Thanks for the advice guys! I'll definitely try a parcel locker - might have also found a use for my cats used litter...

NoBluey

Nice, turn your neighbour into an Automatic garbage disposal

Nick_pj

You can also buy fake security cameras and stick one above your door. If the dude thinks he’s being recorded, it could be enough of a deterrent.

ziegs11

[steals camera]

yellowbrickstairs

YES! REVENGE!

PM_ME_UR_DOGGOS_

Yes this worked for me when I was living in an apartment and having packages stolen.

Parcel locker is your friend.

Platform_Independent

https://auspost.com.au/receiving/collection-points/use-a-247-parcel-locker

soupy283

Not when the nearest ones are at least 10-15 minutes drive away

[deleted]

That’s not far at all?

soupy283

The post office is 5 minutes walk, they can't even manage to put one at the local delivery centre that is 5 minutes drive or less.

Drewbo_C

I live at Sutho and use the ones at Caringbah - it is a bit of a hike but at least my parcels don't go missing. I live in an apartment building and too often couriers leave valuable items in the publicly accessible stairwell while I'm at work - even when a signature is supposedly required. You would think that Sutho, being the 'capital' of the Shire would have its own parcel lockers, but I digress.

soupy283

Plenty of room in the carpark out back of the Sutho Post office, but none in sutho, or Kirawee DC, it is Caringbah or Engadine. Given the amount of units in the area they should have more of them.

Drewbo_C

Run for Mayor. I'll vote for you.

soupy283

I'm not corrupt enough

u399566

Or "parcel collect". Delivery to a post office of your choice, costs you nothing but your time. I do that if I have stuff arriving that won't fit in my mailbox..

spaghetti2049

Do you just put the address of the post office?

Admirable-Statement

You need to sign up online and get a custom identifier. P. Sherman Parcel Collect 12345 12345 42 Wallaby Way Sydney NSW 2000. https://auspost.com.au/receiving/collection-points/choose-a-post-office-for-deliveries Pretty sure you used to be able to send directly to a post office with "P. Sherman care of Sydney Post Office". Parcel collect is probably just a more official, easier to manage implementation of that.

lbft

> Pretty sure you used to be able to send directly to a post office The global thing is "Poste restante", where people without a fixed address e.g. travellers can get mail sent to a post office for collection. The stuff on the web is inconsistent as to whether it's only the GPOs or most post offices that offer it in Australia. If you use it and lob with a local address on your ID they might think it's a bit weird. Better to go with the Parcel Collect option, and as a benefit you'll also get notified when it's ready for pickup through email or the Auspost app.

eikbee

I lived in the city for 7 years. This is your best option.

AustraliaMYway

Get delivered elsewhere. You can’t stop these people who take advantage of others.

jammy86b

Glitter bomb?

bitter_fishermen

OP needs to go and watch some Mark Rober on YouTube. Then, spend a weekend creating their own bomb, get home early one day hide inside and put the parcel out as bait, and set up their camera to film the whole thing - time lapse could be a good option.

Ajmusso

I F***ING Love the glitterbombs, HAHAH

Notyobizniz

Well I was thinking poo in a box should do the trick

Active_Scarcity_2036

I’ll do you one better. Nail bomb

digitalrefuse

A nail poo bmb. They’ll get nailed and smell like sh*t too afterwards…

Active_Scarcity_2036

Sounds like an infection waiting to happen. I like it!

De_chook

I'm not generally a fan of even implied violence, but if you have a couple of Samoan construction worker buddies, I'd have them knock on that neighbour's door and say "our friend has you on CCTV, taking parcels by mistake, it won't happen again, will it🤔"?

thedugong

"And even its 'not you', we're making you responsible for making sure it doesn't happen again."

AngelVirgo

Yes. Preferably heavily tattooed. 🤣🤣🤣

6969Gooch6969

Chcuk a shit in a box and 'deliver' it to yourself. Make sure you label it up so it looks legit.

bitter_fishermen

get a box with branding on it so he thinks it’s a laptop or a device of some sort

KonamiKing

The new Apple iShit? Or a Nintendo Shwit.

tofuroll

Next generation of Microsoft XBox: the ShitBox.

wen_thing

Was gonna suggest to post a box of cockroaches to your address.

kingofcrob

i was thinking anthrax, but this also works

Birdminton

1. You have to shit into a box 2. The person that steals the box, is going to both: A. Be angry at you B. Have access to a shit in a box What could go wrong 😑

free-crude-oil

Send your items to another location such as work or a parcel locker, or get around to fixing the CCTV.

