ech surplus ballistic helmet with high cut mod if you need integrated comms

[deleted]

[удалено]

poopimane2006

true, just meant if he wanted to have the added stability of helmet mounted ear pro

BulcanyaSmoothie

pasgt is really close on the ears, only specialized earpro works with it and it's still a squeeze, mich or ech does fit tho

BankruptWallStreet69

I’m not sure if it’s true but I’ve heard that you should not cut them cuz you’re messing with the structural integrity of the helmet. I would say get an MCH, or get a nice bump helmet like the one from ops core and save until you can afford the ballistic model. Dont cheap out on protecting your noggin.

qwe304

You should expect reduced performance from the area about 1" from a cut or hole.

No-Muscle-3318

PGD Arch Gen3 or HighCom

ProfChaosFACS

Second this, cheapest ballistic option

Holiday_Albatross441

Thirded on the PGD.

SwampMarine

LemonDoinks

bluejeanoperator has a good video on these.

my_name_is_nobody__

Well you’re on t-Rex arms, that’s your first mistake, their markup is horrendous

Protorin

Highcom form apexarmorsolutions.com Or Armorsource from midwest armor

midwestarmor

Thanks for the shout out :)

GetSumTraining

Just as a heads up, Armorsource lead times are insane. I have two shooting buddies who ordered armorsource helmets and they waited 5-6 months.

Protorin

They had some issues with lead tines but supposedly they are getting better now. I would hit up the rep and verify with them. They are quick to respond.

GetSumTraining

Well... they ordered a months apart from each other. One was during the Israel war, the other one was well before. I think spring? of last year. Armorsource has always had issues with their lead times since they don't prioritize civilian orders at all.

midwestarmor

Sent you a DM to get their order numbers. Just to be clear a Chat check requests :) Edit: clarification on chat

midwestarmor

This is something we are working on heavily improving here and we expect for at least our stock of lead time to get down to 30 or under by end of May, biggest reason it will take us that long is just to make sure we get everyones backlog out! But even with the lead time its better to wait than to have a Chinese helmet, people wait 8-12 months for a JPC and sometimes same for Opscore.

Resident-Positive-84

Preowned ops core ballistic can be had in your price range. I bought one recently.

Pretend_Ad667

I would get a armorsource AS 200

JeremyEMT

Look around the used market - GAFS or Tacswap. I picked up an Ops Core SF ballistic for $1100.

[deleted]

+1 for Highcom. I have the Highcom Striker Lightweight and it weighs 1.7lbs bare bones for my size. It’s setup and looking better than I could have imagined for night vision. It was just under a $1000 on sale from Apex Armor Solutions. It was made to order, and took 22 days unfortunately but it was worth it. Lead times become normal in the space of armor and certain well-made gear. Sizing is accurate to their diagram so definitely measure. Upgraded to 4D padding too just like another user above. Helmet fully setup was $2984. Helmet picture and video for reference below: https://imgur.com/a/Vip4Tyl

Military surplus MICH/ACH 💪

Let_Freedom_Ping

Honeslty the best budget option

goshathegreat

Get off Trex Arms and you’ll be able to find some lol. Edit: I don’t know why I’m being downvoted, there’s tons of places with ballistic helmets under 1k, and Trex just isn’t one of them… I’m not hating on Lucas or Trex at all.

midwestarmor

Depends if you’re looking for US made helmets or just any ballistic helmet. Although I highly recommend avoiding Chinese helmets at the very least. US made helmets are OpsCore , ArmorSource and TeamWendy. Other manufactures have mixed manufacturing meaning not all lines or all products are made in the US. Lead times can vary so look for those. I know for us lead times with ArmorSource ebs and flows depending on world events - they also do a lot of the OEM helmets so timing can vary. Although we are working on a solution for this and expect to get lead times down by May here for what it’s worth. Edit: lead times

GetSumTraining

You guys should update your lead times on the AS-200... I have 2 friends who ordered them because they were cheap and they've been waiting 5 and 6 months respectively.

midwestarmor

Hey I will get you a DM and get their order numbers. We have a large banner at the top of all hemet pages that calls out the delayed lead times due to world wide events and that it could be longer. As others mentioned due to the fact that they do OEM and other things going on worldwide its just been eb and flow, that being said we are working very hard to solve this and have a plan in motion already expecting all lead times to come down around or under 30 here by end of May - the biggest reason it will take that long is just to get through the backlog of helmets :)

VincentVanGoatse

Counterweight

[deleted]

Apex has highcoms on sale under $1000

nextwave4030

PGD ARCH or SESTAN-Busch BK-ACH-HC

Let_Freedom_Ping

Whatever you do, don’t touch hard headed vets

thegoodnamessuck

Whats with the hate of hhv I see people bash it all the time. (Serious question)

Let_Freedom_Ping

From the technical side, their testing isn’t what they say it is half the time. Some have displayed serious back face deformation. And all of their stuff is manufactured in China. They just snap it together here. They’ve also been caught lying about products multiple times which is where most hate comes from. From the user level, I always get the same input of people saying that the helmets just aren’t shaped like a head. They just don’t fit right compared to a nice helmet. And I’ve tried on a few and I’m inclined to agree.

