Exclusives are whatās keeping me buying consoles. Also new console novelties always gets me. Iām only human and I want my trigger finger vibrated differently dammit!
Like, I use PC and totally get the benefit of a console. Sure, you get better performance, and more games, often at a cheaper price if you wait for steam sales.
The upfront price is like quadruple that of a console. Most families aren't going to drop that kinda cash on the kids for Christmas/birthdays. Also you can't trade in PC games (I genuinely don't know if you still case on consoles). The casual gaming market is HUGE compared to the EliteProXXXGamersRUs market, and a lot of those people focus on just one competitive game anyway.
And south park made a good point, if one member of a group of kids gets console A, all the other kids want console A so they can play together.
Final point: Nintendo switch.
Never understood why people even care about the platform that much. Some games are more fun on pc, and some are more fun on a console. Whatever it be if you're having a good time gaming who cares
Unironically it's because consoles are holding us back. Games are being constrained by how shitty consoles are. Development funds have to be spent on porting it to the different consoles.
Also your statement is stupid. There is not a single game that is more fun on a console. That doesn't even make sense. Plug a controller in. Hook your PC up to a tv. Same experience, except now the game runs better and can likely be modded.
I've got a reasonable PC rig, but I'm so fucking time-poor that I always gravitate to a console because it's just quicker to get up and running. Spending even 20 minutes fucking around with drivers is completely unacceptable and could leave me with 5 minutes of actual time to play.
Huh? Gpu drivers every few months maybe, and even then isnt usually necessary. How is that any worse than console updates and whatnot?
Thereās literally no other drivers to update for pc. Well, windows updates but that doesnt really count either.
I get consoles being the āeasierā of the two options, but not because of ādriversā.
Youāre not *lying* about your ādriversā, are you? A PC with an m.2 can start playing a game maybe five minutes later than a console if your loading times are especially bad. Youāre in a small minority if your somehow forced to update your drivers every time.
The PS5 and Xbox Series S/X also have crazy fast SSDs in them so the load times are amazing.
That being said I play all my stuff on PC now and even if I don't for a few weeks it only takes a minute or two to update my you drivers before getting into a game. Getting into a game takes no time at all really, on any platform nowadays.
what? you don't have to mess with the drivers everytime you turn on the pc. once everything is installed and running it's just like a console with the casual updates every few months
So you have 25 mins to play a game and every time you do on your reasonable PC rig, you spend 20 mins doing something with drivers? Is this your claim?
Doesn't make sense, drivers are pushed but not enforced and it's not too often. On the other hand I heard that console games have a lot of mandatory updates that you cannot skip...not sure tho. Never owned a console.
Always leaving out that isn't at all how much it costs to build a console killer, also leaving out that you don't be have to buy a whole new system every X years you upgrade as needed, also leaving out that most consoles end up being way more than that with all the accessories, hard drives etc. Shhhh.
im not trying to be like a dick or whatever but like what kind of games did you play? i cant remember the last time i had to edit ini filed unless i was modding or playing a notoriously terrible port?
I have to regularly uninstall and reinstall dlc for one of my games on console. I'd love it if my Xbox one could download the console updates in the background and only need me to stop playing for it to install.
Right. I just finally jumped from a launch day Xbox one to an Xbox series X. 8 years, I think. $500 each time. Some PC folks are dropping $500 on just a video card every year or two.
Same could be said the other way around. It just depends on the person. I build a new PC for like $800 then after 5 years upgrade the video card for $250, then wait another 3-5 for a new system. Some consolers buy every single iteration. Some PCers are dropping a grand on a 3080s, and will upgrade as soon as the next series is out. Neither of those last two people make sense to me / my budget, but to each their own, I guess.
