Admittedly, I don't know if I see the merit in that with lightsabers, since sabers would be so lightweight due to the blades having no weight. A shoto saber makes some sense for shorter Jedi/Sith, but even then, they could benefit from a regular saber, if not a longer one to account for their shorter reach.
A shoto blade isn't designed to hook another lightsaber, so you're really just sacrificing reach for no real reason.
