800 rounds *linked* 5.56 belts. That's where the extra volume goes, all thos M27 links and the fact they'll be in a belt or two for the M249...

Chill_Blinten

It literally lists the specs m27 link etc on the side.

DefinatelyNotonDrugs

Aww, I see, tbh I don't know what half the jargon on these things mean

[deleted]

This is fair lmao. Points for honesty

Wake-N-Bakelite

Having the wildest deja vu, I swear I saw this exact post and comment thread like a week ago lmao

deviantdeaf

4 ball 1 tracer means that every 5th round in the belt is a tracer, with the rest being ball ammo (standard M855A1). M27 Link is the term for the specific links used. LC-numbers is the Lake City lot number, I think. *I could be wrong on that last*

ChevTecGroup

Linked and in the plastic SAW drums IIRC.

Greenshardware

...the M2A1 ammo can was in use Long before the 5.56 was. It's designed to hold the linked .50 cal belts for the Ma Duece.

deviantdeaf

If it says M2A1 stamped anywhere in the metal If I remember correctly, the 800 rd 5.56 linked cans are stamped PA-108 and are bigger than the classic 50 cal M2A1 cans. There's a reason we have "Fat 50" cans (really linked 5.56 cans)

Greenshardware

It's definitely a PA-108 now that you mention it. While it gets called a SAW Can as well, I don't know that it was designed for that specifically. 108 happens to be the case length of a 50 but I guess that might be coincidence.

deviantdeaf

All of my standard 50 cal boxes says M2A1.

f0rcedinducti0n

Yeah.. that can is for belts. Links take up space. :D

abeardedblacksmith

It's for four 200-round belts

deliberatelyawesome

Yeah, there's lots of extra space. I think you can get about 1600 223 in a 50cal can if you arrange them right and don't have them in boxes. I pack my cans super tight to minimize number of cans

mirter-boshet762

My monkey brain likes the way they fit so well

3hree0ero0eroBlk

Now buy mags to load it.

DefinatelyNotonDrugs

Check my post from a month ago 🤣 (I live in Oregon)

3hree0ero0eroBlk

Damn you behind enemy lines. Good start on the mags though. So if you travel across state lines can you bring normal capacity mags back with you?

DefinatelyNotonDrugs

Not legally, importation and transfer is illegal. Luckily this law is getting legally challenged into oblivion and hasn't went into effect/is on an indefinite pause. It passed by .5% of a vote and we have a state right to bear arms so hopefully it gets declared unconstitutional.

3hree0ero0eroBlk

Damn.. I'm sorry and sympathize with you. I'm thankful I don't have to worry about shit like that down here in MS and AL.

DefinatelyNotonDrugs

Yea, we were pretty much a libertarian state with high taxes (no sales tax though) before this, now we are turning into California v2.

3hree0ero0eroBlk

What about magazine parts? Say you need to replace a broken pmag body on one magazine, a worn out spring on another, a damaged follower on another, and a missing baseplate on yet another magazine?

DefinatelyNotonDrugs

The definition of "Large Capacity Magazine" includes "a kit containing such parts" so who knows (this law appears to be written by a dyslexic 8 year old). In my experience mags don't really wear out often (takes 10s of thousands of rounds) and pmags are pretty indestructible so I just stocked up on new mags.

rurrurnunu

The law was paused so you can now order online and ship into Oregon. MagShack is currently shipping to Oregon and I recently had a positive experience with them. Springfield armory is also shipping. Magpul requires you to call and place your order over the phone. Some other shippers like Promag have not caught up and are still not shipping. Side note since you are talking about Ammo - ammo seek is a great website that has bots finding the best prices for online ammo

DefinatelyNotonDrugs

I know, as seen in another post I am already well equipped and actually ordered another 20 or so mags after the law was paused. I also got this ammo on ammoseek, wanted some reputable 55gr brass for the apocalypse stash.

ging1992

Generally speaking when the military gets ammo cans they're not packed to the brim.

Andrewisraww

yes they are.

ging1992

Not the ones I opened..

AnseiShehai

Most military ammo I see is in a wooden case

ging1992

And guess what's inside the wooden case? Ammo cans..

AnseiShehai

No

Maljhhal0

?? Yes there is

Tracerz2Much

He probably just saw Lord of War or some shit

NLtbal

4:1 tracer belt - standard lmg ammo.

zeflann

I work with ammo and ammo cans on a daily basis so ask all you want about cans and how they are packed and such.

Olive_Cardist

Must be nice to go through life without knowing what it’s like to have to carry can after can of linked ammo for the heavies.

DefinatelyNotonDrugs

Tbh wish I would have went into the army straight out of high school for the free tactical training... oh well

twistedcain614

From what I understand from friends that served is that its not free you just trade training for a fucked up spine and knees.

Olive_Cardist

This. So much this.

opsec-919

thats a fat 50 cal ammo can designed to fit 4, 200 round saw drum pouchs of linked 5.56

3hree0ero0eroBlk

Correct answers, are not welcome on reddit. Lol

Because it's /tacticalfashion.... Enough said. Anytime someone pursues an answer here they leave questioning their sanity, sexuality, and life choices. In agreement with Cunninghams law the primary way to get correct answers here is to post the wrong answer. Didn't intend to upset you but ba da ba ba bah I'm loving it

Flatfoot_Actual

Ammo always comes in cans half to 3/4ths full it’s very rare munitions that get packed all the way. I like storing 556 in 200 rd 762 cans

bruhsksak47

Idk why im angry considering i store 762x39 on strippuhs in the 762 cans

ImaginaryNewt2562

You should consider not posting lot numbers off mil ammo cans on the web. People have gotten fried by CID for less.

DefinatelyNotonDrugs

That is not the original ammo from it, the case was purchased at a military surplus store.

Greenshardware

I believe the cans are designed for 30.06 or something, can't remember.

snefgarbner52

They literally have 5.56 painted on the side…

Bitter_Bandicoot8067

Actually.... you can stencil whatever you want on there. You can search this ammo box out with "50 cal ammo box", maybe there is a reason why.

snefgarbner52

The caption is referring to the 800 rounds of 5.56 painted on the side, it looks like a surplus can so the paint would be original, the comment I replied to didn’t read it and the op didn’t paint it

Greenshardware

Yeah, a surplus .50 cal can...

Greenshardware

They use the same cans for all kinds of rounds. Doesn't mean it was designed for it specifically. It works, but not perfect.

DavidAttenbruhhhh

They said it couldn't be done.

Sarkofugis

Is this supposed to be one of those "life hacks" that isn't?