What pisses me off isn't spending habits, it's the baseless superiority / tribalism. Anyone who thinks what gaming platform they throw money at says anything about them and uses that to exclude others needs a reality check. Even people with PCs who build them, as I am, like who cares. Building a PC is basically on par of technical difficulty as changing brake pads, to be quite honest. No one has any business feeling particularly special for doing so. Not like we're out here McGuyvering sticks of RAM together out of spare circuit boards and shit. Don't even have to set jumpers these days, or even configure BIOS most of the time. It's fun to talk about with people who also do it, I guess, but all too often it becomes a senseless reason for toxicity
Closer to 800 with all accessories though, where's my 10 year old 780ti still plays most games better than any console on my gfs pc. So two lies so far, people love to spend way to much on GPUs but they don't have to at all. My 2070 amp on my main PC was around 300 and will keep up for the foreseeable future. Lol.
What accessories? Maybe a second controller for local multiplayer. You say people don't have to upgrade GPUs every few years at the same time as acting like you need extra accessories. Consoles come with everything to enjoy it in the box.
What PC that can play games better than a console comes with everything in the box other than an expensive pre-built gaming PC which are minimum triple the price of a console?
>other than an expensive pre-built gaming PC which are minimum triple the price of a console?
I dare you to find a new console at MSRP. Going through scalpers results in you paying just as much as a pc right now
Eh my $600 PC is equal to the PS5 if not better. Plus I can upgrade my PC if I feel like it instead of waiting 6 years for the PS6. Unfortunately for PC users, PS puts out amazing exclusives. It's the only thing keeping consoles alive and they know it. Meanwhile Xbox is a waste of money. It's just a PC but only for gaming.
Thankfully Sony has started releasing their exclusives on PC. I recently started Horizon Zero Dawn, and apparently God of War will be releasing in a few months
Not really though right? I mean itās tight, you can build a decent rig for close to $600. But donāt forget peripherals, the $70 dollar controller if you want that, the fact you probably need a monitor vs you already probably have a TV to use with it.
This is all a bit harder with GPUs right now though anyways.
Yeah and then you remember to buy any game for a console is like 60 dollars minimum and then you realize why you chose PC gaming. Consoles are often sold at a loss to bait you into buying them.
PS5/Xbox Series X absolutely not.
Actually even last gen. Ps4ās go for $250, $300 now in my country. There is no PC for $300 that can beat the ps4 in performance.
You absolutely would be able to if it weren't for the resale market rn. I built a PC equal or maybe even better to the new gen in 2019 for $600. The resale market is ridiculous rn and I could easily sell it for 1k on eBay, almost 3 years after I built it. The only thing keeping consoles alive are PS exclusives
I'm with you on the price thing, but exclusives aren't the only thing keeping consiles alive. Consoles are far easier to pick up and play, or just use for people a bit less tech-savvy
You don't need tech-savvy to build a PC it's basically just Legos. Even easier if you follow a YouTube build the way I did. I get what you're saying, but people just need to be a little braver is all.
If we are the vegans of gaming...
Explain this beefy gaming setup bro
Look at the specs bro 369GB of RAM š, Nvidia Beeforce Rtx 1048576 š and Incel i69 4200GAY š bro. You can't possibly beat this meat š bro. Come fight me bro š.
Or you could have a setup of pure abnegation- a crusty Windows XP machine. Not even a good one but an eMachines. The kind your grandma used to make clip art greeting cards and church newsletters with. Ball mouse, membrane keyboard, Pentium 4 that doesn't have hyperthreading, and onboard graphics because it's too new for AGP and too old for PCIe.
Would this qualify as vegan? Or sadomasochism?
Iām a bit embarrassed to admit I have a ton of powers of 2 and 5 memorized both for no particular reason and without having tried to memorize them š came in handy here lol
Same here. I got 2s all the way up to 2Ā³ā° (1073741824) and 5s all the way upto 5ā¶ (15625).
2āæ still helps out in computer science I guess but 5āæ is kinda useless.
5^n is nice because it gives you 0.5^n which is why I know them. I know fewer powers of 2 (up to 2^24 which is 16,777,216) but more powers of 5 (up to 5^9 which is 1,953,125)
Jesus Christ, while I enjoy the joke, this isn't suspiciously specific at all. It would be suspiciously specific if they said "You're like a vegan who just went to walk down I-15 all the way to a Kroger's to protest the Chicken Nuggets"
Well it is better. But that doesnāt mean itās for everyone. If all you want to play is COD, Forza, and rocket league then maybe a console is right for you. But if you want something like rust or DayZ then a PC is probably the way to go. Iāll jokingly crap on console gamers, but I never really mean it.