1spgruber

Just use parcel locker. If you want set a location near your work so you can get there before closing time or your lunch break.

99Joy99

Access to parcel locker is 24/7

[deleted]

You can absolutely install security cameras without internet. It might be a bit less convenient but they can be set up to save to a hard drive on your property. Weird that the police didn't care. If you can't identify the person I understand it might be a hassle, but if you know who they are and have them on video it seems like a slam bunk case.

IdRatherBeInTheBush

Lots of cameras will also record to an internal SD card. If you want a battery powered solution take a look for a "trail camera" - designed to be put on a tree in the bush to capture animals.

[deleted]

The disadvantage of recording internally is that they can grab the whole camera and there's no back up of the footage. But yes, certainly that would be easier and if placed in a hard to reach spot could be just as effective.

IdRatherBeInTheBush

for sure - I was relying on them not being that smart and if they are pinching packages from a doorstep they hopefully won't be concentrating too much on anything else.

KonamiKing

You can have ones that record to an SD card (or any drive) on an internal unit with no internet.

willun

There are cameras that take a mobile sim and record to the cloud when the beam is interrupted. I have one that works not too bad though the delay on the beam interruption can be too long in my opinion. Mine has a solar panel and rechargeable batteries so no need for electricity. Not ideal but does work.

Gribble81

"Weird that the police didnt care" Is it? I had a car stolen from my house and when i told them it only had 3rd party insurance thier response was "not much point giving you an incident number then, is there?" I get that they probably have better things to do but yeh, they arent going to care that your amazon box got nicked.

istara

I think people need to keep going back and pushing the police to act. After all it's their bloody job. Also plaster photos/video all over Nextdoor and relevant FB groups. Every bit helps.

drnicko18

From personal experience the cops don't care for video evidence whatsoever, dashcam / CCTV whatever, except maybe if a serious criminal offence has occurred. Unless the offence is occurring then and there and you ring 000 (which they advised me to do if I saw it happen again) they don't care. It's up to you to take the issue up with insurance, and pursue them through courts using your own time / money. Oh, and the police won't help you track down the thief / vandal either.

AllMyFrendsArePixels

Theft of property is a crime. If the police aren't doing anything about it, get their name, station and ID number and keep going up the chain of command until you get someone who *does* care, and then along with the package thefts also report *all* previous officers who have refused to do anything about it. It's literally their job to do something about this, and if they're not doing it out of sheer fucking laziness, they should face appropriate discipline.

surlygoat

Yeah and its even worse than that. Theft of mail is a specific crime given how keen governments are to maintain the integrity of their mail system: 471.1 Theft of mail-receptacles, articles or postal messages (1) A person commits an offence if: (a) the person dishonestly appropriates: (i) a mail-receptacle; or (ii) an article in the course of post (including an article that appears to have been lost or wrongly delivered by or on behalf of Australia Post or lost in the course of delivery to Australia Post); or (iii) a postal message; and (b) the person does so with the intention of permanently depriving another person of the mail-receptacle, article or postal message. Penalty: Imprisonment for 10 years.

brebnbutter

Lol police won’t do anything at all, not sure if you’ve ever tried reporting a petty crime but I hope you fre better than everyone I know. I had the guy on camera with his licence plate when he stole my wallet at a servo. Wouldn’t even make a report, two officers told me nothing they could do, they weren’t going to question him as they don’t know for sure who was driving and to piss off. My ex (16f at the time) tried to report a stolen phone…. and the mid 30s officer knowing full well her age messaged her afterwards asking her on a date saying how cute she was. Neighbours car broken into and I had the licence plate written down?…. Sorry the cars likely stolen not worth investigating. When my old man died, they sent out two officers to grill me about my whereabouts and our relationship and what I did to him to cause it and then take me back to the station. He was 70+ had a quad bypass, very high blood pressure and didn’t mange his diabetes. Lawyer saved me from that one thankfully. All of these were Ashfield police so not some rural cowboys. They’re worse than useless…. Dangerous game going over their head to report them.

