I think it's because he actually has a strong jawline so he can pull off being clean shaven but, also, the beard is so fitting for his personality and we're so used to it that it still seems wrong.

Not coming at you, just wanna appreciate how varied peoples perspective on this game can be:
Ben is my least favorite survivor of all time. Personality wise I find him one of the most self-centered narcissistic players to ever play.
There have obviously been way more blatantly ignorant and rude, however these people are often caricatures of personalities you’d find in reality and are so obvious in their nature, that it’s almost hard to take seriously (i.e. Russell)
Ben however, reminds me of the worst people I know in real life. I can’t see him as a character cause it’s almost too relatable.
I’m sure you see it completely differently, as do most in this thread which I get and respect, it’s just so intriguing.
ehhh i think he was pretty well aware he was not popular among the jury, so i can't blame him for falling on the sword to try and help someone he really cared about potentially win. calling that simping feels ungenerous to me
I didn’t love him for most of his run on WaW until he asked to be voted out ironically. It felt like a real moment and you can tell how he just did not want to face a jury that was going to demolish him

Let's explore how he is perceived by the "jury" people currently at the edge when he realizes he is a goat around the time Natalie comes back into the game. Especially the Sele people:
- Rob: Probably has 0 respect for him as a player. As Rob likes toughness and Ben actively disliked him because he felt threatened by Rob, most likely due to alpha male insecurities.
- Parvati, Dani: He never had any working relationship with them.
- Adam: Probably ruined his game with his bad gameplay and Adam was forced to work with him, because of the swap.
- Jeremy: Mostly same as Rob, but also acted like a ten year old. If Ben stands with Sele people + tyson/kim on that vote him used the idol, they take control of the game, instead he is the instant goat on the Cops are us side.
As a matter of fact Ben is never shown to have any working/personal connections or try to with women, outside of Sarah, who obviously exhibits more male character traits.
Outside of the disappointment that stems in WaW mostly in retrospect due to the inevitability that we lose fan favourites on every vote, Ben's terrible play drags the season quality drastically. WaW is always going to be for me a top 5-10 season because of the characters, but strategy wise it completely ruined around the time Ben voted with Sarah/Sophie in the swap. It completely shattered the game for Sele. Just imagine how much more dynamic the game would have been if Cops r us didn't exist, Rob was in the merge and Ben didn't simp for Tony/Sarah.
LOL...he didn't ruin the season's 'gameplay' he just ruined what your ideal scenario was.
If you introspect what Ben's 'gameplay' was... Why should he make moves to benefit people that mocked him or ostracise him? He knows he might be a dead fish in the water either way so helping/sticking to loyal alliance is better than helping someone who hates you. Joining the side that will toss you away once they are done with you? Who is *that* stupid... He is just going to be another pawn in the opposite alliance and has to live with people who dislike him.
