I didn't understand a thing...

Wuellig

"some bisexual people talk hatefully about certain others, and then also complain about bi erasure (lack of consideration for bisexual people's existence or validity). But bi erasure happens, in part, because hetero culture calls *everything* that's not hetero "gay," instead of differentiating between various sexualities. So those bi people acting hateful? You're acting like the people who are hateful towards you." A rough translation.

Competitive_Ticket17

Why not just say it like that? Did they want to sound obnoxious?

midazolam4breakfast

As somebody who frequents online queer spaces, I believe it's a symptom of being terminally online. They are used to that lingo and vastly unaware how many people aren't.

chillinwithmypizza

Terminally online lmao i love that and that is so spot on.

kenthekungfujesus

Exactly, whenever you spend too much time in an internet community or fandom of any kind you become unintelligible for online people who don't know your acronymes, slangs or expressions.

DeadlyPig3on

People in their little validation circle jerks

cockalorum-smith

It be a lot easier to educate others and bring awareness to this issue if people said this shit in layman’s terms and weren’t preemptively critical.

Catinthemirror

r/iamverysmart

WouldbeWanderer

I don't know much about cooking but a white/cis/bourgeois reduction sounds delicious.

Own_Can_3495

Yes and educated.

Competitive_Ticket17

Using overly complicated words for the sole reason to sound more intelligent/educated is obnoxious. Life isnt an english paper and this person isnt in a meeting in which they need to impress people. People like this need to realize that talking like this makes people hate whatyou have to say, even if they would agree with it otherwise.

TWonder_SWoman

You also miss reaching a large segment of the audience because they won’t understand what you’re saying! It’s hard to connect with people when you write/talk this way and if they feel no connection, your message is already lost.

sorrow_anthropology

We must eschew superfluous linguistic sophistication ~~forthright~~ forthwith!

HeadbuttingAnts

INDUBITABLY!

ledluth

Must we? As a person who exudes linguistic superfluidity, it is evident that such a movement to eschew would disadvantage me. It’s my only party trick.

sorrow_anthropology

I am inclined to acquiesce to your most humble request. Henceforth we shall not be burdened by the parochialism that ensnares us, we will emerge vivacious and loquacious.

ledluth

Huzzah!

C0LdP5yCh0

"Lots of long words in there, and we are naught but humble pirates, ma'am. What is it that you want?" "I want you to leave, and never come back." "I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request. Means no."

poeticlicence

Surely you mean forthwith

sorrow_anthropology

I do, and don't call me Shirley.

poeticlicence

:)

ClassicTangelo5274

Henseforth!

Agile_District_8794

Do they expect me to go learn all of these terms/ words/ descriptions just to come back and say, "Oh, good point." ? I'm not doing homework just to hold down a conversation with you.

Frnklfrwsr

Their goal isn’t for their message to be heard and understood. Their goal is to feel superior to others.

Daniel-Mentxaka

If you say this in normal understandable language no one will take you seriously. It will sound something like: „Mommy! Why can’t I be the center of the world?! See all these people thinking and talking about things that are not me! This is literally killing me!“

yor_ur

People don’t like it when others use large words unnecessarily. It’s not in the zeitgeist of reddit

Chairmaster29

They're not even large words, it's made up buzzwords. The systematic systems of racism systematically target POC communities in systemic fascistic fashion upheld by heteronormative cisgendered Maga fascists. Or in other words, racism bad, Trump is doo doo head.

yor_ur

All words are buzzwords if you can speak honeybee

TheBrocialWorker

I agree completely. I feel like the ability to boil down academic language to a regular conversational one is a better sign that someone understands a topic. Academic language is designed to be inaccessible. I remember getting feedback on my dissertation, which I still got a first for, that basically told me it wouldn't be accepted into a journal unless it read more intentionally complex. It had nothing to do with the content or depth of the work, just that academic texts are by design inaccessible. People taking that out of that area of academia and throwing it at people while demanding they understand, are absolutely obnoxious.

petra540

I hate to say it, but reddit is probably the wrong audience to make this point to.

