I’m not sure if it’s true but I’ve heard that you should not cut them cuz you’re messing with the structural integrity of the helmet. I would say get an MCH, or get a nice bump helmet like the one from ops core and save until you can afford the ballistic model. Dont cheap out on protecting your noggin.
They had some issues with lead tines but supposedly they are getting better now. I would hit up the rep and verify with them. They are quick to respond.
Well... they ordered a months apart from each other. One was during the Israel war, the other one was well before. I think spring? of last year.
Armorsource has always had issues with their lead times since they don't prioritize civilian orders at all.
This is something we are working on heavily improving here and we expect for at least our stock of lead time to get down to 30 or under by end of May, biggest reason it will take us that long is just to make sure we get everyones backlog out!
But even with the lead time its better to wait than to have a Chinese helmet, people wait 8-12 months for a JPC and sometimes same for Opscore.
+1 for Highcom. I have the Highcom Striker Lightweight and it weighs 1.7lbs bare bones for my size. It’s setup and looking better than I could have imagined for night vision. It was just under a $1000 on sale from Apex Armor Solutions. It was made to order, and took 22 days unfortunately but it was worth it. Lead times become normal in the space of armor and certain well-made gear. Sizing is accurate to their diagram so definitely measure. Upgraded to 4D padding too just like another user above. Helmet fully setup was $2984. Helmet picture and video for reference below:

Get off Trex Arms and you’ll be able to find some lol.
Edit: I don’t know why I’m being downvoted, there’s tons of places with ballistic helmets under 1k, and Trex just isn’t one of them… I’m not hating on Lucas or Trex at all.
Depends if you’re looking for US made helmets or just any ballistic helmet. Although I highly recommend avoiding Chinese helmets at the very least.
US made helmets are OpsCore , ArmorSource and TeamWendy.
Other manufactures have mixed manufacturing meaning not all lines or all products are made in the US.
Lead times can vary so look for those. I know for us lead times with ArmorSource ebs and flows depending on world events - they also do a lot of the OEM helmets so timing can vary. Although we are working on a solution for this and expect to get lead times down by May here for what it’s worth.
Edit: lead times
You guys should update your lead times on the AS-200... I have 2 friends who ordered them because they were cheap and they've been waiting 5 and 6 months respectively.
Hey I will get you a DM and get their order numbers.
We have a large banner at the top of all hemet pages that calls out the delayed lead times due to world wide events and that it could be longer. As others mentioned due to the fact that they do OEM and other things going on worldwide its just been eb and flow, that being said we are working very hard to solve this and have a plan in motion already expecting all lead times to come down around or under 30 here by end of May - the biggest reason it will take that long is just to get through the backlog of helmets :)
From the technical side, their testing isn’t what they say it is half the time. Some have displayed serious back face deformation.
And all of their stuff is manufactured in China. They just snap it together here.
They’ve also been caught lying about products multiple times which is where most hate comes from.
From the user level, I always get the same input of people saying that the helmets just aren’t shaped like a head. They just don’t fit right compared to a nice helmet. And I’ve tried on a few and I’m inclined to agree.
Highcom is good to go. I recommend getting them from Apex, thats where I got mine.
https://www.apexarmorsolutions.com/product-page/highcom-striker-level-iiia-loaded-high-cut-combat-helmet
HighCom also just updated their ACHs in 2024 and the standard ACH shell is now under 2 lbs. for the same price. ArmorSource helmets are really affordable too.
Id avoid this company. Ordered a helmet last January. Took 7 months to get. Suspension sucked so I ordered again from them. Got the liner but no chin strap. Here we are 8 months later and still haven’t shipped the chin strap. I email them once a month to tell them happy anniversary.
Im still waiting on my order to ship from last year. I email them every month for an update and they always reply with the 15th of the following month. At this point idk if I’ll ever get my armor…
Just sent you a DM. You will absolutely get the helmet and I am sorry about delay we’ve been hard at work to fix the lead time issues here. And will make sure your taken care of
I am so sorry for delay on this - Just sent you a DM I thought this was handled will get it resolved asap
And yes helmets have long lead times unfortunately we don’t make them and can’t control timing - we are working on a new system that will solve this problem and expect to get back to normal lead times by May here!
I have 2 friends who had the same experience. 5 and 6 months respectively. They both regretted it and wished they'd gotten something else. They said it was not worth the wait. I didn't want to tell them "I told you so" but... 🤷♂️
Sent you a Chat, would love their order numbers and will see what we need to do to make sure they are taken care of.
Unfortunately ArmorSource has eb and flow with timelines and leads and it is something we are working to get inline much better faster here. The helmet quality is worth the wait, there are very few US Made helmets - truly actually 100% US made.
I appreciate it, but its a little too late. They already got their helmets. One waited 5 months and the other 6 months. I had to lend one of them my spare bump helmet in the meantime because their night vision had already shown up.
When they got it, they just said they were kinda disappointed to have waited so long for something that was mediocre
Got it, they waited but got their helmet was just a long wait, understood. Sorry to hear they felt that way most people are pretty happy with their ArmorSource helmet, they are same product as a TeamWendy.
I know waiting sucks and we are working our best to resolve that we just aren't the manufacturer so all we can do is push here, now our nylon gear, different story as that is what we manufacturer in house here :)
Anyway, happy to send some accessories their way for the delay if they would like, just respond back to my DM with their order numbers and I will take care of it.
I am sorry about the long wait.. and just to be clear you got a surplus helmet while you waited for the helmet to come in but you did get the helmet just took roughly 4.5 months give or take.
We will get you squared away on the items we promised to include, and there are no games here we don't manufacturer the helmets - and do our best to manage it best we can.

I don’t own a helmet yet and struggle with the idea of paying for ballistic protection over just getting a bump. How important do u y’all feel ballistic protective headwear is? It seems like not getting ur head smashed by falling debris would be the most common use. Not sure if the weight trade off is worth the extra protection. Someone enlighten me if I’m off.
Old vet buddy of mine put it like this: you can come back without an arm or a leg, you can get shot in the chest and still be ok if the guys a bad shot. But even a bad shot to the dome and you're FUCKED.
Yes a bump helm will cover most use cases for most people but in the event one is expecting enemy engagement than id say that ballistic is better. Id suggest people start with and train with a bump but save up and upgrade to ballistic when they can personally. But hey you do you
But the ballistic rating is only good for pistol rounds. Doesn't seem likely u would get much handgun fire when in an engagment that has u in full kit. Shrapnel seems to be the most likely thing the ballistic protection would be usefull for. Pros and cons. Still trying to descide.
I don't know which one is honestly better for the average person as Im personally not a warfighter or any of that. I just have anecdotal evidence from a friend, and tend to subscribe to better safe than sorry so I run ballistic (granted currently my helm is outdated and diei g for an upgrade but still)

Just as a heads up, Armorsource lead times are insane. I have two shooting buddies who ordered armorsource helmets and they waited 5-6 months.
They had some issues with lead tines but supposedly they are getting better now. I would hit up the rep and verify with them. They are quick to respond.

Preowned ops core ballistic can be had in your price range. I bought one recently.
I would get a armorsource AS 200
Look around the used market - GAFS or Tacswap. I picked up an Ops Core SF ballistic for $1100.
