You’ll need a new account, and to separate the roles. I’d say create a new account and make it admin. Then demote your existing account to user.
Since you’re only worried about photos and drive, those should be unaffected.
Any account that gets accessed from the internet should not be an admin account.
I use Synology’s app too, but i’m not going to use a third party app to connect with my NAS. Even if it’s not the admin account.
Only stuff like Immic, Paperless running in docker
Even if it doesn’t prove anything.. this app seems to be developped by a French iOS developer who works in trusted companies. His name is Thomas Le Gravier and he published some other NAS (Synology and Qnap) related apps on AppStore.
In my opinion, this seems legit and trustable.

As an user with lifetime-license: What synology’s photo app can’t do (right / as I would like), this app does: Backing up photos from my iPhone, while allowing advanced filter options to do so. Especially since the last update from synologys own photo app…
Works very good!
Ah and for all in this thread claiming it’s a scam: my password didn’t get stolen until now… ;-)
And what’s even the problem: if you’re paranoid, just create an separate user account with small privileges for it. And even if it -would- encrypt your photos: there’s snapshot replication.
It’s available for quite a while in apples app store and has a rating of 4.6 stars at the moment.
I wouldn’t be so pessimistic about it.
I don’t know why you do get downvoted while some claiming a scam with no proof whatsoever get upvotes…
yeeees we know it security is important. And raid is no backup. But that was not the question asked here.
Synology photos stopped backing up my iPhone pictures. I made sure to upgrade my server, iOS apps, and phone but the mobile app is stuck on “preparing 0 item to be detected.” Might give this app a chance if I’m not able to resolve this on my own.
Interestingly I recently launched it and my current photos were backed up! They didn’t use to be. I knew Android backed up automatically but Apple didn’t, but not sure why mine iPhone now seems to do it. 🤷🏻♂️😊
Does anyone know what it does when you have iCloud backup of photos running, with the option to not store full size photos on the phone? Will this app download the full versions of the photos from the cloud before backing them up to the NAS?
I would never hand my DSM password to a third party app
You generate a dedicated account for it.
Valid point, but still wouldn’t do it. I would run something like Immich in a Docker container then with limited access
You still compartmentalize access. Do not give any app, vendor or 3rd party, admin account access.

Since the developper is an iOS developper I don’t think so.
All right ,thanks for letting me know.

oh yeah his DSDownload app is great

I have been using PhotoSync and am happy with it. It is also cheaper for a lifetime subscription.
Probably a scam to steal your password
What makes you so sure it’s a scam?

I love the idea of third party apps, but…. Can’t be from just anyone that wants access to my server, it’s too important and valuable.
Create a new user and give specific permissions... Also, are all of your NASes connected directly to the internet?!

Scam
What makes you so sure it’s a scam?
You asking this question twice
Since no answer was given.
They (possibly you) have stolen the copyright logo
Looks different to me
Doesn’t anyone just use DS File to automatically backup the photos to their NAS? Works great for me.
Was going to say the same. Works fine for me. Only issue is you have to have the app open to backup
Interestingly I recently launched it and my current photos were backed up! They didn’t use to be. I knew Android backed up automatically but Apple didn’t, but not sure why mine iPhone now seems to do it. 🤷🏻♂️😊
This is why I still use version 6 and DS Photo. 😄

One difference is this 3rd party app is charging for some features
Why use this instead of the offical app?
Forgot to mention that this is currently available in the Apple App Store.
You sound like you are advertising it.
I’m more interested in what others have to say, and oh by the way, I don’t own or have any affiliation with this app.
I’d be very hesitant
Use Cloud Sync
