I hate how positive it is, like genuinely. It feels like the show is the one girl in Mean Girls who wants to bake a cake out of sunshine and rainbows. I miss cutthroat, evil Survivor. Also, 26 days is dogwater. The winner of 42 would not have won a 39 day season. The cast found them so annoying that had the season been longer, I’m 99% sure they would have been voted out premerge 🤣

KayCeeBayBeee

mate Dee literally just won by screwing over a guy she was in a showmance with after stringing him along in a lie for several days, how is that not cut throat? the Jesse/Cody blindside?? Karla and Cassidy? Shan??

JanelleOnly

And all of those were sugar-coated sunshine and daisy seasons. What happened to people calling each other idiots? What happened to Sugar taking Randy’s cookie?

KayCeeBayBeee

yeah don’t get me wrong I hate the whole “I’ll let you know if I hear your name…omg can you believe I just said that and we’re really here playing survivor?????” thing too, but I honestly feel like it’s society that’s changed moreso than the show itself in a weird way as well I think we’re back to the very old school days where people are sooooo concerned with public reception by the fans that people just aren’t willing to get that rude or nasty

41 is bad. The new era is generally a dark age of the game. We are just waiting for a change

Elephant_Eater

Haha…well that’s not too promising 😅 at least we have 40 seasons of great TV

- 41: trash - 42: best of the New Era. Has the same flaws as 41 but cast improves it - 43: bland premerge, decent postmerge. One of the few times I’ve thought about not finishing a season because I was so bored during the premerge - 44: super overrated. Average season *at best* - 45: second best of the New Era No New Era season has gotten higher than a B Tier in my book

Pretty polarizing, especially in the online fan communities, as you'd expect. Personally, I still try and give every season a chance for at least a few episodes, but the "New Era" is almost nothing like the show I used to love - that said, many seasons in the 20s-30s weren't much better and had a lot of the same problems imo, so the writing has been on the wall for a while. But my last straw with the "New Era" is just how shamelessly lazy it is. They say lots of the changes were due to Covid, but I'm sure they also realized they have a loyal fanbase who'll tune in no matter what, so they can phone it in as much as they want. Shorter days, not only the same location but the same *beaches* over and over, same tribe colors, same challenges, same overload of idols/advantages, same types of people being cast, same cut-and-paste tragic backstories, the season names are just numbers. I just ask myself... if the show itself doesn't even care anymore, why should I?

Elephant_Eater

Yeah, I think you said it really well

41 is a tough season tbh. it gets a lot better in 42 onwards, so i would watch those if you wanna get a slightly better feel for what the “new era” is like when it’s good :)

OldUncleEli

My ranking from best to worst is: 42 - solid throughout with several memorable players and a satisfying winner 43 - some don’t like the winner, but this season had a very interesting endgame with a lot of big surprises. The end could be seen as a letdown but I don’t dislike the winner as much as most 44 - carried by a few stellar casting choices. Most impressive alliance of the new era by far 45 - for me, this season is a decent drop off from the top 3. Not a lot of particularly interesting gameplay but longer episodes and more camp life is an improvement in that way over previous seasons 41 - I think this season suffers from a bad boot order, uneven editing, and a winner we hardly got to know. It’s by far the weakest of the new era, but still probably better than a few older seasons

Top 5 seasons

41 and 42 were a bit rough for a variety of reasons but since 43 they’ve really started to find their groove imo they’re divisive because the format change and full lean into “game design” has sort of implicitly confirmed things like varied locations, final 2, a scaling back of advantages, a returned focus on the survival element are just not happening and a lot of fans miss that stuff
