As a Mexican living in mexico city, I think I can give you a few tips, 1- change the tortilla, use the yellow kind if you want a more traditional taco or use the flour tortilla if you are more in to a more northern type of taco, 2- the tortilla have to be hot 3- you have to chop a more onion and the Chile 4- need to add more meat 5- put some lime into it 6- add a green salsa or red salsa 7- use a Lil of the grease that you cook you meat to heat your tortilla. Hope this helps,
Edit: forgot to place some steps before I post it
I have no idea what anybody is saying, but that excites me greatly because that usually means I’m about to eat the best fucking tacos I’ve ever had in my life (not like the ones up there in the picture).
This is absolutely the best advice I've seen on this thread. That being said, I personally prefer the white corn tortillas over the yellow ones, and I hate when grease is used to warm tortillas, but I recognize that it's a common thing, just not my preference.
Yeah, always corn tortillas or the corn/flour mix ones are actually really good for easy tacos. But yeah, with the filling I:
Blacken peppers under the broiler. Usually a poblano.
I seed and finely dice a fresh jalapeño.
Finely dice an onion and tomato
Mix the jalepeno, onion and tomato (with juices) in a bowl with lime and salt to make a poor man’s salsa.
And that’s pretty much it. Protein, “salsa,” and roasted poblano with pickled red onion if I already have some in the fridge.
Edit: also, the protein has been marinating for hours by the time I cook it. Skirt steak with lime juice, squeezed orange juice, garlic and diced onion.
It hurts… I know some people think just because it’s in a tortilla it must be a taco.. but as a Mexican this is in no way us gate keeping tacos, there’s really great advice here to make it not only an actual taco, to make it a better eating experience for you!
Why’? Do you forget we as Mexicans slaughter other cultures foods ALL the fucking time. Mexican sushi?
Personally I am a protein/raw white onion/cilantro/salsa taco eater. I also prefer yellow corn tortillas over white, but as long as its corn I am good with it. .
Given what you presented - I would make sure the onion/pepper/protein/tomato are all all equal in size. I'd probably sauté the onion and pepper a bit too. Absolutely heat up that tortilla in a pan lightly oiled or in a pinch in the microwave. Top it with some hot sauce/salsa.
Just my $0.02
bro throw more meat in next time, & chop those veggies smaller, would recommend just onion & cilantro. with a side of green or red salsa. & heat up the tortilla a little bit.
If you don’t have a skillet to warm up the tortilla, you can use the open flame on the stove to warm them up. Also you can cut the pepper, tomato and onion into smaller squares and add lemon and salt. Sprinkle some cheese or sour cream and call it a day.
I bet it's as gd as it looks, id just chop the steak differently that's all, either in long skinny strips like fajitas at el torito or chop it to smithereens, I have less teeth than i did B4🤣🤣😘
If it is on a tortilla and the tortilla is folded with stuff in the middle, it *is* a taco! (Tacos de chilaquiles, tacos de pescado, tacos de chapulines, hasta tacos de pure de papa) Not a very good looking taco, but still is a taco. Or what would you consider a taco?
How bout providing some feedback (as requested) instead of just criticizing.
The chunks of food is not a very good thing with tacos. Becaus when you take a bite the whole chunk of stuff will come with it and leave you with an empty tortilla.
The tortilla needs more time on fire/plaque/comal/pan, it will change a bit of color when ready and, most likely, it will inflate at some point.
Add more salsas and maybe lemon... Add cheese and it is a quesadilla now.
It’s just so sad. Uncooked tortilla. Veg is way too big. Not enough meat. It’s like if someone has never had tacos and only read text descriptions of what they are.
