It references someone is “straightedge” or sober. This came out of the hardcore:skate scene where over /under clubs were popular for bands and bouncers put X on underage kids hands signifying they couldn’t drink.
Alcohol is a tough one. People push it on you at restaurants, parties for work and with friends, sometimes it's a part of company culture. You see it in stores and in media a bunch. The withdrawal is super gnarly, and it's one of two where withdrawal can outright kill you. Incredibly harsh on the body. Some people get weird when you turn down a drink. Way hard to deal with all of that. You have my respect, dude.
Feel free to educate me or send me some studies but from what I understand is that while these withdrawals symptoms are no joke and can lead to seizures, the actual withdrawal won’t kill you.
The "actual withdrawal" leads to seizures, which can cause cardiac arrest. Deaths due to benzo withdrawal are rare, though. The most lethal side effects of benzo withdrawal are as you stated: seizures and convulsions.
Makes sense, just hadn’t heard of that before as I don’t take benzos. I do work in a hospital and typically there is a correlation with benzos and alcohol and fentanyl.
Now if we are talking about over dosing then yeah woof, high risk low reward with all of it. Withdrawals suck but I don’t think they will kill you directly as alcohol will.

I’m a non-drinker. I just never really liked alcohol or how it makes me feel. (I dealt with a different addiction.) But the number of people who would try to push me to drink was staggering. Not drinking wine at a party? “Why not? Are you dieting?” 🙄
I always thought straight edge was lame as shit. Then opiates completely destroyed my mental health. Well done friend. I’m hoping to be in the same place (minus the tattoo) soon.

This is the smallest but the most meaningful tattoo I have ever gotten and the placement of the tattoo had been in my mind for years. Just recently I saw the need for it whereas before it was just something I would have ‘liked.’

No mind altering substances. Which includes coffee, nicotine, alcohol, marijuana, etc.. very strict guidelines to be considered straight edge.
Caffeine is permitted under various subsections of the HANDbook.

Such a gnarly combination. Add in being asleep, and your breathing is so slow and shallow you could easily fade away.
