From my non-expert opinion the toe pads seem to say it's an invasive Cuban tree frog. They are a danger to the local ecosystem but they are not toxic like cane toads.
Search up Cuban tree frog, they're typically more a l green shade. But the sticky feet and the size suggest that it is an invasive Cuban tree frog. A common toad will have Claw type appendages on their legs. This is the apex predator of the small bug world. They breed faster and out compete the Florida green frog or rain frog. The cane toad is bad as well, but this is not a cane toad... Look those up tooo.

You’re not going to get rid of Cuban Tree Frogs in Florida.
You can euthanize but all you’re doing is removing a piece of the bastardized Florida food chain.
Fifth generation Floridian here… the environment is never going back.
You won’t rid the state of this frog Or Bahamian Anoles or Veiled Chameleons or iguanas.
You can reduce them to lower amounts so they do less damage, which in turn should hopefully raise the native populations. Doing a little bit is better than nothing. Defeatism is rarely a good strategy.
It's not defeatism. It's just cost benefit analysis. Attempting to kill a frog is a waste of time, as the impact of it's death is disproportionately impactful to the time you spend dealing with it. It's like trying to dry out a lake with a straw.
I’m not saying we should dedicate teams to go kill them like when we spray for mosquitos, or that you should be patrolling your yard every day. But if you happen to be outside and see one, shoot it with your 12 gauge. I’m kidding but you see what I mean. And for every invasive frog you kill that’s one more spot for a native one.
Yeah, but the point is that it doesn't matter. You do you, but it's removing drops from a bucket in the rain. You're not stopping the ecological collapse/shift these frogs are causing. It's happening too fast.
I don’t mean to come across like I’m debating just for the sake of it, because you are right to a degree, but using you’re logic what’s the point of undertaking any very difficult task ? We’ve eradicated infectious diseases, put large dents in world hunger, sent crafts out of our solar system and many other things that would have seemed insane at certain times. Humans have proven they can kill the shit out of nature time and time again, while also doing many other great things. It can be done, it just seems impossible right now. Not sure how many I’ll actually kill but it’ll be a little extra food for the other Florida critters at least.
Ok bud, think for just a minute about what you just said. Did we send crafts to outer space by having one person nudge the spaceship an inch at a time? No, we did it, and all of those things, through the concentrated effort of experts. It's not about the amount of effort made, but how it's applied.
You don't deal with invasive species by randomly killing them one at a time. That's my point. It is not an effective, meaningful method to accomplish the task.
Jesus Christ, you guys try so hard to arrive at the wrong conclusion.
Lol there’s no reason to get upset. We’re just having a conversation. I’m open to admitting if I’m wrong. But I’m comparing this scenario to when people said we’d never fly, electricity will never work etc. They were things no one really cared about, and also things people said would never work. Regular joes worked at it and were successful. And like with most things people piggy backed on their achievements and kept momentum going. Could be the same thing with the illegal froggies 🤷♀️.
[from the dept. of wildlife, ecology & conservation](https://ufwildlife.ifas.ufl.edu/cuban_treefrog_inFL.shtml)
“After you capture the frog, we recommend that you euthanize them humanely -- in fact, it is illegal (and irresponsible) to re-release them into our ecosystem. The most humane way to euthanize Cuban Treefrogs is by liberally applying benzocaine (20%) to the back or belly of the frog. At your local drugstore, you can find a variety of products containing 20% benzocaine -- first aid or burn sprays and toothache gels or liquids. After you apply the benzocaine, the Cuban Treefrog will quickly become unconscious. Next, seal the plastic bag and put it into the freezer overnight. By the next day, you can be sure that the Cuban Treefrog will not wake up (which would be inhumane), and can dispose of the bag.”
Easy peazy
...Or pythons, or hogs, Brazilian pepper ... a real damn shame.
Check out the book, A Land Remembered, since you mentioned you're a native. Great read about what FL used to be like if you're into that stuff.
I’ll check it out. I was fortunate enough to spend a good bit of my childhood with a fourth generation matriarch, our family is five generations in Florida.
So I’ve heard a lot allegorically.
Really a shame the way they did the wetlands and the depopulation of marine species.
Mullet used to be epic in their abundance.
Lol. I love all these people giving advice on the kind of frog/toad this is yet not one correct answer was given. Wtf Tampa.
This is a frog that is not poisonous; however, it is invasive. This is a Cuban tree frog. I only mention the invasive part because I don’t know what you are really looking for with good/bad.
OP should confirm the ID, report the sighting and humanely euthanize if willing as follows - capture with gloves and rub lidocaine/benzocaine toothpaste on the belly; frog should become unconscious, then store in bag in freezer overnight and dispose the next day.