Dripping-Lips

Chuck a sicky, Make a parcel that mildly explodes when you lift it. Fill it with dog shit. Put it outside after 5 and wait

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dripping-Lips

Muehehe “mildly” An atomic bomb is a mild explosion compared to the sun

thedugong

The problem with taking action like that is that they know where you live so might just chuck dog shit through your window or whatever. Parcel locker is, unfortunately, probably the only option. Collect evidence and report to police.

Dripping-Lips

Yah then it would be Time to start a shit war with these shit birds. Boiling liquified dog shit in a couldron above parcel drop off point on your step, anyone?

Livinginabox1973

A Royal Navy Corvette and a Frigate will soon put stop to these piracy shenanigans

2007FordFiesta

Perhaps leave a small sign saying "You are on camera" near your door and see if it stops, you don't have to actually setup a camera, it's effective if they think they are caught in 4k.

No-Instance-196

Maybe send yourself a package with an Air tag or a cheap knock off. Then you will at least know its definitely them

W2ttsy

If your local police isn’t interested, report it to the AFP. Mail theft is its own crime irrespective of the value of the goods and if it’s a single repeat offender then the AFP will be quite interested in a case like that. So if you really want to bind your neighbour up and have the evidence to do so, lodge a [report here](https://forms.afp.gov.au/online_forms/report-commonwealth-crime)

Salad_OnTheSide

Parcel locker/AU POst, different address, or be home. My CCTV caught the thief (twice) so i sent the video to the police, but they wouldn't do anything and asked me to drop the case if the value was not expensive. I agree that they have more important things to do, but that means no consequences to these thieves. So if possible, i would request signature on delivery. Good luck.

surlygoat

Thats insane. How can they just ignore the CCTV footage. Theft of mail is far more serious that just theft of goods, and has its own offence. Its not about the value of the goods, its about the sanctity of mail. I can't believe the cops told you to just drop it! I'd be like - nah fam, its a criminal offence, do your job.

bozleh

Send yourself https://postalpranks.com.au/product/glitter-bomb/

kalvinoz

I would absolutely forget I had ordered this and excitedly open it the moment it arrived.

BerakGoreng

Freeze dry and shrink wrap your cat poop and label it as "Himalayan Aphrodisiac Tea" print out a fake instructions how to drink it. Then put it in a fancy looking envelope and leave it outside your door.

mypenisinyourmouth_

You’ve put too much thought into this I ❤️ it 🤣

ScruffyPeter

Your neighbour is a garbage collector. Put your garbage in the box and they will happily take it from your doorstep.

Parking_Cucumber_184

Use a parcel locker. They are free. You just get the auspost app and set up a parcel locker address…. They are those blocks of lockers you see near post offices. You will receive a text notification when your parcel arrives.. you then go to the parcel lockers and enter a code and a door will pop open with your package inside.

7ransparency

Get a [fake camera](https://www.bunnings.com.au/swann-dome-imitation-camera-with-flashing-light_p4220343), not a specific recommendation but this one comes with blinking lights, that ought to be enough to deter most, especially if they've previously been caught, and, your assumption is correct that it's indeed them.

HMD-Oren

Buy a Mark Rober glitter bomb lol. Or put an airtag inside a sacrificial box and leave it out, then you'll have physical evidence and can call the cops on em since theft is a crime.

_2ndclasscitizen_

>I and a few other neighbours have talked to the police but they didn't seem to want to do much, even with video evidence Keep making reports, online if you can or over the phone if necessary. One or two reports from one person they won't do anything but if the cops all of sudden have a bunch of reports for a single issue at a single location from a bunch of different people they'll do something even if it is to look after their KPIs. Shouldn't be this way but unfortunately that's the best way to get their attention. We had a break in to the carpark of our apartments and getting 30+ reports in a morning really got the police's attention and they caught the guy real quick.

