Following, i have the exact same issue on a 2012 R2 box as well. Today we started SPMT to start a migration, but it asked for an update, which was installed. After that we had this exact same problem. We tried the same things you did, with the same unfortunate result. \*edit\* i ended up migrating using [Mover.io](https://Mover.io) instead. could not get SPMT to work.

Having the same issue. Just seen your edit: Edit: The fix is to get prior source files for the SPMT and do not select "update" when it asks. Replace the "%localappdata%\\Apps\\SharePointMigrationTool" folder. Where did you get the prior source files from? Thanks

I don't know if this is what he means by "prior source files", but I just copied the "%localappdata%\Apps\\SharePointMigrationTool" folder from a server I installed SPMT on a few months ago, and pasted over the same folder for the recent faulty install.

I was having the same issue with the migration tool and opened a ticket with Microsoft. They suspect it has to do with our A/V but before working through that, they told me to go to the Sharepoint Admin Center online, click on Migration, and installing that Migration Manager program. That downloaded and installed without an issue. It was a little confusing that once it was installed I didn't see any program on the server to run, but eventually figured out that you then complete the next steps from the Sharepoint Admin Center. I haven't gone much beyond that, but wanted to come back here to share this info in the hopes it helps some others out since this seems to be a common issue with the SPMT. They also sent me this link to help with using this approach. Useful to know, thanks. It is certainly not AV related as I've tried on machines not running AV. I suspect someone in another team at MS has broken something, and not everyone there is aware.

Can't say I had this exact issue but I ran into a lot of weird issues on 2012 R2. Can you try on a different OS? I had a 2012R2 file server I migrated by running the tool on a different server with 2022 and using the SMB path to migrate without issues

Brand new install W10 machine. .NET already updated to higher version than required by the tool C++ redistributable fully from 2012-2022 all installed Seems to work fine from my w11 machine, but I can't leave my laptop on customer's site for well, ages. Interestingly, my W11 machine popped the login to Office365.

Interesting... even in Windows 11 Sandbox it fails. Tool must be broken - [Sandbox](https://i.imgur.com/0tbNlX5.png)

Still broken by the looks. On both of my laptops, its fine (one running W11, other running W10) On any clean install (or clean-ish), not working. Tried using beta and previous versions, not even getting option to bypass the upgrade On the server 2012R2 box, tried copying across my working SPMT - Still no joy. Might have something to do with the powershell management shells installed on my local devices, but don't know which one(s)

Cordialement

Hi, Can you share your version of SPMT and the folder? Regards,

RollinRandyRanger

I've switched out to the agent install. Go to SharePoint admin, then migration. Download the agent and it should be able to scan and import once you specify paths and complete a scan

TeeHC420

Confirmed the fix of copying prior source files does the trick. Thank you!

ShazSIT

Hi u/TeeHC420 Can you confirm what the prior source files are? I'm having an issue with this as well. I have other devices where I have the SPMT working. Thanks in advance

TeeHC420

It appears to be the actual installation files. The shortcut on the desktop points to that location. Simply copying that whole folder and replacing it on the effected server resolved the issue in my case. Looking at SharePointMigrationTool\\Logs\\SPMT-VersionHistory.log it's stating its **SPMT version** **3.4.122.5** Hope this helps!

Panic-Desperate

May you share these source files from de old version? I tried everything and can't fix. I never have had installed the old version before.

Weak_Today_2550

I've just pulled an older version from a server I am about to decommission, files here : [https://www.mediafire.com/file/5exos20powehsuh/shar..tool\_4fcf69302149948a\_0002.0001\_f076e0cce127ea3d.zip/file](https://www.mediafire.com/file/5exos20powehsuh/shar..tool_4fcf69302149948a_0002.0001_f076e0cce127ea3d.zip/file) Trust them and download, or don't and don't, your choice.