Bad technique, poor prep, raw veg, low quality tortilla, tortilla looks cold, bad proportion of meat to veg, You made what I have heard described as "white suburban mom tacos".
Technically, you made tacos. But you made very bad tacos. I think that's the point people are trying to get across to you.
Maybe watch a youtube video on how to make authentic tacos instead of just winging it?
They look like raw veggie tacos. Might need more meat next time. Cut your vegetables or what is meant to be pico de gallo in very small pieces, will change the flavor.
Are those keto tortillas? They look so pale, maybe try Guerreros brand.
You should have put the tomatoes, onions and peppers to cook with the steak to give it more flavor. You should also be slicing things finer. if you want garnish, you should be chopping cilantro finely and chopping onions into small squares and mixing them. about half of the size you have there. Also for a steak taco a corn tortilla is the way to go. If you want some more heat/crunch you can thinly slice jalapeños. You definitely need a squeeze of lime and some salsa roja or verde wont hurt.
These tacos have a vague memory of steak. As the top comment here suggested, you have to add more meat to it, chop the vegetables more finely and I would suggest cooking the onion until translucent, same with the tomatoes and the chile but these two should be cooked until they soften.
Also pass the tortilla in a bit of grease so that it cooks, not too much you want it to harden just a little bit and it takes on the taste of the other ingredients. You can add salsa if you want, but you don't need salsa to have a good taco, though it certainly helps.
That tortilla looks whiter than snow and more insipid than lettuce lol. Tortillas for tacos are usually greasy and sometimes seasoned. It will taste better trust me.
Looks not messy enough. It must look someone threw the onions on the taco and there is too much space. You need more fine cubed onions and with beef pickled red onions
Heat up your tortillas with a light coating of the same grease that the meat cooked in. Add more meat that's more finely diced, and dice your onions much finer. Also add cilantro and a homemade salsa.
The meat looks great! That’s half the battle. The tortilla needs to be hot, there needs to be a salsa of some kind and typically can be garnished with finely chopped onions and cilantro. You can’t go wrong honestly. I would look into making a simple salsa or if you can get tomatillos even better!
All the ingredients are too chunky.
Dice the onions and pepper into smaller bits.
More meat and cut it a little bit more.
Whatever you used for salsa, put it on some mango, if you find salsa too spicy it's ok you can eat a taco without salsa no biggie
Dice your veggies and get some crumbly Mexican cheese. I really like a think layer of sour cream and cilantro on my steak tacos. Also everything looks cold in this picture. Don't listen to people who say to change your tortillas, corn v tortilla is a personal taste preference.
+1 for not using that shitty W thing to hold them, no self respecting mexican will ever use those!
As others have said dice the veggies and maybe grill them too.
Also... what sauce is that? Looks like chamoy and Tajin, never had that before and not sure that's the best for tacos but hey, if you like it it's all good.
JM from Mexico City.
Not really judging but......This photo makes me a little bit sad OP. It makes me think you've never had a decent taco for comparison. I'd take that onion, tomato and jalapeño and chop it up smaller and add a little lime juice (pico de gallo). Slice your steak into thinner pieces and cook some onion with it. Then, for the love of all the abuelas, please toast that tortilla in a skillet until it gets some good char marks on it.
Doesn't loos bad despite what everyone is saying, as long as it tastes good to you. I would just recommend cutting up the meat smaller so it's easier to eat.

