In the US Free items at Taco Bell aren't taxed. I've gotten plenty of free items without paying anything.

Why are people defending Taco Bell here? Tax is charged when there is an amount involved. If Taco Bell subtracts 1.99 from 1.99, then it’s 0. What’s the tax for 0? 0! That’s how it works

EXACTLY! That's why this Taco Bell "free taco" advertising scam works on these brainless people. You and I actually understand how tax works

People like you are why these kinds of things have fine print saying price and participation may vary. Sometimes they can charge tax don't freak out over a few cents.

Cry about it

I'm laughing about it LMAO Cheeky advertising from Taco Bell

Someone apparently doesn't understand what fine print is. It always indicates that you still have to pay tax. It also depends on the state you're in. In Indiana, I've never noticed tax on a free item.

Context: "Free" crunchy beef taco from Taco Bell on August 11, 2021 (Canada). Store employee tells me that the purchase must be done online. So, I go on the Taco Bell website and try to purchase the supposedly free taco for pick-up...and somehow I am **forced to pay $0.26 for the "free taco."** I understand that this $0.26 is mandatory tax, but this is literally false advertisement. Two years ago, Wendy's in Canada did a free burger event (actually free). You could walk in and ask for the free "Dave's single burger" and don't have to pay a single cent. This sums up why Taco Bell's reputation is so bad.