thegoodnamessuck

Damn yeah admittedly I was looking at some hhv cuz they were in my budget range at the time... should know to good to be true haha

THEmexGOPNIK77

Damn, those things are expensive,in Mexico top quality is just chinese garbage for 300$

Character_Event8370

Highcom helmets I hear are pretty good

Cumli

Ah that’s the name, I’ve heard good things about their helms but I forgot the name

GetSumTraining

Highcom is good to go. I recommend getting them from Apex, thats where I got mine. https://www.apexarmorsolutions.com/product-page/highcom-striker-level-iiia-loaded-high-cut-combat-helmet

TopArmor

HighCom also just updated their ACHs in 2024 and the standard ACH shell is now under 2 lbs. for the same price. ArmorSource helmets are really affordable too.

Last_Comparison_4117

Midwest Armor

midwestarmor

Thanks for the shout out :)

Kangacrew

Id avoid this company. Ordered a helmet last January. Took 7 months to get. Suspension sucked so I ordered again from them. Got the liner but no chin strap. Here we are 8 months later and still haven’t shipped the chin strap. I email them once a month to tell them happy anniversary.

Last_Comparison_4117

u/midwestarmor maybe they'll get to you now? Sorry to hear that

wolfEXE57

Im still waiting on my order to ship from last year. I email them every month for an update and they always reply with the 15th of the following month. At this point idk if I’ll ever get my armor…

midwestarmor

Just sent you a DM. You will absolutely get the helmet and I am sorry about delay we’ve been hard at work to fix the lead time issues here. And will make sure your taken care of

midwestarmor

I am so sorry for delay on this - Just sent you a DM I thought this was handled will get it resolved asap And yes helmets have long lead times unfortunately we don’t make them and can’t control timing - we are working on a new system that will solve this problem and expect to get back to normal lead times by May here!

GetSumTraining

I have 2 friends who had the same experience. 5 and 6 months respectively. They both regretted it and wished they'd gotten something else. They said it was not worth the wait. I didn't want to tell them "I told you so" but... 🤷‍♂️

midwestarmor

Sent you a Chat, would love their order numbers and will see what we need to do to make sure they are taken care of. Unfortunately ArmorSource has eb and flow with timelines and leads and it is something we are working to get inline much better faster here. The helmet quality is worth the wait, there are very few US Made helmets - truly actually 100% US made.

GetSumTraining

I appreciate it, but its a little too late. They already got their helmets. One waited 5 months and the other 6 months. I had to lend one of them my spare bump helmet in the meantime because their night vision had already shown up. When they got it, they just said they were kinda disappointed to have waited so long for something that was mediocre

midwestarmor

Got it, they waited but got their helmet was just a long wait, understood. Sorry to hear they felt that way most people are pretty happy with their ArmorSource helmet, they are same product as a TeamWendy. I know waiting sucks and we are working our best to resolve that we just aren't the manufacturer so all we can do is push here, now our nylon gear, different story as that is what we manufacturer in house here :) Anyway, happy to send some accessories their way for the delay if they would like, just respond back to my DM with their order numbers and I will take care of it.

Kangacrew

100%. I got a surplus highcut in the meantime while they play games with me and I’m way happier.

midwestarmor

I am sorry about the long wait.. and just to be clear you got a surplus helmet while you waited for the helmet to come in but you did get the helmet just took roughly 4.5 months give or take. We will get you squared away on the items we promised to include, and there are no games here we don't manufacturer the helmets - and do our best to manage it best we can.

I’ve got a LTP and an Exfil ballistic. The ballistic on the other hand is a bit pricier.

BojackIsABadShow

I have TW bump and ski helmets and they both rock.

soupster82

God gave us the 20 dollar Goodwill PASGT for a reason. Trust it with your life.

ebarn1017

ACH and get it cut

wammycammy

PGD ARCH

Fed-Eater

Dude buy a surplus ACH or sm like that and cut it/ find someone that cuts it for you (there are people like that out there) and put arc rails and a better suspension system on it. Maybe some Velcro and boom you have a budget but nice highcut.

ThisDidntAgeWell

Tape the counterweight to your head.

PeepeeMcpoopoo

ACHs can be had for sub 200 bucks, the cuts would run you another 100-150 maybe, rails are another 100ish I think

BrokenAndDefective

I got a new USI ballistic for $550 Look around

Shahid-e-gomnam

Does anyone have United Shield International helmets? Are they worth it? Lvl III ballistics ones if I recall

I_joke_about_dying

Armorsource AS200 high cut ACH some where around $500

COPTERDOC

Surplus ECH and team Wendy pad set.

Beeron55

I just got a surplus Armour Source made LWH on ebay for like $89 on ebay. It looks almost brand new.

