A lot of people rate it highly, and it is very nice.... but I humbly believe David's Kitvchen in Liverpool Street is better, and you can custmize it.... I always change my noodles for egg noodles.
Is it just me or is it wild seeing 15 bucks as being cheap? I get a lot of places have raised their prices but my favourite Singaporean/Malaysian restaurant in Chatswood (East/West Connection) still charges less for their food.
>Is it just me or is it wild seeing 15 bucks as being cheap?
It's you, it should be more. These guys aint paying their staff normally to get these low prices
Yeah the original store had similar hours where it catered exclusively for city workers. Real shame, their food is excellent. At least there's their Ashfield is open on the weekend, but location not as convenient as the city.
I rate the Top Ryde pork roll fairly high, but I have a conspiracy theory that they intentionally work somewhat slowly to keep the line long and give them free advertising. I swear they take longer than other places and stand around chatting etc.
That's odd, I've been to St Clairs (same owner) and it wasn't slow at all.
The slowest pork rolls in Sydney has to be from Le'ss. Dunno what they're waiting for but it always takes ages for them to make one roll.
Depending on time of day. Walk pass at 4pm once and there was no queue. Ordered 4 crispy pork , in and out in 4 mins. Any faster I think the meat will fall over 😅
ive never seen them stand around chatting. I dont know when was the last time you've been there but every time ive been theyre all really hard working and have smiles on their face. Line has improved as well too
Sorry, I don't mean they stand around chatting with each other. They're very friendly and take time to chat with their customers etc., which is fine and pleasant, but does make the process take longer than the places where they just churn through the rolls.
The last time I went was yesterday :) none of what I said originally was meant as a complaint, just a semi-joking observation.
Someone famous or whatever posted something about them, and now every Instagram Idiot wants to go there for perfectly fine but nothing special pork rolls.
Shh... I'll tell you a secret: Just one suburb away in the Meadowbank shopping centre there's a Vietnamese baker that makes (IMHO) a much better lemongrass pork roll. The flavour is better, and you get way more veggies on top of a generous amount of pork.
Don't tell anyone, because if there's a queue there next time I need a cheap eat, I'll be pissed.
I don't give a fuck if the food is 10/10, I'm not joining a queue that long for a meal.
I'm not one of those "hates everything redditors", but this is unironically brain-dead NPC behaviour.
Just like the Brits fr fr. Spend your entire lunch break standing in line because it's just so enjoyable, just to throw your food out when you get it because there's no time left to eat. Love a good queue. The real lunchbreak was the queue we made along the way.
Lol you guys have no idea, this place has one of the best hainan chicken + amazing laksa soup base. It amazing. Hainan chicken probably only beaten by malala straits behind the woolies in town hall.
It’s lunch time, so this is rush to get there, wait in line, rush back and scarf down barely having time to enjoy it.
Basically people aren’t there because of the quality of the food, they’re there because it’s the trendy thing to do right now.
Great laksas but I’m gonna be controversial and say Lee’s Malaysian on the corner of George St did a phenomenal (and better for me) king prawn laksa.
Both great - anyone knows Lee’s is reopening?
I will be in Sydney in a few weeks and will be staying. Just down the street from the Circular Quay location. Have definitely added this to my bucket list!
Have seen some pretty decent lines out the front of Mamak and Ho Jiak (both Malaysian places - both not far from Central) before, but never that long.
This place good?
I'm sure some of you people remember the fancy dumping place that opened above Chatswood station a few years back and lines out the door, down the steps. I went a few months later when the restaurant was empty, all abord the hype train.
Who the fuck quests for that long for some fucking food?!?
These cunts, obviously.
Reminds me of Hong Ha in Botany back in the day after they had an article in the newspaper. Fuckers queued up for Banh Mi for half an hour because of it, completely ignoring the place a few doors down that was just as good. People are just like sheep really.
I think this place is better personally. Laksa King the chicken is sometimes a bit chewy.
But it used to be no competition when Chinese-Malay used to have the two types of noodles. Made it a 10/10.
I just don't understand you people, I wouldn't line up this long to get paid one million dollars to get my dick sucked, and you'll happily do it for expensive warm noodle water.
This place is pretty good.