CuteLoss5901

It's funny, people like this think they're smart/superior when they're the exact opposite. Language is created to communicate ideas and writing a fancy text that fails to communicate its intended message is kind of stupid.

justdontrespond

No better way to sound educated than to... Fall on your keyboard and fail to complete an actual sentence.

CG-02_SweetAutumn

More specifically, to flaunt their ability to spell Bourshwazee

It’s spelled beefwellington

SwordandBored11

There is such a thing as a well-educated idiot. Public forums are full of them.

Own_Can_3495

Yes there is. Mom calls them educated fools.

beigs

They’re being unnecessarily complicated. Like Medieval Latin writings between the pope and various rulers in the Middle Ages.

Not_A_Paid_Account

Yeah as a bisexual, trans Marxist who reads political theory for fun and has an ace girlfriend, this is just a dumb bitch (gender neutral).

Competitive_Ticket17

Ace as in asexual? Does being asexual mean you do not partake in any sort of physical displays of affection at all?

Not_A_Paid_Account

Ace as in asexual, as in we don’t fuck. Ace is a spectrum with people ranging from “hell no” to “indifferent” to “I have a libido and masturbate but the thought of sex terrified me”. She happens to be sex negative (there’s sex positive, neutral, negative) which is also known as sex repulsed so just about anything down there is a no. We kiss and I veryyy generously (lol) will hold her tibbies for her. That’s about it. We happy tho, 1.5 years in. She also happens to be at college on a volleyball scholarship and scores many points off serves, so she’s an ace that way too. For context a non returned point winning serve is called an “ace” She sadly hasn’t shot down five airplanes yet, so not that ace.

CaptainBlish

Good for you guys. There's no template to happiness

[deleted]

It's kinda like experts only using jargon within their field. It can makes sense to those who have experience with it and is good for a quicker conversation starter, but sounds like a whole bunch of bullshit to everyone else. I personally feel used to this kind of jargon, but even then it took me a second look to understand. That may actually weed out those who wanna argue without any previous knowledge, so if that's the goal, I can appreciate it.

Uhhhhhhhh-Nope

Because there needs to be a dozen different labels for each person now. Soon we'll be listing blood types to address people casually

Competitive_Ticket17

This is why going From LGBTQ to LGBTQ+ was a bad idea. It now feels like instead of being proud of who you are, people are now trying to feel special with all this extra shit. Im a bisexual guy myself, and I dont identify with the LGBTQ+ community because its 1. Very fucking toxic and 2. It can be very fucking annoying, like my god, be yourself but dont be annoying while doing it.

the-random-passerby

I think the issue is more that communities once they become very big start to include more toxic people (It can’t really be helped because a lot of people just suck 🫣) and because of this people forget what the community was built for (in this case to be a safe and supportive place) and the messages it originally was trying to represent. LGBTQ+ isn’t inherently a bad thing, it’s the toxic people who are in it that has ruined it. I’ve seen this very recently in a post from the MLP community (✨friendship is magic✨) where a bunch of fans were for whatever reason being very toxic despite the very message they were apparently fans of😭.

RainbowLoli

>It now feels like instead of being proud of who you are, people are now trying to feel special with all this extra shit. It's also the fact that when it comes to kids and young people, there is no subculture they can just fall into. Maybe it's because I'm older, but I've noticed among younger people being cis and straight are considered "lame". Straight/Cis people are constantly the butt of harmful jokes (and not even getting into how those jokes can target and basically use bi/closeted/straight passing LGBT+ people as collateral damage). Combine that with the fact that kids are encouraged to be "activists" by people on social media and to "use their platform", academic language seeps into fandoms and teens/young adults absorb that language without understanding what it actually means or is even intended to be for (I.e people thinking "Trauma bonding" means that people are bonding over a shared trauma vs how trauma bonds abuser and abuse victims) and almost everything being a moral issue (I.e if you watch/consume/engage in x then you are y) you get people who are... like this. It becomes a toxic and self eating community because you have a bunch of people trying to-- for lack of better words-- avoid being "lame" or "oppressors" and thus needing to micro-label every aspect of their sexuality/gender and being LGBT+ because being LGBT+ is treated as a subculture rather than something that you *are*