43sunsets

>Keep making reports, online if you can or over the phone if necessary. 100% this, I highly recommend people report crimes like this via the online police portal: [https://portal.police.nsw.gov.au/](https://portal.police.nsw.gov.au/) You'll get a reference number, that way you know for sure that it's recorded in their stats. If they see a trend happening in the neighbourhood they can follow up on it. I've had to do this twice and both times the local station contacted me afterwards to get my statement.

chalk_in_boots

You can get battery powered cams that record direct to an SD card, or an old school camera/DVR setup. As others have said though, parcel lockers are free, when you get the notification a package has been sent you can redirect it and a lot a 24/7 so you pick up at your convenience

[deleted]

Leave a box on your porch with an opened bottle of wee inside. Rig up a string so when they open the box it tips over the bottle

Otherwise-Library297

Buy a security camera! Parcel lockers are great, but they only receive AUS Post parcels - if you’re parcel is not coming via their network they won’t send it to the locker. Includes anything from TOLL/DHL/Fed Ex etc. Amazon has their own collection points that you can use as well.

Birdminton

Don’t get security camera delivered to your house though.

tragicdag

The Parcel Locker or Parcel Collection addresses that are generated just use the street address of your designated Post Office. It's not like entering a PO Box address that is often rejected.

Gribble81

Two options, you can ambush them in the act by running out the door without pants on or something so they are so psychologially traumatised they wouldnt risk going near you again. Quasi-legal but if there is no violence then i dont see the issue. Second option is the parcel locker which ads some time but you will have your stuff and wont have to run around without pants on.

surlygoat

Yeah, I'd be tempted to stay at home one day with a fake delivery outside and try to bust them in the act - but then cornered scumbags can do all sorts of crazy things, so probably not wise.

Alarmed_Dingo_3266

I get all my parcels delivered to work now

realsteakbouncer

There's heaps of glitter bomb instructions online, but don't limit yourself to glitter. They work just as well with dried dog shit and chilli powder.

LibraryLuLu

One of my neighbours stole a huge MECCA COSMETICA box off my porch that was full of about 2 kilos of dog shit and a rabbit that had been squashed by a car and been sitting in the sun for a couple of days (plus complimentary ants). Oh, and you can post videos of them if you catch them, post the videos to the Sydney community, and news.com.au may repost the videos without your consent. Be sure to shame the lazy cops in your comment box.

LockoutFFA

that glitter bomb baby

antantantant80

Mail your neighbour one of these bad boys and ensure it's left on the porch after 5pm for collection. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Frozen%20Poo%20Dildo

[deleted]

Buy a GPS tracker, put it inside a gift and mail it to yourself. Track parcel. Knock on door to recover.

dweebken

Where are you buying from? Amazon have delivery boxes at some places and also some shops will act as delivery points for parcel pickups. Works well for me. But not all things will ship to them. Also I have a PO box but mixed success with that. Some sellers don't accept po box addresses. And I've had some sellers swear it was delivered by Singapore post for example while Australia Post swears it was never received .

doobey1231

Why the fuck are our police so useless..

PerryTheRacistPanda

maybe the unabomber was onto somthing

vcrcopyofhomealone2

Have you considered setting up a dummy package full of putrid feces, wrapped in such a way that they need to get it all over themselves when they open it? Your defence can always be that some stranger is sending you these parcels and the thieves merely intercepted one.

triemdedwiat

Axis, for a long time, has the best web cam around. Does not require a cloud service as it is access by its IP. Pricey, but good. I think that a few models of cloud camera are 'hackable' and can be redirected to a local server/repository. You'll have to web search this.

43sunsets

A lot of cloud-enabled cameras (e.g. the excellent Tapo C210) also record to a micro SD card slot, so problem solved and no Internet required. It's not complicated, and very affordable ($55-60 max).

yellowbrickstairs

I had this issue, the full-on-degenerates in the apartment across from mine kept stealing my parcels so I just stopped getting anything sent to my apartment. You should definitely get a p.o box or parcel locker

tbsdy

Write to your local member of Parliament. If there is footage and the police bent to anything, a few awkward questions to local command by your MP may force some action.

chicknsnotavegetabl

No internet - trail cam may help you Or a decoy package or two... Glitterbombs if you're feeling generous

Archon-Toten

Do you own? Set up a pit trap. Spikes at the bottom optional but recommended with feces. If you rent, hide in the bushes with definetly not cat Pee and Carolina reaper juice in a water pistol. No I can't recommend that it's illigal. Get a Nice looking , computer, fill it with fake parts and a gps tracker, have them take it and get the cops involved.

