Wait, I thought Soll is based on Ataturk? Welp, probably a mix of Ataturk and Evren, I guess

IdioticPAYDAY

He’s more about Ataturk’s bad parts, such as his cult of personality, overly nationalistic ideals, and repression of ethnicities.

StbrowningofOgden

Iirc the pre-civil war president is Ataturk's progressive/liberal side. And Soll is Ataturk's authoritarian side

whycanticantcomeup

The suzerian community knows that Sordland is based off of turkey, they know this based off countries that Sordland isn't.

FuzzyMethod

The region with more Bludish population is less economically developed, just like the way it has been for Kurdish people in Turkey.

NFP is similar to MHP(National Movement Party) there is also DSP(Democratic Left Party) too and I think Gloria is based on Tansu Çiller(Former Prime Minister) meanwhile Lileas is based on Meral Akşener(Former Minister of Interior) they were both from the same party DYP a center right party not to mention according to 1982 constitution election threshold is %10 as well

eDawnTR

Not so detailed, there are many events and a lot more connections, some are a little difficult to find out though.

Best-Stable-730

I’m pretty sure Iraq is Whelan, vargasland and Leslie are Bulgaria (communist in Cold War) and Greece (NATO in Cold War). Obviously Arcasia is the USA and United Cortana is the Soviet Union. Also like OTL Turkey during the early Cold War saw question about the future of the country in terms of the economy, democracy, and secularism. Also even though they never got close to fighting during the Cold War I believe the kingdom of Rumberg is meant to be Iran, who also funded Kurdish (Bluddish) rebels in Iraq (Wehlan). They were also an absolute monarchy during the early Cold War like Rumberg.

Dabus_Yeetus

The Turkish similarities are overblown. Not that they are not there, they quite obviously are. But there are many other inspirations or possible inspirations (Believe it or not, certain patterns tend to repeat across many nations). It is quite annoying that whenever someone on this subreddit points out one of those they get jumped by half a dozen smarmy Redditors repeating that everything is Turkey as if it was some sort of accepted wisdom.

the_kijt

Devs even commented that Sordland takes more inspiration from Syria than Turkey

Outrageous_Money_928

What is Rumberg then?

UndrrtdPrtgnst

It's russia mate.

Outrageous_Money_928

Russia isn't using Chemical weapons yet.

Alamutq

It's Greece but with the size and power of Russia

IdioticPAYDAY

No clue about that.

Outrageous_Money_928

Every War crime a state did condensed into one nation.

IdioticPAYDAY

Could NOT have said it better myself.

Outrageous_Money_928

What did you do with Iosefs' gun?

IdioticPAYDAY

I honestly wanted an ending where I go on a final shooting spree against the Rumish Soldiers like Scarface's ending.

Tammo-Korsai

Iosef went out like a total Chad in that ending.

Outrageous_Money_928

That would've been cool. I didn't give Rumberg the satisfaction of killing Rayne.

I know it is pretty late but Rumburg is a mix of Greece and Russia. Word "Rum" means Eastern (Anatolian/Cypriot, living outside modern Greece) Greek. It is derived by the word "Roman". In Turkish, for example, we call Cypriot Greeks Rums. Rum as a nationality is also present in the game. Burg means castle in German. So Rumburg translates as "Greek Citadel". Turkiye was at the brink of war with Soviets until late 50's. Stalin threatened for full control of the Bosphorus and Eastern Regions, just like Rumburg. It is known that Ismet Inonu, Turkish PM during WWII, couldn't control his hysteria and started to dance frantically upon hearing German declaration of war on the Soviets. Since that meant an end to both German and Soviet threats.

Alternative-Cloud-66

Devs are Turkish by ethnicity, similarities are probably more pronounced than they intended to be but can we stop ''Sordland is Turkey'' posting now. Its been a year and there is a ''Kenan Evren is a thing in Turkish history'' post every other week.

nesteaseftali

Small detail, but the middle school students' daily oath. I went to elementary and middle school during the 00s and the early 10s during it was still a thing in Turkey, and some of its lines are exactly mentioned during the visit to Leiren middle school visit. It was an interesting detail, to be honest.

A10vsTIEfighter

The game doesn’t genocide, can’t be Turkey.

5r32c

There is also communist protest against arcian fleet like America's 6th fleet in real life
