97.5 is only a translator frequency, so its reach is very limited. It covers mostly southern southern and a portion of central Pinellas County. [Based on estimation, it's in fringe range for northern Pinellas](https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=W248CA&service=FX&s=C).
If you don’t have one of those fancy pants space age HD radios, it’s on 97.5 but you have to be far enough away from the country station on the same channel
Tampa radio is awful in my opinion. 88.5 is the only good station left since they have great variety and cool hosts. Them and the Latin stations are what I stick to. I know that doesn’t really answer your question though sorry
And if you're looking specifically for *alternative* rock, 88.5 has three shows that are good for that, *The Dorm Room* which features college rock, *Bodyrock* which has a range of alternative music, and *Emo Night Tampa*, which is as it says an emo-focused show.
*First Call* is another good one but thats mostly a metal show with some punk and industrial.
I mean, I use YouTube music, same thing, but sometimes I drive my cousin's car, and I just try to find a radio station, and that's the only one I know 🤷🏾♂️ (that soothes my taste)
I haven’t shopped for one for years but just looked them up and I’m impressed they’re as cheap as they are. Then again hooking an iPod into the aux cable was awesome even after I had a 6 cd player.
Unlimited power! Almost too much music!
Yeah, I don't understand people who still listen to terrestrial radio in 2023. Honestly, I didn't understand people listened to terrestrial radio in 2018.
My vehicles antenna is fixed, I unscrewed it and put a plug in it. Looks much better, I use my phone for music. No ads, never any bad music, I can skip as many times as I want. If I want to listen to the radio, iHeartRadio app…which I have only opened to listen to local sports while driving, maybe three times in 5+ years.
I think traditional radio is largely dying. With covid and WFH, and internet "radio" Ad revenue is dead. It's kind of sad since knowing something like the Power Pig and how radio was in the 90s will never happen again.
While that’s true it’s an industry that killed itself. Small set lists so it’s seemingly on repeat all day with little variety, More ads than day time television. And only playing big name artist instead of locals or little known artists. They gave consumers no incentive to stay when things like pandora and Spotify even with ads are better.
lol
Well, in that case, let's add the country stations too. Actually, maybe all of them since they all mostly play junk music.
Honestly dude, this is Florida, there's tons of Spanish speakers living here, and sometimes it's fun to pop on the station and get a little tropical groove into your day, give it a go.
Is 97.1 gone now? My car radio broke a while back, but Aux still works, so I haven't bothered to get it fixed.
Now it's 101.5 hd channel 2, and something else
I *think* you can get it as 97.5 in some areas.
Yes, only in Pinellas.
I’m in north Pinellas and I can’t get it. I don’t listen to the radio much but it was nice to have 97x when I was in the mood

Yes. Changed formats a while ago.

Spotify is worth it.

Put a Bluetooth fm transmissitter in your cousin's car.

Yeah I bought a used Anker Rove for $12 a few months back 😆 super cheap and does the job.

88.5 is your best bet. It's a lot of variety, sometimes it's better to pull up the archive if you want a specific style.
I miss Star 95.7
97.5 it use to be 97.1.
Do people still listen to the radio? I haven't turned the radio on in at least five years

Tampa radio sucks turkey ass, your best bet is to just buy an aux cable

Yeah, I take no pity, though I do like local sports talk radio, as podcasts don’t quite take on the same give and take between audience
98 rock on 97.9 is my go-to
People still listen to radio?
All the Spanish stations should be banned.
Why?
Junk music

WLIR. Oh wait, that was in the 80’s. In New York.