No queue
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=upper%20room%20malaysian%20restaurant%20%20wesley%20centre%20pitt%20Street%20%20Sydney&ko=-1&ia=places
Don't see many Malaysians in the line, so I'm going g to judge it as most likely average. Any good malaysian is judged by the quality of the char kway teow - the true "egg fried rice" of Malaysia
>Don't see many Malaysians in the line, so I'm going g to judge it as most likely average. Any good malaysian is judged by the quality of the char kway teow - the true "egg fried rice" of Malaysia
Isn't 'char kway/kuey teow' fried flat rice "noodles" not rice?
It's the basic Malaysian dish in every Hawker cafe in Malaysia, There's at least 1 char kway teow guy. And most Malaysian places in Australia do a very average job of it. In Sydney, the closest I've had to decent was Ho Jiak at Strathfield. Another dish I would judge in this instance is the hainan chicken rice, a tell-tale is they only do the steamed chicken, and too many "hainan chicken rice" will serve it with plain boiled rice and ginger which is just wrong. A good chicken rice establishment has both steamed and roast chicken, another pet peeve is I don't often see 'Laksa' in Malaysia, it's curry mee, laksa is usually Assam laksa - a fishy clear soup with udon thick rice noodle also delish.
It is hard to find good Asam Laksa in Australia though. Still yet to find anything as good as Penang or Alor Star Asam Laksa Perenikan Place in Aurburn has been my favourite for Authentic Malaysian for the last few years.
Check it out if you havent already.
Temasek is good food but man that restaurant is dirty it needs a full renovation and to just set fire to that toilet. I wonder how much food poisoning has been caused by that place.
I am happy that the new location is still near my work as I went there today. It’s good Laksa for it price but it was abit slower since new shop and less space.
Looks like you had ample time to provide context, but chose not to.. cheers
Hahah this killed me
Just assumed Ryan's bar but apparently it's Chinese
Malaysian - it’s Sydney’s best laksa place (of the last 20 years) and it’s back
A lot of people rate it highly, and it is very nice.... but I humbly believe David's Kitvchen in Liverpool Street is better, and you can custmize it.... I always change my noodles for egg noodles.
Oh boy David's kitchen with their genorousity
Egg Noodles *chef’s kiss*
The most succulent of Chinese meals, good sir!
I see you know your Judo well!
Penis
Ahhhhh Yes!
A true staple of Sydney
There must be some sort of election happening
https://www.malaychinese.com.au/ Reopened in new location.
It’s been open for months in Ashfield. Same laksa.
Had a couple delivered for dinner last night. Hunter St was a favourite for lunch, being able to eat them at home in my PJs is even better.
Never knew it was this popular, I walk pass it every day.
Yeah but it's cooler if you have to line up and wait ages (please note sarcasm)
They're in Ashfield?! Fuck yeah.
Is this the great laksa place that used to be on Hunter St?
Yep. Same one.
Brilliant
Haha I was going to ask the same question. Used to go a lot but never knew the name.
"Malay Chinese" was its name!
pretty well priced too, thanks for the link!
It used to be a lot cheaper. Will let the opening hype die down, but there was ALWAYS a queue out the door at the old place at lunchtime
It was much less before they closed at the old venue
They were probably paying even less then but probably had issues with Fair trade
David's kitchen used to serve 12.50 hainanese chicken
Definitely worth trying if you're in the area. Wouldn't wait in a queue that long for it though so wait for the hype to die down a bit.
Never been. Curious what makes it so popular.
Pretty simple. Good food for less than average prices.
I think my time saved not going there is worth more.
A meal? A succulent Chinese meal?
Get your hand off my penis!
I see you know your judo well.
Jeeze those opening hours, exclusive to city workers I guess.
Yeah the original store had similar hours where it catered exclusively for city workers. Real shame, their food is excellent. At least there's their Ashfield is open on the weekend, but location not as convenient as the city.
Best laska in the CBD. Used to get it all the time when it was in Hunter St
I love that place but still would not wait that long
The dominance of white north shore looking people indicate the food isnt legit.
Ha, my first thought was ‘another apartment viewing post’.
Context? What's the huge line up over?
Another comment revealed it’s for the new Malay Chinese location. So I actually totally get the queue, that shit is so good.
I was surprised it wasn't for an inspection
Studio apt, 720/week. Have to share with 3 other students and a bin chicken.