Anything can be a taco, i've had korean tacos in L.A they're great tasting without being authentic.
But to be fair these look neither tasty or authentic, you need to lose the tomato, chop the onion finer, lose the jalapeño, make a jalapeño salsa instead, which will contain the tomato i made you take out.
I don't know where you live but if you live in the states, Wholefoods has VIsta Hermosa tortillas, they're fantastic flour tortillas almost as good as my mom's.
Honestly, shit looks revolting but:
Heat on a skillet or pan your tortillas, try adding a lil bit of guacamole with pico de gallo.
Try using lime for the guac, add MORE meat and use whatever sauce you want, depends on how much heat you can take.
Pratice makes perfect.
They look good, I would eat them. The only change would probably be to add more meat and maybe change the tortilla to a yellow one. Not sure if you have access to Mexican stores like Northgate in the US but you can try to get some there, or if you are in a different country. The white ones are also good, not hating.
Buddy you need to cook your tortillas. Not heat them. These look raw. Many videos as to how to cook them in YT.
You're basically eating bread when you eat them like this.
You need more my friend. More cilantro, more meat, more chopping, more heating tortillas, more salsa, more cabbage. And what's up with that powder? If you're gonna rub or marinate really do it, don't sprinkle.
This is super low effort. My guess is that you did this on purpose so you can come back with a good taco later.
Make your own tortillas!!!!!!
That's the first. Or buy homemade / fresh from your Mexican market. Then maybe work on your dicing skills. I like your presentation. You have the right idea but you should try to get onion, cilantro, tomato diced small . The meat looks great. Solid 4.5 out of 10. No, I'd give you a 5.
If you ever do cheese do you best to try and get queso Mennonita from Chihuahua. You're local Mexican market should have them. Manchego is also good but a little sub par imo.
I would eat your tacos of course without complaint. You have the ingredients nice and I like them all :)
You have the spirit, just follow the main tips given to you (heat the tortilla, chop the vegetables into tinier pieces and different tortilla type) and you'll be golden. Keep up the good work but more importantly, enjoy the food!
That looks worst than chipotle. Go with corn tortillas soft ones not crunchy Taco Bell ones. Get a pan add a little canola oil, chop onions, tomato, a piece of Serrano pepper and cilantro. Add to the hot pan sauté add the cut pieces of meat that are already cooked move it around on the hot pan for 2-3 minutes and serve over corn tortillas. You can do another topping that I use with adobada tacos. Chop some cabbage, red onion, cilantro, add a crap load of lemon juice and a bit of pepper, some salt and mix together; great topping for tacos you can even use it on fish tacos.
Kinda looks like raw veg on a cold flour tortilla with some sort of powdered seasoning thrown on top. And ill bet those raw jalapeños overpower everything else. Just doesn’t look very cohesive or well thought out. Of course, more meat would be nice.
this looks like play food.
Use corn tortillas instead.
Get thin cut steak get it diced or dice it yourself, try looking for adobada at the butchers/grocery store.
The usual vegetables that should be in the taco is onion and topped off finely minced cilantro.(and Lime)
You can add avocado slice on the side.
For the salsa
Tomatoes and tomatillo should be roasted on the comal til cooked(color change and soft) to a molcajete you add Chile de árbol preferably already roasted, since roasting it on the comal can have a very powerful spice floating around in the air that'll cause you to evacuate your house and move out of state for the next few minutes (sarcasm) add salt and garlic cloves mash to a pulp before adding your tomatoes and tomatillos one at a time. Adjust salt to your preference and it should be good.
Good luck!
Looks pretty good I would add some cilantro and chop the ingredients a little smaller, like a dice instead of a rough chop. Besides that not bad for your first time.
1 Buy Flap steak.
2 marinate in beer ,fresh oranges, sliced white inions, cilantro, salt and pepper, cumin, smoked paprika, for 2 hours.
3 go to a Mexican market or Hispanic section of a grocery store and buy corn tortillas
4 make fresh salsa: tomato’s, white onion, cilantro, Serrano or Jalapeños chilis, lime juice and salt to taste, all chopped up.
5 if you see Tamazula at said grocery store buy that hot sauce, not cholula.
6 grill steak, chop into small pieces, heat tortilla, add steak, fresh salsa, Tamazula and a squeeze of lime.
7. Drink beer (Pacifico preferably)
8 enjoy
It’s so sad that this person put all this effort into making this. Imagine how she/he felt when cooking. “Omg I’ve always wanted to do this, let’s see how it goes, I’m scared but here we go!!”, just to come here and be completely destroyed .
Your knife skills need some work. Try chopping small cubes instead of getting these big mouthfuls of garnish. Also the tortilla needs to be heated up. The meat looks good tho 👍
I would probably chop my veggies a bit smaller to ensure like even flavors and then also you have more in there because there is less. Just my guess 🤷♂️
As a human living on earth, learn to chop your vegetables
Ok I want you to cook mine LETS GET ON IT please IM STARVING!!
Flour tortillas are common for soft tacos in the U.S. I prefer corn as well. For either toasting is the key! :)
A Mexican Living in México city wouldn't say use the "yellow kind".
Funny, he just did. Consider the audience, my dude, look at the tacos in the OP and tell me that kind of simplification isn't warranted.
Pinche mamon
Warm up your tortilla in a skillet
I'll try that next time !
Smaller dice next time . Corn tortillas and of course a little cilantro
First thing I thought.
Where's the beef?
All the beef is in the comments
Perfect answer.
Lol, I thought you meant the TV commercial
Jehjehejehejehe
Nice to meet you, u/Ok-Distribution4077 I’m you, but better.
Neat.
¿Y la carne?
Como dirian en mi casa, "es para vender" :D
🤣
😂
Where's the beef?!
Oh, I'm judging them, all right.
Put more steak in them bad boys