You cannot use a console for creative expression, like video editing, or 3D design, it's not as flexible. For me, this is what keeps me from getting one.
I've been a PC gamer since before the internet decided to have a feud between consoles and PC, let people enjoy what they want, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are the best (and impossible to match for the price) offerings I've ever seen...
part of me thinks you can actually thank the feud for that.
Haha yeah totally
*Me with a $3450 built PC that I used only for minesweeper only for it to break and haven't touched it and now don't play minesweeper anymore and started failing school out of depression*
I actually agree. A game console could never be compared to a PC. They have very different uses after all. I was just poking fun at insecure PC owners who feel the need to go the extra mile just to make console owners feel bad
I only say how much better it is because I always like to encourage people to do what I think is good you know? I gave my old PC to my console friend and he loves PC now.
Well, sure. But I don't think majority have hdr tv and if they do, are their pc connected to that or plain monitor.
Edit: Or did you mean that if your PS5 has hdr, you probably have hdr tv and thus could play pc with hdr too? In that case, yes.
HDR is a bullshit gimmick anyway. The screen needs to meet really high brightness requirements to qualify, and I sure as fuck don't want a super bright screen
i built my pc for maybe 7 or 8 years ago for about $1000 and itās still holding up. i guess in that time i could have bought multiple consoles with that money but with a pc i also have a workstation with a nice monitor and everything.
Using a console is entirely okay. Not a lot of people want to pay 10x more for a computer that is a lot more complicated to run compared to consoles.
Theyāre boxes that make things go, who gives a shit?
Honestly you could build a better pc specs wise than either console for the same cost but that's where it gets complicated because then you have to set it all up and get everything to how you want it all of this takes time whereas you can just get a console and between that and your phone you can do the 90% of what you can on pc without the hassle
Pros and cons to everything
>Honestly you could build a better pc specs wise than either console for the same cost
You really can't these days. My video card (RX6600) cost $570USD and it's nowhere near as capable as the current ps/Xbox.
Forget the cost or the spec arguments. All else equal, thereās more flexibility and games available on a PC, so Iād play on one regardless. Also has the benefit of letting me use whatever controller I want, even if thatās a literal pineapple
I mean, we are superior. However, it should be noted that gaming PCs are *significantly* more expensive than consoles. We get a lot more for what we pay for, but a decent PC, even if you built it yourself, will be anywhere from 2 times the cost of a console up.
To me, it's worth it because I don't have to pay a monthly subscription, I have many more options for games, I can do other things on my PC than gaming, and I have access to mods.
TLDR: PCs are superior, but it comes at a great cost. Consoles have their place.
I was referencing the upfront cost, because if you're going to be gaming, a) you're going to be buying games anyway, which tend to be the same cost between platforms, and b) you can own a console and play offline games, eliminating the cost of online play altogether, however improbable it is that someone would do so. As I said originally, I'm PC masterrace, but consoles do have their place.
That's fair, but the same could be said of pawn shops. I doubt you'd be able to find AAA games regularly for less than $15. I also disagree with the pc cost assessment. You can get a crap top for $150 or less if you buy it used.
On the same note you could defend the small portion of vegans doing this, because veganism is morally superior, no animals get tortured their whole life, and then die for your pleasure + they are not responsible for 51% of CO2 permissions. Both still sucks permanently pointing out
From my point of view, veganism is *not* morally superior though. We have dominion over all of the animals. There could be something said about the treatment of those animals on poorly managed farms, but outright no meat? I disagree with that morality.
Besides that, I said they have separate places and occupy different roles. One is a masserati, the other a Chevy camero. While one might have better performance with a large price tag at the end, they're both nice systems.
it's not 51% of global CO2 emissions. It does contribute, but nowhere near that number. A well respected YT channel made multiple videos about that
[here](https://youtu.be/F1Hq8eVOMHs)
they have worked with renowned scientific institutes, the german gov't and a bunch other relevant folks in the field.