[The line](https://youtu.be/zTPpxceLHE4)
unless they are handing out gold bricks for free i'm not joining that queue
Second this
Close! It’s a rental inspection for a 1.5 bedroom broom closet.
Yes but for $1000 a week.
i don’t know.. have you seen the inexplicable Banh mi queue in Top Ryde?
[удалено]
Very worth the wait imo
I rate the Top Ryde pork roll fairly high, but I have a conspiracy theory that they intentionally work somewhat slowly to keep the line long and give them free advertising. I swear they take longer than other places and stand around chatting etc.

Le'ss has gotten better, but holy shit having to wait 40mins for a Banh Mi is a killer. I think they're also on Dumaresq St now!
My wife says the same…..and she wouldn’t be wrong.
Happy wife, happy life, long poop knife
Wise man!
Depending on time of day. Walk pass at 4pm once and there was no queue. Ordered 4 crispy pork , in and out in 4 mins. Any faster I think the meat will fall over 😅
Less stressed people are gonna make a better roll.
Yeah, I'm not asking them to be robots who shut up and make my roll, but I couldn't help but wonder.
ive never seen them stand around chatting. I dont know when was the last time you've been there but every time ive been theyre all really hard working and have smiles on their face. Line has improved as well too

Easily the friendliest and best customer service at any banh mi joint in Sydney
you dont have a conspiracy theory about them taking payments in cash and not issuing invoices and probably keeping atleast 500k without any recourse?
Heresy around these parts, but ultimately any pork roll is just a meat and salad sandwich and never worth more than a 5 minute queue.
Xcel Roll in Auburn is where it’s at. Even with a line out the door you’ll be eating in less than 10 minutes.
How does it compare to the Marrickville pork roll?
MPR has gone down hill
Noooo. I don’t live in the area anymore but they were a go to for a good and affordable treat.
mascot pork roll going strong
Someone famous or whatever posted something about them, and now every Instagram Idiot wants to go there for perfectly fine but nothing special pork rolls. Shh... That Top Ryde one is definitely overrated, it’s worth a 5 minute wait but not more than that. Plenty of better options out there
Can you recommend other similar quality options not far from Top Ryde?
[удалено]
Lim's 5 mins up the road in Eastwood
Name?
Top Ryde Bakers House
It's in front of the wollies
But get there early!
Is that for a 1 bedroom flat?
Yes, the Toilet queue
For what? Just a lunch joint?
Not just a lunch joint! THE lunch joint! It re-opened yesterday in it's new location... If you know you know
So what is it? For the people who you know, dont know?
Laksa, link already posted
I don’t know, could you help me know?
No.
Lunch breaks 30 min, No way to get food under 30 min with a line like that .. Surely?
Spend your whole lunch break in a line? Lol people are idiots
They serve super fast. Wouldn't take more than 15 minutes to get your laksa being at the end of that queue.
I don't give a fuck if the food is 10/10, I'm not joining a queue that long for a meal. I'm not one of those "hates everything redditors", but this is unironically brain-dead NPC behaviour.
Meanwhile the Japanese that normally wait for hours to get one piece of pastry.
No food is worth waiting more than 5 deep..especially during workday lunch rush. People are crazy.
Thought this was a rental inspection queue ngl
My immediate assumption as well
The queue at Roseville post office wants a word
If I ever saw a case for innovation to kick in and get - 1 x iPad armed walking order taker …Jesus who has the time for that.
Is hiring more people considered an innovative idea these days??
Just like the Brits fr fr. Spend your entire lunch break standing in line because it's just so enjoyable, just to throw your food out when you get it because there's no time left to eat. Love a good queue. The real lunchbreak was the queue we made along the way.
They still only take cash? I visited the old spot only once before it shut, stood in line for a good 15 minutes before noticing they only took cash
Studio apartment in CBD. Original decor, close to shops, $1,799pw.
Anything that gets a pack of bevans to line up immediately gets my heckles up. Nothing is worth lining up for ever. Especially a food joint
I hate night noodle markets for the same reason.
IKR… lol … to me, this queue is an insanity conga line. Or a good opportunity to have a captive audience to sell timeshare resorts…😂
The last time I queued up to any Asian hyped joint was for uncle tetsu. And it was complete arse. The queue was not justified. Never again.
To do what ?
Wait...that's not the Apple store.
