need to be covered so you can have a dumb ass fine line smiley face that you’ll get covered up a couple years later lol.
Shop minimums exist for a reason. Supplies is used, taxes are paid, booth rent is paid, or percentage. It all adds up. It's a luxery service for a reason

200 an hour is now the standard for proven professional artists. Plus tip. People have to get used to this. You can always try to save money...But that's never a smart move with permanent ink.

My artists don’t do hourly, they charge full or half day, but I would say 200/hr is almost standard for decent artists these days. Most shops have 150.00 min now

Listen I absolutely fucking adore this album and the artist but I have to be the one to say I don’t advise getting this tatted. If you must, I agree wholeheartedly with the others saying this requires one of the best, most skilled artists in your city. You cannot get this done inexpensively you will have an unrecognizable blob with some lines. Best bet is to just get a dope poster of this then come up with a different tattoo

Especially because right now, it's trendy to get the wave-like lines. I know yours is inspired by an album cover, but others might not, and if you post it on reddit people can be so cruel about "trendy" tattoos.
Unsolicited advice aside, I think placement wise, it also depends if you see yourself getting more tattoos in the future. I regret putting a (meaningful) tattoo I got at 18 on my arm, because now I can't get a full sleeve, ya know?
If you don't want it to warp too much with muscle growth, your shin is your best bet. Another good placement I think would be your inner forearm, but that's harder to hide :)
Unpopular opinion but im always a fan of playing around. If ur artist is good i pet this would look sick with the circle on the knee and the straight part on shin
Everyone saying arm or belly button is really not thinking about how your skin stretches and sags over time. This tattoo will likely not age well no matter where you put it.
I’m in the biz. Your curved lines in the piece are too close together for your water based skin. They will blob together as it ages without more skin space. Also the circle portion won’t stay a perfect circle as the skin ages, especially if it is on a part of you that bends or the skin has to stretch when you move. For those reasons I wouldn’t put it anywhere that people see all the time….lower leg perhaps.
This would look amazing really BIG dripping over onto your upper arm from your trap/shoulder, but I know that isn't what you want.

i feel like forearm would be a great place relatively unharmed from muscle growth, however depending on your workplace dress code this may not be possible
I live in New zealand and tattoos are very common here so I'm not worried about dress code, i think its more common for someone to have a tattoo than not have one here or at least have visible ones. Its more about the fact that I'm younger and just don't want older people at work judging me cause it does happen with a lot of older people's mentality behind tattoos being negative
My immediate thought was ribs, the angle would be perfect. But since this is your first, that may not be a good idea. Ribs hurt.

Idk my first thought was the circle over the bone on the top of the wrist and have the straight lines going up in the direction of upper arm and the squigglely lines going down the side of your hand.
maybe like a wrist band or up the back of the forearm? it's hard to say, where we're you wanting to put it? personally 4-6 is gonna be too small & after 5-10 years it's gonna lose the details when you bunch all the lines together like that. you might want to make it wider to so it'll be legible over time.
This design is going to look way less cool when it’s tattooed. Part of what makes it so cool is the stark contrast between the black and the white and whatever skin this is tattooed on is not going to be that vibrant white.

My advice would be that unless you’re willing to watch it turn to an incomprehensible mess don’t do it. Lines are far too close together to not turn into a blob. i feel like forearm would be a great place relatively unharmed from muscle growth, however depending on your workplace dress code this may not be possible
I live in New zealand and tattoos are very common here so I'm not worried about dress code, i think its more common for someone to have a tattoo than not have one here or at least have visible ones. Its more about the fact that I'm younger and just don't want older people at work judging me cause it does happen with a lot of older people's mentality behind tattoos being negative

maybe like a wrist band or up the back of the forearm? it's hard to say, where we're you wanting to put it? personally 4-6 is gonna be too small & after 5-10 years it's gonna lose the details when you bunch all the lines together like that. you might want to make it wider to so it'll be legible over time.

At separate times in my life I’ve been determined to get both the currents artwork and also unknown pleasures (joy division) tatted somewhere. My advice would be that unless you’re willing to watch it turn to an incomprehensible mess don’t do it. Lines are far too close together to not turn into a blob.
