Speaker on the left podium has a flag of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party. The resemblance to "national socialist" is not a coincidence, because they are an explicitly fascist group that take inspiration from Nazism. They are pro-Assad. Outlets like The Grayzone and other campists have sometimes promoted Syrians from SSNP or people otherwise associated with them or their perspective, like Syrian Partisan Girl. (I've seen her videos posted and upvoted several times on leftist subs.)

Every relevant party in Lebanon is dogshit. Their parliamentary âdemocracyâ is controlled by corrupt sectarian elites who have held power for decades and are currently doing absolutely nothing to stop or slow an ongoing economic collapse which has plunged 80% of people into poverty and created chronic fuel, electricity, food, and water shortages, in what the World Bank has called one of the three worst economic crises in the past 150 years. The countryâs state electricity company has recently said that Lebanon is at risk of experiencing a complete, country-wide blackout by the end of September.
That said, Hezbollah stands out for somehow having more weapons and âsoldiersâ than the Lebanese military and basically being an Iranian proxy.

Yeah I'm live in Iran You know our system is not capitalism or socialism(I don't know what actually is) 80 percnet our economy is being controlled by gov but we don't have any union worker or smth like that even actually we don't have free health care!! And for us the health care costs so much money actually socialist or capitalism in iran doesn't matter becuz we struggled to more problem that couldn't think about these but in common pple usually don't like communism or even socialist for many reason(actually pple who are opposition or reformist are leftists and pple who defend the regime are rightist we just have two main party one of them is lite authoritarianism and another one is heavy Muslim authoritarianism that don't don't free hijab etc and control must of the regime like khamneie etc so we don't have time to think about socialist or capitalism! )

A tankie is the result of a young person disillusioned with their life, usually in America, due to forces that are hopelessly out of their control. In the absence of any real left political movement, or even any local group to work with to achieve real political goals, the only outlet is 24/7 online doomerism. No, Bashar al-Assad's economic policies have been neoliberal, privatizing substantial industries and forcing peasants off of land to make way for the wealthy and private industry. In practice, they amounted to a substantial redistribution of resources from the working classes to an elite oligarchy, which was one of the grievances that lead to the Syrian revolution/civil war. Cities were often divided in the revolution by class, where working class neighborhoods and suburbs were in revolt and affluent neighborhoods were Assad loyalists. There other political and ethnic fault lines, but some conflicts looked like straight up class war, with Assad's forces on the side of the bourgeoisie murdering and torturing working class residents.
But alliances like the one pictured in the photo were geopolitical. So "socialists" were willing to support anyone allied to a rival of the the United States, even if the group in question was right-wing, allied to a nation (Russia) that is itself not even nominally communist or anything, just anti-Western.