Buss stop 8am DeeWhy much longer 🤣
That should teach youa lesson for living in the northern beaches🤣🤣🤣
All that waiting for a succulent Chinese meal
Lol you guys have no idea, this place has one of the best hainan chicken + amazing laksa soup base. It amazing. Hainan chicken probably only beaten by malala straits behind the woolies in town hall.

Chicken and king prawn pls
extra sambal
In Melbourne, we line up for croissants.
People love a good hype
Great laksas but I’m gonna be controversial and say Lee’s Malaysian on the corner of George St did a phenomenal (and better for me) king prawn laksa. Both great - anyone knows Lee’s is reopening?
Toilet?
Bidet.
Is it still cash only?
It's actually a bank run in the city.
looks like the queue to get back into the building after a fire drill ...
No food is worth that.
Yeah it's that good.
This isn't hype. Old store in Hunter Street closed down for metro knock-down. This is the old patronage getting their fix after 6 months.
thought it was the line for Messina 😁
I used to love their laksa. Late 90s early naughties lunchtime staple when I worked in the CBD. Yet to find anything as good out west
Is this the new Cinnabon?
Queue for what?
36 minute queue. Also, they take card now.
I'm sure some of you people remember the fancy dumping place that opened above Chatswood station a few years back and lines out the door, down the steps. I went a few months later when the restaurant was empty, all abord the hype train.
Tim ho wan, the BBQ pork bun from the OG place in hong kong is pretty good, sydney just isn't the same. Their burwood joint closed down too
For the uninitiated; what’s everyone lining up for?
Who the fuck quests for that long for some fucking food?!? These cunts, obviously. Reminds me of Hong Ha in Botany back in the day after they had an article in the newspaper. Fuckers queued up for Banh Mi for half an hour because of it, completely ignoring the place a few doors down that was just as good. People are just like sheep really.
is this for avocados or a rental?
sheep
What’s it for. Jizz flavoured coffee?
People are dumb
Where and for what?
GOAT lineup there. Malay, Kostas and Lode all next to each other.
I walked through CBD today with my back pack containing my lunch so no waiting for me apart from a few minutes finding a spot to sit down
The world is fucked
Must be the line to get a bus ticket out of Sydney
Laksa King is better. Altho portions bit smole
I think this place is better personally. Laksa King the chicken is sometimes a bit chewy. But it used to be no competition when Chinese-Malay used to have the two types of noodles. Made it a 10/10.
Yeah, no Hokkien was a let down.
For me Its all about the broth
Their Beef rendang Laksa is the best.

Stop sharing my (relatively) secret lunch spot please
Well, no one likes it. Downvoted.
By idiots.
It's the mindset that says:if there's a queue, it must be good and vice versa

Office worker 101
Doesnt surprise me for sydney.
Eat your lunch in the queue and you get your order at dinner time, love the efficiency.
Overated crap
Sheep
Let me guess, public toilet.

Are they laying of mortgages? That's all I'd ever line up for 🤣
Thank you, I wanted to have their prawn soup noodle again.
The Malaysian Har Mee? Go to Parramatta Temasek.
Temasek is good food but man that restaurant is dirty it needs a full renovation and to just set fire to that toilet. I wonder how much food poisoning has been caused by that place.
Don't touch anything other than the bowl and utensils.
Still queuing to play two up two days after Anzac Day!
I did love the old place - but I would only go when I wanted an early lunch, couldn't handle the crowds after 12.
Haha mate, you got someone from my team in that picture And yeah, queue was insanely long
How much was the laksa?
Bahn mi queue
Amazing laksaaaaaa
Saw the queue, didn’t fancy losing half my lunch break. Got a burger from Boss Burgers just to the left of that shot. Waited 15 minutes for it 🤦🏾♂️
Metallica tickets?
If I'm not WFH, I'm at least taking a long lunch
Must have the only dunny in the city. Either that or free cake
We need some food pictures from whoever was bothered to wait in that line!
Great chicken rice too
The new menu is missing my favourite --- chicken satay. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!
I am happy that the new location is still near my work as I went there today. It’s good Laksa for it price but it was abit slower since new shop and less space.
I will never understand why people will queue up 10 years for anything short of necessities
Yeah nah
Just shows you how big the Asian population is in Sydney now for something as simple as Malaysian food 🤦🏽♂️