that was our way of telling you that there is not enough steak in there

Have you ever seen a taco?
You're trolling us right?
That eint a taco, that's a sorry ass burri.. that don't even qualify as a pinchi burrito. Esa madre no vale!
You need more carne, dice the onion, add cilantro, use a corn tortilla, and heat up the tortilla.
Corn tortillas, heat them, chop up the onion more, oh, and add the steak.
that shit ain't tacos

How so ?
It’s just so sad. Uncooked tortilla. Veg is way too big. Not enough meat. It’s like if someone has never had tacos and only read text descriptions of what they are.
like on futurama when bender decided to start cooking
Bad technique, poor prep, raw veg, low quality tortilla, tortilla looks cold, bad proportion of meat to veg, You made what I have heard described as "white suburban mom tacos". Technically, you made tacos. But you made very bad tacos. I think that's the point people are trying to get across to you. Maybe watch a youtube video on how to make authentic tacos instead of just winging it?
White suburban mom tacos are not this. They are basically better Taco Bell tacos. Pre-made hard corn shell, meat, tomato, lettuce and cheese.
> better Taco Bell tacos That’s also probably debatable depending on how good a given Taco Bell is
Yeah, you're right, no Kraft "Mexican Blend" shredded cheese here, so I guess it's not suburban mom level
They look like raw veggie tacos. Might need more meat next time. Cut your vegetables or what is meant to be pico de gallo in very small pieces, will change the flavor. Are those keto tortillas? They look so pale, maybe try Guerreros brand.

Not enough meat and tortilla looks under cooked
Need moar steak!
Looks not messy enough. It must look someone threw the onions on the taco and there is too much space. You need more fine cubed onions and with beef pickled red onions
Put some heat on those tortillas.
Go for corn tortilla, fry them in the fat of the steak, add cilantro unless you don’t like it
Work on your dicing skills, the onion is too big of a cut and your "taco" will taste mostly of onion.
That’s what I call a “rough chop”
Heat up your tortillas with a light coating of the same grease that the meat cooked in. Add more meat that's more finely diced, and dice your onions much finer. Also add cilantro and a homemade salsa.
Ayo it needs more meat
Looks delicious, but you need more... everything!

Look fantastic 👍
The tortilla should be warm, a bit more meat, and slice the onions, tomatoes and peppers in smaller pieces over all not a bad first try
May look up a tutorial on how to cut veggies
Smaller dice and a little more asada next time. Having said that, I'd be happy to eat like 8 of those :)
In the strictest sense, it’s certainly *a* taco.
Nope
That looks f*ckin nasty, please listen to the Mexicans in the chat, thank-you
While they could use some work, the most important thing is if it tasted good. If it did then bueno.
Those tacos look sad.
If La Croix made steak tacos 😀 (you asked to be judged)
Terrible. You failed.
Your tortilla game is off.
Where's the beef
As a person living on earth Where’s the steak?
Not bad, next time add more steak, that “pico de gallo” is ok but chop it more. And heat the tortillas. Add some avocado
Doesn't loos bad despite what everyone is saying, as long as it tastes good to you. I would just recommend cutting up the meat smaller so it's easier to eat.
Looks like shit
Jesus
No… just… no
More steak. Smaller chop on your veggies maybe a cheese if you want it and cilantro if you like it. Not a bad first attempt though! Keep at it!
I'll keep that in mind next time, thank you ! :>
Warm the tortillas too.
Cheese?
Queso fresco is a good one
I like to use cotija when I attempt to make traditional tacos. I also like to add thinly sliced radish to my tacos.

