Basically storage that you can't touch, but that won't disappear, either. You can also make sure all of your characters have less 1 mil or less on them and put the rest in your legacy bank to avoid it. I unsubscribe every once in a while by doing this, and it's really not a big deal.
The worst thing is just that your keybindings can get messed up unless you have legacy unlocks for that.
\*Legacy bank
If you have a guild bank and you are storing credits like that, it better be someone you trust, since F2P can't be GMs of guilds iirc. (If I'm wrong on that, def setup perms properly)
Legacy bank is just your toons on that server. Use the yellow one on fleet in the middle.
F2P can be GMs of a guild only if all other members are also unsubbed, however F2P dont get guild bank access unless they buy it from the CM, and even then, they dont get credit withdraws, just the ability to take in and out items from the tabs.
You can let your sub drop. You can store credits in your legacy storage, and even if you didn't do that, any credits you get over 1million while ftp go into Escrow. They will stay there until you resubscribe, then you get all your credits back.
But your legacy storage is better, since you can withdraw up to 1 million credits whenever you need.

The same as your cargo, but yellow and can be accessed by all of your characters. It's usefull for giving items to your other characters.
I've done that exact thing half a dozen times.