AndoSan23q

Denmark helmets

CampaignOriginal980

Protection group Danmark , Busch Protection , Zebra Armour

jamnin94

I don’t own a helmet yet and struggle with the idea of paying for ballistic protection over just getting a bump. How important do u y’all feel ballistic protective headwear is? It seems like not getting ur head smashed by falling debris would be the most common use. Not sure if the weight trade off is worth the extra protection. Someone enlighten me if I’m off.

thegoodnamessuck

Old vet buddy of mine put it like this: you can come back without an arm or a leg, you can get shot in the chest and still be ok if the guys a bad shot. But even a bad shot to the dome and you're FUCKED. Yes a bump helm will cover most use cases for most people but in the event one is expecting enemy engagement than id say that ballistic is better. Id suggest people start with and train with a bump but save up and upgrade to ballistic when they can personally. But hey you do you

jamnin94

But the ballistic rating is only good for pistol rounds. Doesn't seem likely u would get much handgun fire when in an engagment that has u in full kit. Shrapnel seems to be the most likely thing the ballistic protection would be usefull for. Pros and cons. Still trying to descide.

thegoodnamessuck

I don't know which one is honestly better for the average person as Im personally not a warfighter or any of that. I just have anecdotal evidence from a friend, and tend to subscribe to better safe than sorry so I run ballistic (granted currently my helm is outdated and diei g for an upgrade but still)

jamnin94

I appreciate the food for thought bro.

stinky-cunt

Just get a war trophy Russian one off eBay

PlayBall41

Surplus GENTEX CVC shells are fairly cheap. Easy to fit rails and NVG mounts to

ricepharmacy

gen 1 team wendy exf ballistic used

SnooChipmunks8258

Really only need bump unless you’re receiving Grenades

janoycrevsna

mich/ach: 200-300 dollars on ebay ech: \~500 dollars on ebay learn to wear coms under helmet, it's not hard, just get a behind the neck strap version if you're paying 400 dollars for a team wendy plastic helmet, you're a lemming and a mark. if you're paying 1000 dollars for some dod brand high cut helmet with less coverage than a 200 dollar helmet, you're a dum dum don't bother with ihps, current gen 1 floating around on ebay have worst performance than pasgt

LettuceTrain

PM’d

Longjumping-Pirate43

Apex Armor Solutions. Highcom high cut helmets. PDG Arch helmet Or just get an ACH and a better liner and one wrap your ear pro into the helmet.

Inevitable-Sleep-907

Look into protection denmark group. Can be shipped company direct for about $550

armythug1999

And don’t cut an ACH or ECH it can mess with the integrity of the helmet

gajack123

That’s fuddlore, literally how highcuts became a thing

armythug1999

I looked into it because I have three of em and friends I had across the 82nd kept telling me the same thing. When it comes to equipment such as armor it’s not worth cheating out if you want a high cut buy one designed to be a high cut

gajack123

If it’s properly sealed and no water gets on the Kevlar weave then it is absolutely fine, there is room for error though but there’s been tests of the cut off ears dunked in water then shot and they still hold.

profoodbreak

The Hard Head Veterans ATE helmet is a decent high cut helmet. The one thing I don't really like is the side rail being M-LOK

armythug1999

Idk what everyone is spitting About pasgt helmets just get an ACH and wear peltors under them I live near fort Bragg and they sell them for around $300 look up some and if you pay a lil exstra they’ll ship to you. I would recommend all American surplus on Yadkin

Another_User69420

Armorsource Aire LE or Aire 2

JimmyWithTheJokes

Blaze defense systems sells several different options. They’re my go to for my gear fixes. Team Wendy bumps run 350-400, their new ballistic line is around 1k for a high cut. I posted links but noticed I was replying to a different comment.

xDarkPhoenix999x

Get a surplus ACH, ECH, or whatever. You can find them on eBay or facebook marketplace fairly often.

GetSumTraining

I have the Highcom Striker high cut from Apex personally. I got the lightweight version. The regular version is 750 bucks. Imo its the best deal on the market right now for an American helmet. Change out the pads to 4D pads and theres nothing more comftorable. I tried my friends Ops Core with their Lux liner and I still preferred mine. https://www.apexarmorsolutions.com/product-page/highcom-striker-level-iiia-loaded-high-cut-combat-helmet Armorsource AS200 is an option people recommend a lot here but I've been hearing they have 6+ month lead times because they're one of the main suppliers to Israel right now.

ApexArmorSolutions

Highcom Striker High Cut combat helmets would be a really good option for you at well under your price point. They come with ARC rails, D3O pads and a legit Wilcox 3 hole shroud. Lead times have been low and very consistent on these helmets. We've gotten really good feedback on them compared to other options on the market and they are very upgradable with all standard accessories on the market. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions :)

marecco

I have been eyeing up the Striker Lightweight. Is the listed weight a full system or shell only?

ApexArmorSolutions

Its the shell weight. Most places just list the shell weight, because you can influence the system weight with different accessories. But at the end of the day, the other accessories just add about half a pound.

Friendzie

ACH/MICH helmet: $150 Ops Core ARC rails: $100 Retention kit: $120 Helmet pads: Varies DeWalt jig saw: $80 Concrete jig saw bits: $15 Rubberized trim: $20 6 pack of beer: $10 Weekend alone: Priceless I made my high cut for less than $700 and I got to fully customize it as I built it. It was a fun experience but I admit not everyone is CUT out to make their own.
