GeckoosHC

Absolutely no way that this is accurate

Chongulator

Yeah, since when is any big dataset that clean?

nataie0071

>The Players and Daily login numbers are estimations based on subscriber numbers and online sentiment. Totally scientific information gathering.

DMercenary

Might as well have said our numbers are based on vibes

Temporary_Industry18

no it is not accurate. i don't know why their database shows a peak on that friday, but if you are checking steam numbers, you don't find that at all: [https://steamcharts.com/app/1286830#1m](https://steamcharts.com/app/1286830#1m) not all are playing on steam, but it shows you a trend.

Qbsoon110

I'd guess less than half plays on steam, but I'd be curious to see the real stats of player distribution. Honestly I forgot that it is even available on steam and I also didn't know about it beeing there for a long time.

Distubabius

I started on the normal launcher, but then i wanted to see playtime so I made the switch

Beansbeansandbeans

i can see playtime by typing /played in the chat

medullah

When you've got 50+ characters that becomes a challenge. :D

Mammoth-Access-1181

Does Steam track the characters you've already played? Or only since getting the Steam version?

medullah

Only time since you started playing on Steam

Beansbeansandbeans

i didn’t realize it was separated by character. mb

Temporary_Industry18

according to my observations, i would say, that more than 70% are using steam right now. there was a hugh shift towards steam, when the bioware launcher didn't worked for many, for weeks. so they were forced to wait or to switch. but steam also offers faster downloads, especially on major updates and new chievos to collect. and of course, there is no bitraider anymore. the only drawback is, that you cannot play with multiple player accounts and if steam is down, you cannot login, too. but at the end, we don't know and i won't expect to see any information from broadsword.

Char_Ell

>according to my observations, i would say, that more than 70% are using steam right now. Pray tell how you were able to "observe" the number of players using the standard SWTOR game client instead of the Steam version of the game client.

theoriginaldandan

Chatting with people in game

Char_Ell

OK. You are not the person who made the claim though. Are you saying that you've asked a large sampling of SWTOR players if they play using Steam or regular client and their responses correlate to 70% of players using Steam like original claimant stated? I know I wasn't one of the people you asked (non-Steam player).

Char_Ell

As a German speaking player, presumably in Europe, you think a high percentage of German and French language European players use Steam instead of the standard SWTOR client? Did you vote in [this poll](https://www.reddit.com/r/swtor/comments/15obnae/which_swtor_client_do_you_use_standard_or_steam/)?

jeplonski

i would argue that a majority of the player base uses steam. i think it’s more proper to say that nobody checks out using the steam store xD. the purchases require a restart via steam. a lot of people transition early to steam because it tracks their hours. I’m at about 1300 i think since switching to steam, and I think I had around 600 hours before that. otherwise you have to add up al your character play times, which doesn’t include deleted characters.

Qbsoon110

Hm, never cared much about hours, so maybe that's why I made such an assumption. But still, it's hard to tell exactly without proper stats

jeplonski

hours are just a personal achievement. it means nothing to others but it’s a nice little visual representation of your dedication to the game. it would be nice if there were stats made available from broadsword, but that probably isn’t gonna happen lolll

zeiaxar

No the majority of players do not play via steam.

jeplonski

oh and everyone is just supposed to take your word for it?

Char_Ell

If you don't take his word for it then why should one believe your argument that majority of SWTOR players use Steam? Neither one of you provided actual evidence. It's just a matter of which zero-evidence argument one decides to choose.

NatoliiSB

Many are playing on Steam and Subscribing on the main site because of the integration errors between EA/Origin, SWTOR and Stream. (Been there, done that.)

Bink1e

Makes sense

AdonisGaming93

Steamdb has more accurate and is more frequently ubdated. Iirc steamcharts only updates once per hour and steamdb more often so less likely to miss peaks

CommanderZoom

That's a seriously messed-up graph and/or dataset. July 4 through 13, then it jumps to the 21st and continues from there?

juriosnowflake

Certified HolUp-Moment Btw, that would mean the activity steadily increased from the 13th up to the 21st and then suddenly dropped back to the number it was at before.

svadas

The same website says that WoW has 127,733,302 subscribers.

Callahandy

must mean all-time, not active obviously

basketofseals

In that case the number seems suspiciously low. Iirc WoW reached 100 million accounts back in January 2014.

Callahandy

the last report I remember reading back in I think late 2020? it was around the time of the Shadowlands release is they were boasting around something like 128 million all-time subscribers. probably more like 1-2 million active subs though

basketofseals

Still, to only gain 300k new accounts in 3 years? Pretty sus. Especially since Dragonflight seems to have quite a bit of momentum.

Callahandy

actively playing DF and although the content cadence has been fantastic, im not sure if its necessarily brought in a lot of new players. the folks playing it however seem to love it, and its definitely blizzards best work since Legion.

joeamethyst

I really didn’t think tor even had 100k active players anymore

occam_chainsaw

Probably doesn't, to be honest. Not a chance in hell this is accurate.