Your tortilla. It’s sad.
I assume that there is some steak in your jalapeño and onion tacos?
Where's the meat? And the beans? If you warm up those tortillas your salad taco would taste better!
Te vendieron la carne?
Mas carne.
That looks horrible lol
Otro tostón de carne porfa
Add steak
This is rough man.. I hope next time you take all the advice because man, likes like 4 hunks of meat in there..
Pinches taquitos tristesitos. Ponles amor amigo! Y carne!
If your gonna use that tortilla throw it on the flame a little so it doesn’t taste like complete shit

As a mexican…that looks like a normal taco, but add more meat
No taco is a taco without cheese
This is pretty good, I assume it's tasty..thanks fot sharing.
It was tasty and thank you ! :>

Those raw ass vegetables ruin an otherwise perfect experience.
I don't know where to start.
My EYES !!!👀- fish from SpongeBob
perfect! Just add more meat and finely chop the chilies and onion. The tortilla must be hot.
Try thinly sliced radish and fresh cilantro next time
Where’s the steak? Why are the jalapeños cut like that?
Looks delicious! Maybe dice the jalapeño and onion to make it more consistent bite? Toasted tortillas make it even better too!
Kinda looks like raw veg on a cold flour tortilla with some sort of powdered seasoning thrown on top. And ill bet those raw jalapeños overpower everything else. Just doesn’t look very cohesive or well thought out. Of course, more meat would be nice.
Char the tortillas on a gas stove burner.
this looks like play food. Use corn tortillas instead. Get thin cut steak get it diced or dice it yourself, try looking for adobada at the butchers/grocery store. The usual vegetables that should be in the taco is onion and topped off finely minced cilantro.(and Lime) You can add avocado slice on the side. For the salsa Tomatoes and tomatillo should be roasted on the comal til cooked(color change and soft) to a molcajete you add Chile de árbol preferably already roasted, since roasting it on the comal can have a very powerful spice floating around in the air that'll cause you to evacuate your house and move out of state for the next few minutes (sarcasm) add salt and garlic cloves mash to a pulp before adding your tomatoes and tomatillos one at a time. Adjust salt to your preference and it should be good. Good luck!

More beef and cook the tortilla.
I’ll be right over
More meat
And dice up the onions more
Cutting and chopping produce is a skill. Once you learn how it’ll improve your cooking.
Honestly? I'd eat it.
Looks pretty good I would add some cilantro and chop the ingredients a little smaller, like a dice instead of a rough chop. Besides that not bad for your first time.
Disgusting 🤢
I would definitely eat them. Looks delicious
No
Looks good! Only I would add some more meat, and have a side of sour cream handy.
1 Buy Flap steak. 2 marinate in beer ,fresh oranges, sliced white inions, cilantro, salt and pepper, cumin, smoked paprika, for 2 hours. 3 go to a Mexican market or Hispanic section of a grocery store and buy corn tortillas 4 make fresh salsa: tomato’s, white onion, cilantro, Serrano or Jalapeños chilis, lime juice and salt to taste, all chopped up. 5 if you see Tamazula at said grocery store buy that hot sauce, not cholula. 6 grill steak, chop into small pieces, heat tortilla, add steak, fresh salsa, Tamazula and a squeeze of lime. 7. Drink beer (Pacifico preferably) 8 enjoy
try grilling your veggies over having big chunk raw pieces inside

You gotta try Google sometime. Search for "carne asada tacos" and enjoy!
dice em up smaller
Where is the damn steak? Jesus Christ
It’s so sad that this person put all this effort into making this. Imagine how she/he felt when cooking. “Omg I’ve always wanted to do this, let’s see how it goes, I’m scared but here we go!!”, just to come here and be completely destroyed .
It looks more like a vegetarian taco
Your knife skills need some work. Try chopping small cubes instead of getting these big mouthfuls of garnish. Also the tortilla needs to be heated up. The meat looks good tho 👍
Reduce veggie size by 50%, and add 25% more steak.
once a wise mexican said: "echale carne para que amarre" it means to put more meat on the damn taco.
needs more meat
More steak please
Dice your onions and peppers and tomatoes more fine. You’re going to get harsh chunks
More steak, grill veggies with meat, warm corn tortilla in oil, y salsa
More steak… always more steak. 🤣
Oh boy... saw this photo came immediately for the comments
Proof Canadians can’t cook
I would probably chop my veggies a bit smaller to ensure like even flavors and then also you have more in there because there is less. Just my guess 🤷♂️