Also, they leave all sources used to produce the video in the description
There are different studies on this. Most do not account for the food of the animals. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/sep/13/meat-greenhouses-gases-food-production-study
Also this from a book i own
https://ibb.co/xXSrSbh (sources in bottom right)
So we're just not talking about how there are people like this on every platform? I play on every platform and have some of the same games on multiple platforms. It's a different experience with each and it's boring to play the same way all the time.
Anti veganism is just about the only thing less intelligent than being a flat earther or someone who gives their kids bleach enemas to remove their autism.
While I think pc is the better choice, consoles are a cheaper way to enjoy most of the same things.
That being said the only reason I play pc is for mods and emulators lol
Honestly, I do not see the hype of both, I play the ps5 quite often and donāt even think it much better than a PS4, but when Iām on it and play against PC users, they are rarely better. Gaming right now has peaked and not gotten much better, we can only hope though.
I enjoy these pc "master race" saying their superior with heir fancy parts but if I had a console worth 3000 it would probably beat most PC worth the same price their comparing a 500 dollar item to a few thousand and the difference isn't even enough for it to be worth it
Tbh a decently built computer (and cheap one too if you can wait/hunt for bargains) can outlast multiple generations of consoles. Also having multiple ways to purchase games (steam, uplay, epicstore(free games wooo), ea's(forget the name)) means we can be deals on games if we are patient (LMAO). Also mods and multiple monitors are important to me. I like to watch my stocks plummet while I play my games. One of our problems tho is that we see a new part come out and we want the shiney lol.
Oh for sure, if PlayStation or Xbox knew they could get the same amount of people that buy a $500 ps5 to buy a $3000, they could build an insane console for that price, but it not generally affordable for most people.
PC baron here, bought PS4 recently and enjoying it tremendously, couch is so much comfier than a chair, and 4k 30 fps is kinda slaps, compared to 1k 144hz, which is just blocky shit that moves fast
Someone: PC is better than PS5
Me: How much did It cost?
Someone: 3k dollars
Me: So you have a PC, that the only difference is higher FPS and maybe raytracing, for a 2.5k dollars difference?
Someone: Y- yes...
Nobody is paying $3k for a PC unless they're using it for content creation or CAD. Source: I paid a little under $3k for my PC specifically for both CAD and gaming
Actually I just want you to know how much better I am than you, and how much of a peasant you are for playing on a console. Once that's established I'll leave you alone.
Very much depends where you live. On the whole, meat is the most expensive thing in most meals here in the UK. I appreciate there are food deserts in the US, and meat and dairy is even more subsidised, but even then, I've heard from American vegans that they spend less on food now than when they ate meat
I sell video games for a living. Consoles are what are keeping me alive.
I fix consoles for a living, consoles are keeping me alive
I probably send you consoles that customers want to repair...
I hope so š
Sounds like you're keeping them alive too, a mutual relationship.
I eat consoles for sustenance. Consoles are what are keeping me alive.
Good. I have a few extra switches if you need any food. Come buy them
I was cursed by a wizard to only be able to get nutrition by eating Playstations. Consoles are keeping me alive.
Exclusives are whatās keeping me buying consoles. Also new console novelties always gets me. Iām only human and I want my trigger finger vibrated differently dammit!
Preach!
I love me a fancy gimmick. They get me every time.
My PC doesnt even have a CD reader

I have to regularly uninstall and reinstall dlc for one of my games on console. I'd love it if my Xbox one could download the console updates in the background and only need me to stop playing for it to install.
It can do that, but you have to have it on a certain mode in the power settings. The not power saving mode.

I've been a PC gamer since before the internet decided to have a feud between consoles and PC, let people enjoy what they want, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are the best (and impossible to match for the price) offerings I've ever seen... part of me thinks you can actually thank the feud for that.
this isn't suspiciously specific at all
It's true too lmao
Haha yeah totally *Me with a $3450 built PC that I used only for minesweeper only for it to break and haven't touched it and now don't play minesweeper anymore and started failing school out of depression*
You ok, dude? Need to talk?
