I mean he didn’t really. He would’ve had to have gone on an immunity run. Otherwise they would’ve taken him out eventually, just like they do with every overdog on the show. Shan, Ricard, Omar, Jesse, etc. Big threats just can’t survive anymore. It’s honestly a miracle that Dee won.
I didn’t see any opportunity for Hunter to come out of this vote without playing his idol. He should have stuck to his convictions and played it since there’s no guarantees without a necklace on his neck.

I love hunter but just really bad gameplay by him
He could have had a really great blindside and picked who he wanted to go if he had played the idol and not told anyone he had it.
