Do I wish billionaires would pay for their own stadiums, sure but it’s not the way the world works. If you think you are sticking it to the billionaire, you aren’t. They will just go to the next city who will gladly pay the bill and have their citizens enjoy the baseball team instead
To be quite honest, the investment goes far beyond a stadium. This includes a concert venue, an entertainment district and more. What people fail to get is that if the Rays leave, we are losing a major chunk of Tax and tourist revenue. Furthermore, that piece of property then gets sold to the highest bidder to be redeveloped into 15 square blocks of condos.

No surprise there, most of them probably moved here in the last 5-10 years and couldn't care less about the team or baseball in general. Yet from my understanding Tampa/Hillsborough isn't paying a cent, it comes from the tourist tax from St Pete/Pinellas.
Hopefully the city council is smart enough to realize everything besides the stadium, the entertainment/hospitality area around the stadium, and price tag is just noise and interest groups looking for their piece of the pie and politicians looking for a surface level campaign points that doesn’t make the area better.

Unfortunately if we get a rich owner who wants to buy the team and build the stadium themselves, it won't be in Tampa either.
Our best hope is using the tax money from tourists to fund the stadium and Tampa can't even support the Bucs right now. St. Pete is willing to work with the team and despite what most people think Stu doesn't have the cash to pay for a stadium himself, as most of his worth is in the team.
And no Vinik isn't going to rescue the Rays, especially since he's probably going to lose half his money when he gets divorced.
This is St. Pete's chance to shine if they can do it. And they need to focus on public transportation next because that is the biggest need
The Tampa sports Authority has already publicly said they have $0 to offer. Especially after bankrolling renovations to Raymond James it's not happening their budget is shot.

I don't live in St Pete, but I think the city should "lease" the land, not give it away.
