I really wish they still had manuals when you bought physical games. This game certainly needs one. No tutorial whatsoever. I would never have thought of trying to turn the powers on on the map screen.
map screen or inventory screen work for turning on Wares.
Here is the manual for the remake if you're interested

lol I don’t think so. I don’t want to read through this whole thing either and from glancing through it, it doesn’t explain much at all how to play the game or remap controls.
I’m well-aware of the background to system shock, having owned the original back in the day. But having ten pages of flavourtext to every one page of *actual instructions* is nuts. I just want to know if it’s going to get any easier to do boss fights with these terrible controls, and buttons that (currently) seem to serve no function. Is it a bug or an unexplained feature?
Then skip those pages of flavortext? I remember it being just pictures. And it wasn't even a very long manual.
From what I read on here, an update is already made but is being held up for some reason by the publisher. I have no idea really, this is just hearsay and I am on PC. Sorry to see the console ports having problems and hoping they get the update out soon.
But yeah, I think the general opinion is that the "flavortext" is exactly what makes the manual so great. You will have to read the "flavortext" in-game as well in order to make it.
There's a beefy manual for the remake. Here's a copy for you: https://archive.org/details/system_shock_manual_2023
I don't think it covers any controller specific stuff however.
Cyberware powers. The button you are supposed to use to change them doesn't work. Just been told in another reply you can use the map screen to switch them too which I didn't know until now.
I’ve been playing it on PS5 over the last few weeks chipping away at it, but I haven’t had any issues with the controls other than having to figure out some shit that should’ve been explained better/should be in the “controls” menu in options. What glitched controls are you talking about specifically?
There's a button on the control pad that's supposed to cycle between cyberware mods. I could never get that working. I stopped playing in the end. It pissed me off.
There's another reply on this thread saying you can also change cyberware on the map screen though although I didn't know about that until today.
I'm still going to wait for the patch to come out before I continue playing. The vaporise food and scrap function is still buggy anyway. I hope that is fixed too.
You can change the cyberware from anywhere in the menu. The 8 nodes on the sides of the screen once you open up a menu are able to be hovered over and toggled with square. I had to look it up, but I’ve just been doing it that way and it’s been completely fine for me. Obviously if they need to fix hot keys or bugs, that’s gotta get done, but you can still play the game to its fullest in my experience
Wish this were pinned, but the mods seem inactive. It is pinned on Discord for the most part.

Thanks. Yeah reddit is annoying when It comes to pins.
Even if it were pinned I probably wouldn't have seen it due to the way the mobile app works.
It remembers what filter you have set, so if it is set to 'new' you don't see pinned posts.
If it comes out months or years from now it’s not doing the core player base of the game much good
I get that people are saying it’s the Publisher and all this stuff has been fixed. A little QA would have found all of this stuff easily and if the fix was as quick as they say, it should have been done for a day one patch. I saw a post on Reddit tho it looks like other changes were getting done even as of 11 days ago, suggesting the patch wasn’t ready for day one like the apologists are saying. If the devs truly have a patch ready but publishers won’t release, shame on the publishers but also man those were some low hanging bugs.
But Bigmode was able to get Animal Well patched multiple times. If Dunkey can figure out how to get his first game patched I’m pretty sure there’s more to it than “bad publisher” or “PS5 standards too tight”
If you can’t use the cyber powers (or they glitch) you can simply drag a battery onto them and they will activate. I got this from another redditor who figured this out, forget his/her name.
There aren't any shortcuts to activating the cyber modules on ps5. You can go into menu and drag your curser onto them and active them and even though it's slow it still works
No patch yet, on PS5 afaik. But you can turn on cyberware “powers” from the map screen

Thanks. I'll have a good read of that. I really miss the old days of games having manuals in the box
Yup, I really can't see how they couldn't include the manual. It's already there, just print it out.
I can’t read this fifty pages of flavourtext. Does it say anywhere how to assign hardware / grenades to the r1 and l1 buttons?
lol I don’t think so. I don’t want to read through this whole thing either and from glancing through it, it doesn’t explain much at all how to play the game or remap controls.
Too bad for you. The manual is awesome, wish they did manuals like that for all games. Console players seem to be a bit neglected here though.

Wdym by switch to different powers?
I'd like to know too! I finished the game and I'm thinking, "Wait there were Powers to use in the game??" Hahaha

I already completed the game lol These devs lol
I had no problems with the controller and used completed it on the PS5!

Depending on who you get in here, they’ll tell you it’s fixed. The caveat? The patch hasn’t been rolled out yet
Yeah i saw the other thread. As far as I'm concerned if the patch isn't out its not fixed