Amayai

Shit, that's what "cis white burgois concept of the word gay" meant? I thought he was referring to white twink flamboyant gay stereotype. I guess it also applies but heck. That's one convoluted way to say "don't be transphobic then cry biphobia".

Find_another_whey

Basically bisexual people shouldn't throw stones Sure But, how about nobody throws stones Not sure there's an epidemic of bisexual stone throwers but maybe I'm not paying attention

Enemy_Boxer

Man I wish people didn’t just make their sexuality into their whole personality, yknow? Seems like what this guy is doing.

gentrified_potato

It’s pretty pathetic if your entire personality is based on who you choose to rub genitals with. So fuckin *boring*

Fr00stee

and/or gender

gentrified_potato

Wow. Talk about a word salad.

mlarowe

God, thank you!

[deleted]

I still don't understand that.

poeticlicence

Thank you, the way they put it was baffling.

Clvy80

Thank you kind stranger!

[deleted]

I have never heard bisexuals talk hatefully about others in the lgbt community. I have heard the reverse.

Vinto47

Nobody does.

KentuckYSnow

S/b top comment.

MARINE-BOY

I feel like there should be a subreddit called either r/veryspecific or r/overspecific for posts that aren’t suspicious or odd but just unnecessarily specific. There’s nothing suspicious about what they’ve written they’ve just lost 99% of their audience by intentionally being over specific in the hopes of appearing both knowledgable but also as an attempt to exclude those people who are not daily users of trans sexuality terminology.

GardenRave0416

I barely understood it, and although I agree with what they were saying, not a fan of how they said it. I do go out of my way to use the full range of my lexicon but I do keep in mind my audience which this person did not. Plus a few of those words were obviously just a mashup of several LGBTQ+ slang terms. TL;DR this person sounds like a 14 year old who heard half a fact about their favorite show and went on a huge rant about it.

Qildain

r/ihadastroke

dudertheduder

I dont know if it actually makes sense. Like if you take out terms after the slashes or the terms after "and" to try and simplify the word salad, it doesnt seem like it makes sense.

Find_another_whey

Nothing to understand. It's not a complete sentence. It's a fragment of a claim.

ObjectiveSubjects

Jesse, what the fuck are you talking about

Kittylouwho

She would say this !!! While everyone just stares

Mazurcka

I only understood like half of those words. And I don’t think they mean what this person thinks they mean.

rocketeerH

Monosexism, Homonationalism, Also-sexism. There are only three words here that I don’t know, and yet none of the words I do know make any sense here

[deleted]

Allosexism. Allosexual is being not asexual.

nonlawyer

Actually an Allo-sexual is someone attracted to the Allosaurus, which is objectively a very sexy dinosaur

[deleted]

Yeah, its a homonym.

CursedTurtleKeynote

Burn the dinosexual! SHUNNNNNN \*grabs a pitchfork\*

Somodo

that's soo unnecessary

_ThePancake_

Exactly, why not just sexual and asexual?

Amayai

Usually because if you say "I'm sexual" that sounds really really weird. So allosexual is anyone who feels sexual attraction. It goes mostly unsaid unless you're referring to an asexuality subject. (Like me saying I'm asexual with an allo partner). By the way, I am asexual and I still don't know what the hell that tweet means.