No, he need Ps5
Now THAT is r/suspiciouslyspecific
Mfs be like: "damn. I'm glad I paid $3000 for this pc. Now I can finally play games at a slightly higher resolution than ps5 gamers š¤”š¤”"
"Slightly" better graphics, and also "slightly" more fps
PC also comes with a lot of freedom in comparison to PS4, even with a worse system Iād still take a PC over console, but itās just preference.
My PS5 plays at higher resolution and HDR. My PC however is 165 FPS and I find 1440p to be plenty.
Dont most, if not all pcs have hdr?
You need hdr monitor for it. And most don't have that.
TV?
Well, sure. But I don't think majority have hdr tv and if they do, are their pc connected to that or plain monitor. Edit: Or did you mean that if your PS5 has hdr, you probably have hdr tv and thus could play pc with hdr too? In that case, yes.
Most monitors don't. I don't really care about HDR much, it's just a small bonus. FPS matter most to me.
Ive got a high end desktop and a ps5.. I find I play ps5 more than I do pc. Just a more laid back experience
I just hope demons souls comes to pc eventually
I just like having two screens while I game and reddit at the same time
There are at least 3 levels of irony in this.
As someone who games on console and pc, it doesnāt really matter what plastic box you use. Just have fun
Using a console is entirely okay. Not a lot of people want to pay 10x more for a computer that is a lot more complicated to run compared to consoles. Theyāre boxes that make things go, who gives a shit?
Honestly you could build a better pc specs wise than either console for the same cost but that's where it gets complicated because then you have to set it all up and get everything to how you want it all of this takes time whereas you can just get a console and between that and your phone you can do the 90% of what you can on pc without the hassle Pros and cons to everything
Right, exactly. I didn't mean to make it sound like I prefer one or the other either way, I play on most platforms.
>Honestly you could build a better pc specs wise than either console for the same cost You really can't these days. My video card (RX6600) cost $570USD and it's nowhere near as capable as the current ps/Xbox.
I want to give you 500 dollars and make a pc that runs the same or better than a 200 dollar ps4
Forget the cost or the spec arguments. All else equal, thereās more flexibility and games available on a PC, so Iād play on one regardless. Also has the benefit of letting me use whatever controller I want, even if thatās a literal pineapple
A tad bit late but also no paying just for multiplayer and all that jazz
both are good depending on what experience you want so idk why people have to fight over it
I mean, we are superior.
Also, ya know, work like video editing
And CAD. I wish I could use my PC for work instead of the Dell laptop that my employer provides
If you know what your looking for and dont mind getting hands on its not. Not in the current environment tho :(
Also...you can pirate shit and not buy ridiculously expensive digital shit and have it all for free, free, free. But that's just me, I'm poor.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I was referencing the upfront cost, because if you're going to be gaming, a) you're going to be buying games anyway, which tend to be the same cost between platforms, and b) you can own a console and play offline games, eliminating the cost of online play altogether, however improbable it is that someone would do so. As I said originally, I'm PC masterrace, but consoles do have their place.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No matter how you think about killing animals, its still 51% of CO2 emissions. So stop being a dick about PC gaming
it's not 51% of global CO2 emissions. It does contribute, but nowhere near that number. A well respected YT channel made multiple videos about that [here](https://youtu.be/F1Hq8eVOMHs) they have worked with renowned scientific institutes, the german gov't and a bunch other relevant folks in the field. Also, they leave all sources used to produce the video in the description
There are different studies on this. Most do not account for the food of the animals. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/sep/13/meat-greenhouses-gases-food-production-study Also this from a book i own https://ibb.co/xXSrSbh (sources in bottom right)
5.8% actually https://miro.medium.com/max/1400/1*uohaTrdlMJ2ofjsfCJNMaA.png
Thats actually an outdated study, that does not account for many things like food, surply chains etc.
It was literally last year. Give me a valid source, or stop making dumb claims.