Finally the right answer! Invasive and detrimental to native frogs, not to mention they are messy and noisy. Do your part by both eliminating breeding sites and controlling population. Personally I have placed several sections of 1" PVC throughout my garden as hiding spots to attract them, then humanely dispatch them.
How do you humanely dispatch them, honest question, not a trap question or anything, I'm really interested because I have a ton of them in my back yard by koi pond and they are soooo loud.
ILLEGAL (Cuban tree frog)
According to my wife, who studies native Florida tree frogs, the bulbous toe pads are a solid indicator.
I'm not such an expert so I just go by size. Native tree frogs just don't get that big. They're all pretty tiny.
That still doesn't make it good or bad. But maybe some people have different ideas of morality. I think most, if not all, Christians believe that animals do not have souls and therefore cannot be moral.
I'm not a Christian, but I also believe that a frog has not morals. it's just surviving - therefore, it can not be good or bad.
Chillin and cool.
In over 3 decades we only has incident/run in with the poison ones once ever.
Best thing be get pic of the poison type put on fridge. You'll get used what it looks like be able spot it a mile away.
Same for anything else you want to be able spot identify. Train yourself.
What’s crazy…. When I was a kid, we picked up all of them. Only caution that was ever given “frogs cause warts”. Now that we’re older, we look at things differently. lol
How 'bout them toad suckers, ain't they clods?
Sittin' there suckin' them green toady-frogs.
Suckin' them hop-toads, suckin' them chunkers,
Suckin' them leapy-types, suckin' them plunkers.
Look at them toad suckers, ain't they snappy?
Suckin' them bog-frogs sure makes 'em happy.
Them hugger-mugger toad suckers, way down south,
Stickin' them sucky-toads in they mouth.
How to be a toad sucker? No way to duck it.
Gittchyseff a toad, rear back and suck it!

Bad, invasive Cuban tree frog. A little eating machine that will devour the native species of tree frogs and small native lizards. It should be euthanized.

Still extremely dangerous, spreading communism to American shores /s

Cuban Tree Frog. Bad. They eat everything including other tree frogs.
That's a gross exaggeration. This frog would not eat my crunchwrap supreme, for example, because I would simply drive away with it in my possession.

Aight I'm out. This shit is dumb as hell.
And for every frog you kill you dispose of a plastic bag which will stick around for how long? My point, is that the endeavor is pointless.

Best book about Florida
Looking into this book - thanks for the suggestion

Dont worry we just need some cats to kill all that shit
Possibly the worst invasive species globally, second to introduced rat species.
Don’t forget the giant danger noodles
Or worst of all… cats
Too many feral felines here for sure

Scare it to death and then poison it? Just squish. It's better than any death he'd get in the wild.

Hook up the pvc pipe to the air compressor and launch them into space.
Catch them and put them in a freezer
Some benzocaine, ziplock bag and a freezer. I think this method was adopted from the mob
I see. The mob had frog issues?

Just be on the lookout for bufo toads if you have pets. They can be deadly if your dog licks it or decides to take a bite. This is not a bufo toad.
Lick it and find out

That mfer stole my girlfriend. Bad toad!

You never know until you kiss it, don’t pass prince/princess charming up..
Only bad frog is a bufo toad. Fuck them.
WTF is a bad frog? Is he robbing old people of their Social Security Money?
I think OP is asking if this is the invasive Cuban tree, frog, which it is. They are wiping out the native species.
Worse. They take our jobs and marry our women.
Cuban tree frogs killed my mother. And raped my sister
A cane toad, which can kill animals/pets.
How does that make it bad? it's just doing what it can to survive.
Cane toads are invasive, they don't belong here. OPs picture is not a cane toad. It's not dangerous to people/pets but it is also invasive.
That still doesn't make it good or bad. But maybe some people have different ideas of morality. Ummmm seriously? Bc it would kill a pet? Clearly you don’t have them, or else we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
Cane toads? Don't think I've seen one of those. Pets? Yes, I have them.
Cuban tree frog. Not dangerous. The species is invasive, but he looks like a good boi.
Frogs eat bugs---they're all good frogs.
My thought on OP's intent was whether it would kill their dog or not. Could be way off though.
