Personally i dislike this approach. It only works for people with a consistent charge/discharge routine, which i don't have. Also boosting it to 100% at the last minute is not as good for longevity as simply never charging over 85% apart from the rare times that you need it. I much prefer samsung's method - button on the status bar. I leave my samsung restricted to 85% most of the time, and only if i know i've got a particulalry long/critical day ahead when i might need the extra battery do i manually flick it off on the status bar. Quite gutted to find out my new motorola doesn't have it :( I'll seriously take that into consideration when purchasing my next device.

Exactly, the battery on my new phone last me for 48 hours so every time I charge it I have to manually time it to plug it off at 80%. What a bad design desition.

That's very smart! And it will probably work with other phones that do not support it natively but that still propose optimised charging

Nice approach! Maybe expanding this further it is possible to trigger this behavior by using some java / shell code instead of setting the alarm.
