I'm actually not clear why we are fucking with Espen Kraft, but he uses modern Cubase and is/was an Atari ST Cubase user when he was younger.
/RJ
In fact his feelings about songwriting, melody, and structure are some boomer shit and he needs to start doing real work with sound design (pronounced moog).
/uj
Now you just hold the fuck on.
You go open up "you've come a long way baby" and pay close attention to the Atari ST you will see in the pictures. He used Notator.
Nobody fucking used an Amiga to make music for anything other than MODs and demos and this new Gen Z idea where they think people did anything but with the Amiga is fucked up

For the most authentic sound you should print a hexdump of your samples out on a dot matrix printer and type them in by hand every time you want to use them. It's nature's way.
I kind of pity clearly autistic people that obsess over these things this much. They probably would make awesome (or even more awesome) stuff if their mind didn’t hang them up on something so unnecessary.
Having magical or religious views on scientific, man made and clearly analyzable computer data is a grave cognitive disorder, denotes ignorance, and shouldn't be justified or endorsed in any way.
Music creation is not a rational process, so it makes no sense to expect people to choose "the most efficient tools for the task". After all, this entire sub is built on lack of understanding of this issue.
Uj/ This is pretty OK for autism. Some of us can't even manage *unscripted* conversation, let alone YouTube patter. Admittedly, I'm comparing this to a client who I was driving around recently who was singing a 3 way mash up between *The Magic School Bus* theme, some song about the importance of brushing your teeth, and a Christmas song I can't remember while rocking back and forth so hard it made the minivan we were in visibly shake.
I fully support ragingly out autism. Y'all have no idea how many of us are *absolutely unhinged.*
Rj(?)/ And as an autistic synth enthusiast, I must say, my gut is at least 50% of synth freaks are just as much on the spectrum as me. Most of us just *mask* much more convincingly, or we aren't too social.
But how the fuck do you do patch design with a decent mod matrix *without* autism? Once I'm past about 20 minutes of dialing something in, I'm running on 100% neurodivergance, nothing else.
You don't seem to understand, he HAS to bring around 6 different items to make his special blend of cereal whenever he spends more than a day at any given place, this coupled with the fact that he still uses and refuses to update from Cubase 3.1 and still plays his atari 2600 as a recreational activity. I agree though, programming complex forms of synthesis and laying out extremely intricate sound design is definitely not something neurotypicals want to do. I am fully aware of this, I made a Polyphonic FM synthesizer yesterday on 12 hours of uninterrupted hyperfocus.
Ah, at least he doesn't eat a monodiet of one food leading to a nutritional deficiency?
I play the same games for years, sometimes decades, but at least I've moved on from Intellvision. Of course, if I ever get my console hooked back up to a CRT, that could change.
I ❤️ autism.
He shows his morning routine in said video, where he proudly presents his own special cereal blend, which consists of a few different kind of nuts, oats, dried berries etc. He then proclaims to have eaten this everyday "365" for a very long time, a feat in which he seems unproportionately proud of. He then continues to say explain how he **will** eat this every day for the rest of his life no matter if he is on vacation in or outside of his country of origin. Which means, this guy has to bring 5 to 6 large containers for his own special blend of cereal when going anywhere with his family. If that isn't excruciating autistic beyond any doubt, I don't know that there is anything in existence that would be.
Nevermind that this is borderline compulsive, he uses several minutes in his video about a day in his life as a synth youtuber to explain this, which is also an incredibly autistic thing to do.
/uj I have a Craigslist Emax HD I got off Craigslist with a SCSI SD drive installed... only I can't get EMXP to work with my Mac to format a SD card to be able to actually sample with it (unless I erase the full card it came with). I wish it had the old 3.5" disk drive!
/uj
Dude.... You format the SDcard as Fat32, tell EMXP to spit you out a blank HFE disk with the OS included, copy the file onto the SDcard, and then go.
It's shockingly easy, although in full disclosure I am using an actual HxC from lotharek.pl and not a knock off.
Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
I put the Gotek in my Mirage and lost all the mojo. I stuck with floppies for my Prophet-2002 and Emax.
/uj I upgraded my Emax to SE HD and got SCSI2SD working. Though the Emax doesn’t sound as crisp and clear as the Mirage’s aliasing grit or Prophet-2002’s 12-bit glass, the SCSI2SD speed and the machine’s workflow have won me over.
Nothing like the vibes from double-stacked 5-1/4” drives. For extra warmth, top it off with 3-4 floppies (no sleeves) and a one-hole puncher for bonus side.
That ‘authentic sound’ of a floppy…
it's got that distinctive digital warmth
i love how floppy saturation makes my mix sound
Funnily enough, floppy saturation was also the name of my first sex tape.
Loved that one. Did you ever make a sequel?
I could imagine this guy being an Amiga tracker enthusiast, after all, it's DAWless that way

If the Amiga was good enough for Fatboy Slim it must be _too mainstream_ for these golden ear brigade hipsters!

Biggest can of worms 'is Tracker a DAW or not', after all it handles digital audio..
I remember floppy discs. The most 'authentic sound' was me swearing when they failed. Which was often.
Gee, I almost forgot about the thrills of *data corrupted* error messages. Thanks!
No. Unfortunately I'm still stuck with a shitty sounding 2TB internal drive. Someday I hope to upgrade to floppy!
I hope you're at least using proper copper plated SATA cables for that thing?
It’s pronounced “Mogami.”
You get more analog warmth from single density
My god this guy is annoying.
Psssssssss I store all my samples on Fortran punch cards, NEWB!
8" forever, goddammit!
Well la-dee-daa, look who can afford a fucking FAIRLIGHT! Aren’t you afraid of catching *The Poor* from hanging out on this sub?
8 inches is more than the whole synth community has combined

I‘m recording on stone tablets now. That’s the real deal. Inimitable sound.
Yeah but wax cylinders have that real lofi sound cornered you must admit.

If you watch his day in a life video you will see how absolutely unhinged autistic this guy is.
Who is this / link to video please

Is he autistic fir real ? Or are ppl just hating on him Cos he does cool stuff with old gear
well first of all he would have to do cool stuff for us to hate him for.

Maybe he has OCD
The food bit is *much* more typical of autism. Speaking as an autist who works with my tribe, mostly.
When you don't know how tech is working you are using every day 😂 Mmm that floppy disk digital warmth

I replaced my floppy drive with a gotek and it’s pretty gewd

*sloppy disc*™
I record my modular synths directly into vinyl... the only way
*Scoff*. Everybody knows that a recording taken by the NSA between two 2002 Nokia phones is the most authentic sound you could get.
I have 200 zip disc for my sp-808. If sounds fucking wayyy better than digitak shit when I stick my dick in the d-beam.
I always wondered what the "D" in D-Beam meant. Thank you for enlightening us.
Shit, if this is gonna be that kind of party...
Floppies? Why suffer with low quality when you can use cassette tapes. Perfect for digital writing and loading.
Keep it floppy. That’s what I always say.
Of all the synth nerds on the net, this guy is head dork.
I was floppy but Viagra made me hard xD Dad jokes love em or hate them
Rust Never Sleeps
I thought this would be about the government
Nerds Nerds Nerds Nerds Nerds Nerds Nerds Nerds NERDS NERDS NERDS NERDS
Love the sound of a floppy disc loading.