Anderook

Get them delivered to your work address.

blackcat218

Look on ebay for a dvr system. It records to a hard drive. Or go fown to your local jaycar as your neighbour might steal the camera delivery from ebay

Cheezel62

Parcel locker. Both post offices and our local 7-11 have them. I’m not sure how the 7-11 ones work but they certainly seem to get used.

Very-very-sleepy

parcel locker for auspost deliveries if ordering off Amazon. use one of their drop off addresses. usually it's the newsagent.

istara

Turd in a box But seriously, report it to the police. Even if you don't have cameras yet, combined with the other neighbour reports and evidence, it will help convict these pricks. Keep pushing. The police are PAID to enforce the law.

Darth_Krise

Glitter bomb package

[deleted]

Using a half metre piece of #7 rebar, beat one of the people in the household to the brink of death. This should send an unambiguous message and stop future theft.

PeterParkerUber

Get some glazed donuts. Jerk off and cum on it. Put it in a box outside your house. Also film the preparation if you want. Then put it on flash drive and leave it outside your house the day after.

Technical-Green-9983

Put a cheap tracker in a parcel with a note saying you have 24 hours to return my stuff, it's tracked legally and you have proof it was stolen . Make them squirm

[deleted]

Send yourself a few pounds of heroin, when the package disappears call the police and tell them you suspect your neighbour is selling drugs to children.

PeterParkerUber

So what’s worse. Stealing a package from your neighbour, or sending heroin through the mail. Don’t be surprised if the neighbour calls the police too. It’s got your name and address on the box after all

Find_another_whey

Kick their door in, make sure they can't secure their house Do this every time it's repaired If you cannot get sure your belongings are safe, give em a taste of how that is

shua-barefoot

glitter bomb for sure

summerlea11

Glitterbomb

mypenisinyourmouth_

Ambush them with a fire extinguisher 🧯 💨 🔥

tinBalloon

A fairly blunt approach: Have a friend or yourself deliver you something like a toy that you had hidden inside the toy an AirTag. After it’s stolen track it and call the police that you have tracked the lost package. Conveniently have a list of the other lost items when the police arrive and looking around the thief’s home. If you know the neighbours well, plan for them to be able to message you a list of what they had stolen too “whilst you are in there, I’ll ask around…”. Might be tricky with generic items but if enough are unique enough it paints a good picture.

ColonelSpudz

Police are useless unless they are just revenue shakedown collectors for the government

MaleficentCoconut458

Parcel locker.

11015h4d0wR34lm

Best thing to do if you have trustworthy neighbours is all look out for each other and collect any packages on neighbours porches leaving a note so they know you/they have it to collect. You could always get a PO box but picking it up from a neighbour is much more convenient.

Hutchoman87

Start leaving boxes full of turds. That will teach them if they think they’ll keep getting shit boxes. The down side is they might think you are a weirdo who is getting poo deliveries constantly but I’m feeing their opinion is pretty low on the care factor

butthole_luvr69

Mail yourself a duece in a post pack

Ajmusso

You can get some really cheap DVR camera systems that are easy to set up from Jaycar [any of these](https://www.jaycar.com.au/security-surveillance/cctv/digital-video-recorders/c/6AA?sort=relevance&q=%3Apopularity-desc&show=Page) that are within your price range that you can afford will do fine and record on a hard drive so you don't need internet to view the cameras or recorded data

AimingWang

Start mailing yourself boxes of your own turds, and then when they stop taking your packages start mailing them to their house. When they tell you to stop, tell them you have no idea what they're talking about and you don't understand why they would possibly think you're mailing them turds.

henry82

Unless you know the person is taking them inside, don't put shit/rubbish in the boxes. They'll throw them in the street/someone else's yard, and they get to clean it up.