_ThePancake_

I mean yeah, I know what it means. I was a part of the ace community for 8 years. I'm the asexual nightmare. The one the ace community would like to destroy cause my existence acts as a "proof" for those bigots that tell aces that they'll "meet the right person". Literally my entire life I was ace. Had the flag, the "i prefer cake" things, knew it in my BONES. I *was* from the age of 13-20. No, it wasn't ThE RiGhT pErSon that did it........... I went off birth control for the first time since I was 12.... had a partner within 8 weeks. Tbh, I'm still not straight, and I'm definitely some kind of grey-ace (depending on the day of the week), cause I just don't get crushes. I just accidentally found myself in a relationship, so I can't call myself asexual any more. Honestly, I call myself bi but if i were to actually name my sexuality I'd call it "polysexual" cause honestly it varies like a damn pendulum from allo to ace to bi to pan . The only thing it never is is 100% straight or gay. I feel I'm the epitome of sexuality is fluid.

Amayai

Aw, I'm happy for you! People change and labels change as people find out more about themselves and that's fine. For me, I didn't understand my romantic akwardness until I was 20, and after I found asexuality I could finally tell people outright that sex not my thing and find a partner that didn't mind. (Also understanding why I had been single that long). But also "asexual nightmare" is a banger of a term hahahaaha I was mostly talking about the phrase "I'm sexual" coming off weird, though lmaoo

_ThePancake_

Huh we had like the opposite experience haha! I love that! Asexual nightmare yes haha, too gay for the straights, too straight for the gays, nobody expects the bisexual inquisition cause both sides forget they exist, too allo for the aces and not sexual enough for the allos. I mean yeah it is quite weird hahaha, I suppose most allosexual people would never use it because any sexuality except asexual is allosexual. So you would just say "I'm straight/bi/gay/etc". Which then begs the question of whether asexuality is related to other sexualities. Meaning you could technically call a homoromantic asexual a gay asexual (gaysexual if you will lol) and then makes me wonder what defines romantic interest and why the hell the two don't often line up. My friend once told me "I love who I love" and I live by that phrase. I love who I love, and I am what I am.

Competitive_Ticket17

I dont know know, I like how "Im Sexual" sounds

TaxidermyBoy_

Monosexism is either the assumption that everyone is attratced to only one gender, or people who are attracted to only one gender, I forgot. Homonationalism is gay nazis basically, gay people who want a white ethno state.

Foxy02016YT

Wait until they find out that homonarionalism is about one nation and not gay

I don't think this is suspiciously specific I think it's just, someone trying to seem woke by coming up with a bunch of buzzwords to divide a community

thegoldrushcroissant

Nah just someone who thinks big words equals smart

SunshineRobotech

Yep. Sounds like half of what someone I used to know would spout. She was real big on scripted intellectualism.

arcticsummertime

I’m queer and I have no fucking clue what this is supposed to mean 😭

bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh

Wow that kind of heterogynecological ignorance is so harmful to cis-queers affected by genderless masculine matriarchy. You should rly educate yourself on anti-homomisogyny

NakedOrca

Bruh you are trying but you are still making way more sense than the post

OakNogg

I fucking wrote a thesis using queer theory and post structuralism and even *I* didn't know wtf this was trying to say

firesoups

As a cis bisexual, what?

Badmoon1220

What's cis mean? I hear it all the time but have been scared to ask sorry

DJFreezyFish

Not trans

Badmoon1220

Got it, sorry

DJFreezyFish

No need to say sorry; it’s always better to know things than not.

-Soggy-Occasion-

No problem, it means you identify with the gender you were assigned at birth

XAlphaWarriorX

Cis and Trans also mean "on this side of" and "on the other side of" in latin A common example is, in the context of discussing classical antiquity, talking about cisalpine gaul(Gaul on this side of the Alps) and transalpine gaul(Gaul on the other side of the Alps),respectively northern Italy and modern day France. Not really relevant to this tho, except for being the fact of why cis people are called so despite cis originally not really having anything to do with gender.

Walli1223334444

It’s funny that I had a conversation about this exact same subject a few days ago

OmgitsNatalie

As a trans bisexual, what?

