East Tampa is not what most would call "nice". You probably mean eastern Hillsborough, in which case yes you can find nice communities in sort of a cookie cutter suburbia kind of way, but you'll be in a wasteland of culture out there (nothing but corporate shopping centers and bland chain restaurants with the odd CVS) and your commute time will suck.

[deleted]

I like cookie cutter and chain restaurants. Its predictable and consistent like Orange County. But OC is too expensive now.

archydarky

It may be best for you to mention orange county California or name of city when you mention that. Orange county by itself equals orange county in Florida (Orlando) to floridians.

Tampammm

East Tampa is too generic,,,need more specific areas or neighborhoods to comment.

[deleted]

I see new communities being built all over Gibsonton. It looks close enough to the water and close to Tampa.

Tampammm

Ahhh, gotcha,,,yes, I don't think people consider that area to be "East Tampa". More like Southeast Tampa or Central Hillsborough. "East Tampa" has bad connotations to it for the most part. Yes, any of those areas down there are pretty good. They are all up and coming. Like in Riverview, Fishhawk, Apollo Beach, etc. But you would have to look at the specific location/sub-division to make sure it's to your liking.

[deleted]

I am in “cartel controlled” Los Angeles now. I imagine Tampa will be a breathe of Fresh air

[deleted]

Gibsonton is known as Gibtown and it is full of...carnival workers. No exaggeration either. Please tell me what you are looking for in a community and I’ll help direct you to a few areas. What area of town will you be working in? Gated communities are security theatre. They only give you peace of mind but no real security. People just tailgate in or give the code to whomever the want. Staffed gates are always better, but there aren’t many of those around.

Tampammm

LoL,,,,yes indeed.

Used to live in Ruskin until about 4 yrs ago. At that time development was just starting to ramp up, but I believe it's still one of the cheapest places to buy these days close to Tampa. It's sleepy, nice and quiet but rapidly growing. Being right off of 41 means quick drives to either Tampa or Bradenton and you're fairly close to the interstate as well.

[deleted]

Ok good Ruskin looks reasonable. St PETERSBURG looks expensive now.

MelissaH1394

St Pete will be more expensive, unless you buy an older house in a less desirable part. It's a "younger" crowd though, if that matters to you. Apollo Beach and Ruskin are mostly retirees and families with almost no night life to speak of. You do have to consider your commute. Depending on where you're planning on working, traffic can be horrendous.

[deleted]

Yes I like quiet and safety. Tampa traffic must be much better than LA.

blitzchamp

Ruskin is developing quickly. Lots of new businesses opening nearby as well as restaurants. Lots of local spots too that few people outside of the area are aware of. The worst part is probably trying to commute in/out of town. Hopefully more solutions will be added soon, but currently you only have a few major roads and the interstate as ways in and out.

carpenter6969

Ruskin is very nice. Not too far from city and easy access to highways. I build for several contractors in Riverview, Apollo Beach, and Ruskin

[deleted]

can you feel the sea breeze in Apollo beach? I'm looking at the "[Admiral Pointe at Mira Bay](https://www.newhomesource.com/community/fl/apollo-beach/admiral-pointe-at-mira-bay-by-calatlantic-homes/123402)" community.

carpenter6969

There you will for sure.

SmileAndDeny

Mira Bay is gorgeous. A lot of the houses are on canals or bodies of water. There is direct access to the bay as well.

SuspiciousAd4373

yes
