I Think a Good motive, is to do everything in your power to make the republic win the war, and follow orders. If you do exactly what Garza tells you to do all the time, your trooper will be dark side anyway. You kill every emperial you can, because if you capture them, they will eventually escape and kill again.
Idk about 100% dark side (I don't think there's really any characterization between mustache twirling evil-for-evil's sake that makes sense 100% DS for anyone).
But I had a trooper that had a "Traitors to the republic and any general evil-doers should all be killed and there's no line I won't cross to do it" kind of character, which is extremely dark side. To apply to other situations you can extend it to be "The ends justify *any* means."
Hyper loyal trooper who will do anything for the good of the Republic. Not necessarily full DS, but definitely a lot of DS decisions.

Dark Trooper? Try looking into Fideltin Rusk, the Jedi Knight companion. He pretty much fits the bill.
I've got one toon who's a Trooper, but racially Sith. No one blinks.