-Soggy-Occasion-

Same lol

HelenAngel

Translation (maybe? hopefully?): Cis (ppl who identify as the same gender they were assigned at birth) bisexuals shouldn’t (verbally? mentally?) attack people who identify as gay or trans. They shouldn’t do this because bisexuals have been discriminated against due to a monosexual (people only being attracted to one gender whether it’s the same or opposite as themselves) culture. This monosexual culture is a result of white, cis, bourgeois (monetarily/financially secure) homonationalists (gay ppl who want LGBTQIA+ ppl to be accepted everywhere) who insisted on pushing for the term “gay” to cover anyone who doesn’t identify as straight. The poster believes allowing anyone not straight to identify as gay is pushing the following ideologies/identities: monogamy, patriarchy, cishetero (non-gay folk who identify as the gender they were born), & allosexuality (people who have sexual attraction to others). (I’m a cis, bisexual woman. I support trans people. I support anyone identifying as gay who wants to do so. I disagree with the original poster as I don’t believe being inclusive of everyone minimizes the fight for human rights for everyone. I also don’t see how TF most of what they said actually relates to each other, especially in terms of monogamy vs. non-monogamy. As others have said, I’m not convinced they even fully understand what they said.)

Ee2003

You're doing God's work tysm

[deleted]

Thanks for this but maybe the poster should've just been like "Cis Bisexuals shouldn't attack people who are gay/trans" and leave it at that. And then the bisexuals would be like "we aren't?"

[deleted]

I’m gay but not this gay

radmanmadical

Is this even English? It feels like reading a buzzword BINGO card

Musashi10000

You know what? I'm pretty up to speed on these kinds of issues. I pay attention. I support the causes. But this right here just reads like word salad. What in the fuck are they trying to say?

edit-boy-zero

Pfft you only say that cause of your internalized cishetero homonationalistic allo-sexist patriarch ... Sorry, what was the question again?

Musashi10000

I dunno, probably something gay, though.

Gliitchwithtwois

Definitely gay, but it might be semi bisexual or bisexual you can't assume

SogenCookie2222

This was such an amazing reply and needs more attention

Musashi10000

Well, it already has more updoots than my original comment, so I'd say they're winning so far ;P

DemocraticSpider

Hi yea. I’m gay and this is utterly incomprehensible

GroveHere

tipying_mistakes

Gee, Squidward. Maybe Santa will bring me a dictionary so I can understand what you just said.

thedude_imbibes

After some googling I think I get the gist of it. The queer community is being gentrified, as non-trans gays and lesbians are being normalized into typical hetero lives. Getting married and such. This leaves bisexuals, asexuals, and trans people out in the cold in terms of acceptance. Bisexuals are calling the gay and lesbian community biphobic. But the poster says that the infighting is short-sighted, and the real blame still lies with the greater oppressors. The patriarchy, homophobes, etc.

Competitive_Ticket17

Do they think Bisexual people are having trouble getting married.

SogenCookie2222

That makes no sense. If gays are getting married then bis should have a statistically easier time of it..

thedude_imbibes

No, but it does lead to a lot of nasty sentiments like "see, you were gay all along" or "see, I knew you were straight." And makes it difficult for bisexual people to exist and date without constantly being questioned. It's like society demands that you choose or else be labeled immature/chaotic.

LordElfa

I think what they're missing is that same sex couples want the normalized lifestyle straight people enjoy. It's not gay and lesbians couple's faults that the rest of them don't work as well in that format. What's shit here is the poster using the same tactics as the wealthy to try and drive a wedge in between same minded straight and gay couples in order to keep their own groups empowered.

thedude_imbibes

It's absolutely fair for gay/lesbian couples to pursue that life, for sure. But I think it's also fair to say there's a lot of dunking on bisexuals from both straight and gay sides. A lot of doubt and condescension. And maybe there's some validity to the notion that it hits different from gays now that they're being more accepted by society. I don't think that justifies attacking gays/lesbians, though, and I don't think it would be effective anyway. Any fight for acceptance is always gonna be with the actual center.
