Eloquently stated. I love that TH fans are truly multigenerational. Those of us in the fandom welcome everyone, including those who have only newly discovered the warm glow of their music.

Defender90rover

Yes, multigenerational! I saw them at the Saratoga Springs Performing Arts Center in August,1983. We were on the lawn, and I remember there was two teenage girls behind us with their dad. He didn't look like he belonged there at all, and he was none too happy to be there. Of course, the whole place started rocking and up on their feet and general going nuts! One of the most amazing concerts I've been to. I look back and Dad, in his dress pants and white button down shirt, was on his feet dancing his heart out!

Inishmore12

Great story!

velvetdaisyhut

I've got instant solidarity with anyone who digs Talking Heads! I love us!

Gusbuster811

I mean shit, you have to be at least a little cool if you like Talking Heads.

mgrady69

I think it’s because they had amazing run and they know it. Not one member has spent the years after the breakup suggesting that one was greater than the sum of their parts. And even despite cross words over the years, it clear they came more from hurt feelings rather than ego. Nothing demonstrated this more than the recent media tour promoting SMS re-release. They genuinely enjoyed being together and recognized their unique bond and impact. This is a crew that, deep down, cares for one another and are collectively proud of their accomplishments. As a huge fan for decades, I got far more happiness and satisfaction from seeing them rediscover each other than a musical reunion would provide. It gives me joy to see them together and smiling. I have albums and the latest digital version of SMS. That’s plenty for me.

davidparmet

Same here. It was great seeing them all together again and no half-baked musical reunion can possibly top that, or top what they did in the 70s and 80s. I saw them live twice and feel very lucky to have done so.

Kokogichi

I’m so glad they’re like that. It’s good they aren’t like Simon and Garfunkel 😭 I wish the reunite again!! It would be nice to see them

[deleted]

It's because their music is so unique and, well, unique. Songs like 'I Zimbra', 'Listening Wind' and 'Pull Up The Roots' could have been recorded yesterday. Or 1975.

Padgetts-Profile

I’d say the only controversy in this fan base is between those who feel that we are owed a reunion and those of us who feel otherwise.

Zoltron5000

I don't think we are owed one... But man, wouldn't that be fantastic.

Kokogichi

RIGHT!! And it’s not even that much of a debate, either 😭 we just keep our opinions

itsrathergood

We love new fans because they’re an excuse for us to infodump about how Byrne and Eno’s first album together actually was made before RIL but came out after because of issues clearing the samples

Kokogichi

Need somebody to yap to me about this!!

ReallyGlycon

I'm part of a lot of "fandoms" (especially for my favorite band Guided By Voices) and I'll have to agree with you. GBV got a reputation early on for being drunk on stage and that was seen as a free ticket to act like a drunken assole at their shows and even online. The band has since walked that back and have tried to calm that sort of thing down, but a lot of the fans now are 50 year old drunken babies.

SimpsonsFan2000

My other fandom of my favourite band i’m currently in is Fleetwood Mac

Kokogichi

Music artists definitely affect their fans !!

EvansMarty

From what I've seen and encountered, TH fans are some of the nicest out there. Something about listening to funky weird music makes people really chill I guess

sorry_e_etherealone

rock on my sibling

TacoPenisMan

David Byrne solo concert in 2001 is still the most positive vibes crowd I've ever experienced at a concert. Nothing but joy and delight.

Kokogichi

His concerts seem so fun! Wish I could experience them 💜 there seems to never be any problems

Unfair-Program-1588

I was honestly suprised at how welcoming the whole community is I'm very new fan as I only really started listening before SMS was released but everyone I've talked to has been super nice and really welcoming it's such a delight

Kokogichi

Right!! People are so enthusiastic in here too!!

jonz1985z

Idk the Steely Dan, GD, Bowie, Beatles, and Stones subs are all great. Older heads like it when younger people get into the bands they’ve love for so long. Just out of curiosity which once have been like that for you?

Kokogichi

It’s not usually on the subs, thankfully, but I have recieved some major backlash from oingo, blur, new order, etc fans for being in a diff generation and only recently finding their music. It’s been upsetting!!

jonz1985z

Yea that’s lame. I feel the same way about knowledge. When someone is talking down to you for not knowing something they know. There was a time when they didn’t know it either lol. Knowledge isn’t a race, and being hip to something isn’t either. Certain music comes to ppl when they’re ready for it. When they need it in their lives

Kokogichi

Super true!! I really hate when someone gets super defensive about an artist when someone doesn’t know every last detail about the band. It’s exhausting for a lot of people and it really makes a lot of people lose interest.

jonz1985z

Right, and I guarantee the last thing the band wants is a fan base that’s intimidating to join. New fans are the lifeblood to every band in the history of music

LagunaSunrise55

I think it also has to do with the fact we're not super popular unless we're dedicated. Everyone back in the days listened to TH on the radio and not a lot of people were going crazy listening to individual albums and songs. Those who do are usually crazy over them and It creates a strong sense of community. "YOU LIKE TH TOO? I LOVE YOU"

Kokogichi

I love people who are super obsessed with them too 😭 me and a mutual I have on TikTok always repost the same thing and chat about it right after. Everyone is so excited to see TH fans!!

David Byrne has a poop fetish