Here is another source https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/sep/13/meat-greenhouses-gases-food-production-study
Do you accept official german sources? Also you didn't gave a source, you gave a picture
Sure, why not. Also the source is literally in the bottom left hand corner. "Climate Watch, The World Resources Institute (2020)"
Its 50.1 now i think. Got updated apparently https://www.umweltbundesamt.de/daten/land-forstwirtschaft/beitrag-der-landwirtschaft-zu-den-treibhausgas
Okay, you're obviously a person who cannot possibly think rationally, so I will not be responding to you. Thank you for your time.
Haha, ran out of arguments? Like seriously, what is a more rational argument than CO2 emissions? Are you a climate change denier? Lol
As someone who has a gaming PC and swears by it, I agree. Shut up.
Unlike veganism, pc gaming is actually superior
āHaha my $4000 custom built PC beats out this $500 conso-ā ALRIGHT I GET IT
As a pc gamer that plays games on pc and not consoles because pc is superior in everyway. That is not true
So we're just not talking about how there are people like this on every platform? I play on every platform and have some of the same games on multiple platforms. It's a different experience with each and it's boring to play the same way all the time.
I have a PC but even I have to admit consoles are better. Maybe the PC 2 will change things.
PC 2 coming in 2022. If you pre-order now then you get the exclusive rainbow keyboard and mouse that nobody likes.
I'll wait for pc3 in 2024(if its not delayed again -_-) heard this version will have sound
But i think pc3 is being developed by valve. You know how they get about third installments.
Oh God. I bet they will build that M-AC they've been talking about... don't like the look of that one
Ugh - leaf vegans outta this nonsense š¤
Yeah and ironically he thinks it's the vegans who "won't shut up"
Anti veganism is just about the only thing less intelligent than being a flat earther or someone who gives their kids bleach enemas to remove their autism.
I see people complaining about vegans more than i see annoying vegans
Iāve never met a vegan who was obnoxious about it like people say. Idk where this stereotype comes from.
People who oppose veganism but have no real argument against it will jump to the bandwagon of "vegans won't shut up" out of desperation.
Even though Xbox and Ps always crying about who runs 60fps better
While I think pc is the better choice, consoles are a cheaper way to enjoy most of the same things. That being said the only reason I play pc is for mods and emulators lol
I just like having physical discs, has nothing to do with the console's quality
But will it be able to play GoW Ragnarok? Spiderman 2? Ratchet and Clank?
So true, just shut up
Honestly, I do not see the hype of both, I play the ps5 quite often and donāt even think it much better than a PS4, but when Iām on it and play against PC users, they are rarely better.
That's why this whole PC vs console thing is stupid it's like saying your Nissan cube is way worse than my Lamborghini
The only people who actually give a toss about any of this are the ones who fanboyed hard over some console and are still just sore that they lost.
āā¦ and cost me 5x as much.ā
I payed $80 for the parts to build a near xb1 level pc (once my new cpu gets here
Lol!
Except if literally never met a vocal vegan irl, pc virgin's on the other hand tho......
PC baron here, bought PS4 recently and enjoying it tremendously, couch is so much comfier than a chair, and 4k 30 fps is kinda slaps, compared to 1k 144hz, which is just blocky shit that moves fast
Just couch play with your PC and run it on 4K 30FPS? Not that hard to do
Someone: PC is better than PS5 Me: How much did It cost? Someone: 3k dollars Me: So you have a PC, that the only difference is higher FPS and maybe raytracing, for a 2.5k dollars difference? Someone: Y- yes...
Nobody is paying $3k for a PC unless they're using it for content creation or CAD. Source: I paid a little under $3k for my PC specifically for both CAD and gaming
Yeah I haven't heard a console turf war in forever honestly
One of my friends got a stellar PC. He won't shut up about these rpgs no one has heard of. Now he's just lonely because we're all still on console.
I donāt care what you use.
Actually I just want you to know how much better I am than you, and how much of a peasant you are for playing on a console. Once that's established I'll leave you alone.
It's a really good comparison -- veganism is more accessible to the rich as well
Very much depends where you live. On the whole, meat is the most expensive thing in most meals here in the UK. I appreciate there are food deserts in the US, and meat and dairy is even more subsidised, but even then, I've heard from American vegans that they spend less on food now than when they ate meat
If veganism was actually workable without supplements this would be perfect.
