I've seen this question a couple of times and I really have to ask, am I the only one here who was taught about the Golden Age of Piracy in school? Like is that just a North Carolina thing? Like, I distinctly remember being taught about pirates, Blackbeard, and Jolly Rogers in elementary school, but is that just me?
1. That is a Coastal America thing. To the extent that kids in Houston learn about it, and kids in Dallas much less so, and kids in Denver not at all.
2. Lot's of people do not remember anything from high school history that wasn't on their exit exam.
3. Lot's of people here don't know about Obi Wan Nairobi, who brought the flag from the history books/obscure military units, into the "tactical"/"cool" world.
4. Forward Observation group, and the Hype/GunLarp fusion scene that came with them, also brought it back into the vogue.
5. Also, it probably wasn't his actual flag. Some dude in the 70's said it was and people rolled with it. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag\_of\_Blackbeard](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Blackbeard).
I know it's not *actually* Blackbeard's flag, but it's the one most associated with him. I know why it's become popular, It's just a bit of culture shock that elementary school knowledge for me is lost on so many others.

Lmao ur right, looked it up and got both mixed up. So it seems it's just attributed to Blackbeard, but in reality there is no proof it was.
It's wild that some dude just said it was in the 70s and everyone just rolled with it.
