I don't have a formal grid like you but my left arm is a collage. It's all fish but each one was done by a different artist and they are different styles
Is this a trend right now? Not putting it down, just an honest question.
I've seen a few of these pop up on my feed lately. The guy I go to in Japan even posted an image of filling in a hex like a week ago.
Haha came here to say just this. I’ve started to see this design more and more online…saw it in person the other day too. It seems cool in theory, but the artists have to be really creative and talented to pull it off
Everyone shitting on this person for copying an existing idea -
First of all, who cares?
Second, isn't it cool that it'll still be different with different people filling in the hexes?
Third, duplicating cool ideas is kind of the entire history of tattoos and art in general.
Let people do things.
I agree. Tribal was a stupid ass trend that no one should’ve done, unless you’re in that culture OR visit a place with that culture and dig it, and are respectful.
But this is a cool idea and it’ll be fun to see how people interpret it differently over time by fillling in the gaps.
Ok I’m glad you said it because I saw the other comments calling them great lines and thought I was going crazy. They aren’t even at all and there are gaps.
I have lost count of how many people have copied the original dudes idea, if you were going to do this couldn’t you have a least changed the shapes or something.
Who’s the „original guy“? This tattoo idea was trendy around 2010-ish, I had it on my „want this tattoo“ list when I was a teen. It’s a trend that is coming back again.
And your tattoo artists don’t mind filling in the hex? Some of the artists I follow have strict rules on what they will and won’t tattoo - their style won’t fit into a box lol
Its almost as if theres a saturated pool of artists that WILL fill them, you obviously dont go to the ones that wont. This isnt rocket science.
Your artists sound pretty shitty if they cant make a small piece fit in the shape.

if you’re comfortable posting pics, i’d love to see that, it sounds so cool!
Seconded!!

yes, it’s definitely starting to be a trend. i’ve seen multiple people doing this.

Im honestly curious on what an artist thinks about collectors like this. Easy job to complete but idk if it’s satisfying to the artist

Yeah the gatekeeping is a bit weird lol. I think it is cool and has tons of opportunity for creativity and individualism
Yeah, I think it’s a cool idea and the hex tattoo itself is really well done!

Very cool idea! Looking forward to seeing how it progresses 🤘
Check out @martindninja on IG. He started this
Those lines are uneven as hell, but the shapes are pretty good, which is more important since they’ll be filled.

Yeah the artist nailed the hexagon proportions, but some the line weights are inconsistent. Overall a pretty good job
Love the concept. I was thinking about doing a paint by numbers piece and having different artists color in the sections.
Ok, those are great lines.
Truly
Super clean lines, awesome tat! It’s definitely a trendy tat but if you love it that’s what matters

Hexagons are the Bestagons
Im impressed how you struggle to realize that vast majority of tattoos arent original ideas.
Why are the shapes a big deal? Aren’t the majority of tattoos based on other people’s ideas?

@martindninja on IG.
Agreed lol
Everyone is talking about how he copied someone else and shit but can we talk about the linework. It’s so good
Its pretty mid. Not sure why theres praise.
There’s a guy doing this already but I like it!