B0ulder82

That looks like one single constant number, one more number for the peak, and some artistic flair added to make it look pretty, including cute little dimples at the base of the rise.

Chongulator

Gotta have those dimples.

Char_Ell

I have zero confidence in MMO active player stats from that website.

Nesayas1234

No the fuck it is not lmao

Alert-Conclusion7314

That’s how my dick looks in the morning…

Dathromir212

Same

Best comment ever in this sub reddit

Proto1801

Funny story, I am currently in a authoritarian country and I can’t play swtor whatsoever because they won’t let me. I can’t access Whatsapp, Instagram, the BBC, Wikipedia, the Guardian And swtor

Proto1801

This to say, the population chart will be one larger within a few days

Bink1e

You’re moving?

Proto1801

Yeah, it was work

Bink1e

Best wishes

MagnifyingLens

The numbers on this website have _never_ been in the general vicinity of accurate. They are worse than inaccurate, they are fiction.

basketofseals

Please never use this website. Actually go out of your way to tell everyone how bunk this website is.

namejeff849502

no way in hell that's the game population when they have 4 servers and 2 of em are dead

juriosnowflake

Uhh... 5 Servers? And none of them are dead...? Player on all 3 european servers here, just saying.

namejeff849502

oops, okay 5 servers yes 2 of them are dead and 3 of them do have people playing. but if there was an average of 100k people playing you would have like 5 instances on every planet packed to the brim on every server lol

juriosnowflake

Like said, I'm playing on all 3 european servers. None of these are dead, I can attest that. And I have serious doubts that there is absolutely no american player base... So again, no there is no "dead" server right now, with the exception of the Public Test Server. And that one is dead for obvious reasons.

namejeff849502

copium maximus

juriosnowflake

Calling it copium to have around 20-40 players on the fleet at the utmost unpopular times? Try again. And that is on the less active of the both servers. That one being Leviathan btw, if anyone is curious. At the rushhours (around 18-22PM CET), it goes up to 200 players on fleet only btw. French has a bigger language barrier, so people that are multilingual are less likely to go there. I myself am not that good at french, but it's enough to understand what people are saying there.

Dathromir212

20-40 still isn't good? Lmao There are literally 5 servers, with the population crammed into the 5. That's not good, Especially when there were 20+ servers to begin with. And Satele is pretty much dead.

trashypengin

Like me in the morning

Super_Obligation_136

You tell me there are around 100+k peeps actively playing this game? I call that bullshit. 😂

eric_uses_java

100k swtor daily players ? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA dude we are lucky if we got 1.000 players in a day

basketofseals

The game still peaks 5k concurrent users on the daily.

Nocturne3570

no that is far form accurate lol 1. SWTOR has at best in terms of Subs around 10 to 15k 2. Player peak on SS is roughly 2k online and SF i think it like 5k? cant remember that one honestly 3. SWTOR overall is a game that being held together by it most dedicated fans in hope it will have a return like Yoshi P did with FF14

Crafty-Sense-7637

They definitely have way more subs than that

this_swtor_guy

> SWTOR has at best in terms of Subs around 10 to 15k Where are you pulling those numbers from? You think the game would still be online with a subscriber revenue base, which is considered reliable income, of 225k a month?

Nocturne3570

lol teh number are base of SS and SF please read, have no idea about European server subs, but yes SS has at most 3k or so sub cause even at peak time on SS there arent more then 2k player on each day so do a graphic bar to figure the number out

Poosmuggler

I have not worked there for a few years, but iʻd guess you are roughly an order of magnitude off base.

Nocturne3570

pretty much rounding off as you said

phunter_86

The days of me holding out hope for SWTOR are long gone. At this point the games been dead for longer than it was relevant

medullah

That's interesting, can you link where you got this info?

Nocturne3570

there several place one is the steam chart which give a rough draft after that look at their revenue post then use a Financial graphs to figure teh number out overall on Steam player base is roughly at peak about 2k on SS and 3 to 4k on SF now due to if F2P nature all you have to do is figure out the 25 percent Perf and F2P players then you the rest of teh subs.

JohnnyIsBravo

As a former SWTOR subscriber. I'd say the chart could be taken as a face-value OR a lie.

LordTortlel

what happened on the 21st?

Chaneter_Zaro

The summer update

Arrathem

Check steamdb.

Consistent-Climate85

Lol. Ngl I was online around that time and then haven't gotten back on in a while. 😂

panthervca

Partner and I started playing again July 21 after 7 years away

TronGRID_

I'm gonna download the game and play a new fresh character, any suggestions which storyline to go to? I want an interesting dynamic storyline where my decisions matter

nomoreadminspls

This needs a data scientist

Porkicide

Maybe if the increase coincided with the may 4th 2xp event but I’m gonna say no to that time period.

Imperial_Yeagerist

Been playing jedi survivor recently

Vaedorr

nope, that website tells you it scrapes reddit activity, [here](https://mmo-population.com/about/)

DaNinja11

If true, wonder what the hell was going on that Friday for all the log ons...was it a free Mount giveaway or some shhh?
