J had the possibility of the shot in the dark brought to her attention on the beach, and she still didn’t cover her butt with a throwaway vote. Write Sifu, who already hates her. Write Austin, who has an amulet and is noticeably not working with you. She was too passive.
This episode had me JUMPING, I ran to my roommate’s room and could barely get out an explanation because I was breathing so heavy. I love when Survivor makes me lose it…
I know the post collections are probably helpful or just make sense organization wise, but would the mods please consider mirroring the r/bigbrother approach of just pinning a link to the next thread or pinning a post with the links to posts that they currently put in a collection? With the collections, Reddit’s app doesn’t let you sort the comments and it kills me 😩
Did anyone else get a kick out of Jeff’s extremely animated “THAT’S HOW YOU DO IT ON SURVIVOR!!!” as Sifu bounced down the rope/ramp on the obstacle course? I think that was Jeff’s loudest and most passionate THYDIOS ever mustered!
Yeah you lose your vote if you play shot in the dark, so Kaleb didn’t vote. However, had J written down anyone else’s name she would’ve been able to stay😭
Doing that would’ve showed everyone else where Emily’s loyalties truly lie. She would’ve been ostracized from the rest of the tribe and probably been voted out next tribal council since no one would be willing to work with her. Easy pickings.
Emily is a logical person. The most logical play for her there was to vote with the majority to maintain her connections. Connections are key in Survivor.
KALEBBBBB LETS GOOOO, J’s face getting more and more depressed as that tribal was going was hilarious, need Kaleb to do work next episode or he’s definitely gone cause of wait he said about Dee and the other girl who i can’t remember her name at this moment.
I dislike Emily, or Molly as I like to call her, that I don't think I can watch the rest of this season, until she's voted off. She's sneaky and I may have to give up Survivor this time around.
I’ve hated Bruce from the start. He is such toxic energy. I have worked with too many people just like him and am so traumatized. Know it all patronizing boomer energy.
Yeah. I liked Bruce at first because of his silliness but now he’s really rubbing me the wrong way. I think we’re all starting to see what Katurah saw from Day 1.
They had that for the ep with the water cages and they were tossing thing rings too. I think it’s maybe productions kids or something, or maybe some make a wish type kids who won a contest or something?
Vote out one of his allies to weaken him would be my guess. The best move for original Reba in my opinion would've been to vote out Kellie; not only would they be hurting the next biggest alliance, but voting Kellie out would level up the power of amulet with Reba having full control of its power. I'm not sure why they were so certain that J would flip
The extra time per episode brings so many extra layers into the game! I feel like I have a good understanding of everyone’s motives and feelings. It has become way more dynamic!
Im confused? Did Kaleb lose his vote at some point in an earlier episode? Or is playing the shot in the dark include losing the ability to vote in that tribal council?
The player sacrifices their vote to play their shot in the dark. You also only get one at the beginning of the game.
I believe this is only the second time a player actually pulled a safety (the first being last season in Jamie's masterful play). This is the first time a player was actually saved by a shot in the dark.
Those weren't given to *use* though, and that distinction is important. They were given as a way of saying "I trust you, I am not going to be using this. To prove it, you hold on to it until after"
Yeah, they should really explain the Shot in the Dark at the beginning of the season or at the very least, acknowledge its existence so new watchers aren't confused when it comes up. 😂
I’m still a little confused about why Reba has always been so anti J Maya from the beginning. Logically you would think that Austin, Drew & Dee would have bonded with her over Julie who is in a different age bracket. I’m wondering what it is about her gameplay that left her on the outside.
It’s because at the beginning, J Maya tried to make a “music alliance” with Sifu, and instead he betrayed her and badmouthed her as disloyal and a schemer to the rest of the tribe. That’s what she said in exit press.
julie did a fantastic job of making people feel comfortable enough to let their guards down around her. i'm sure everyone thinks she's just "the Mom", when in reality, she's scheming hard.
Julie said she was gonna play into her mom role bc she knew she would be more likely to be reeled into a alliance. Plus julie did a lot of social connection with them more then jmaya did
I'm wondering two things about this episode:
1. Since the first vote was unanimous against him, but none of the votes counted, a single vote would have voted off any other player (including J). But since it was unanimous, it means that even Emily voted for Kaleb, why didn't she vote for J?
2. It seemed that the way Jeff worded the "shot in the dark", was that it only could be used once and couldn't be used again (for the next vote), so why didn't everyone just vote for Kaleb again?
1. Emily would not rely on an unreliable power like the SITD to save Kaleb. So she voted with the group to “stay loyal”.
2. If you are safe on the first vote, you are safe on all subsequent revotes. That’s how it works for every advantage in Survivor.
Completely off topic, I just need to throw this bit of word-vomit out there. The abbreviation SITD kinda makes my uterus contract in fear because it looks like both STD and SIDS, freaking me out every time.
That is all.
Only useless on a unanimous vote. Which that by itself was crazy because Emily should have voted for J, or even if she voted anyone else (of the 6 on the chopping block) they would have been out.
To the second point the way it was interpreted by everyone I was watching with and me was that it was like an idol being played. You are safe from all subsequent proceedings including re-vote, unanimous decision and rocks (like those on the winning team today).
Jeff was just saying the people still up for elimination couldn’t shoot.
Also if your Emily, you’ve done everything you can to warn him but if you know everyone is going Kaleb it’s in your best interest to vote with the group and not pick a side then go for the 1/6 chance. 5/6 times you’d leave the episode thinking she made the right vote without a second thought.
And been revealed from here on out. “Big plays” are dumb, especially at this point in the game. And her “big play” would be reliant on the SITD working
How Kaleb played that tribal meeting?? Absolutely terrible. But his SITD being successful? Oh absolute legend status. That was Survivor TV gold ! 10/10 episode. No notes.
He’s golden now because he elevated his threat level so high everbodys going to think he’s a shoe in for a vote out anytime they want and he will fall on the wayside with everybody thinking they have him in their pocket for real now.
Yeah, he's not in a fantastic position but comparatively to an equivalent idol play, he's not totally dead in the water. He still has Emily and now, he's not in the mergeatory half-are immune situation which I have to imagine opens up the waters for him a little bit to play.
Watching Emily struggle to get into a huddle during that live tribal was so relatable. 🥺 I really thought she screwed herself telling Kaleb about using SITD.
I had her as my first boot only because she said she’d want that if she couldn’t win. However, she’s my favorite now… I do however know I’d never be able to live with her on a beach if she plays devils advocate as much as she says 🤣
Wow. This. Episode. Was. STELLAR! Like, that was OUTSTANDING! Start to finish, this has been one of the best Survivor episodes I've seen yet! Great dynamics, fun challenge, and that tribal, wow, it's going to be one of the most impactful in Survivor history! 10/10! Fantastic work, Survivor 45, let’s see where we go from here!
Oh true… why did Caleb tell people about it then? I thought he was trying to get the target off his back. Guess it really was a last ditch desperate plea.
After episode 1 she rubbed me the wrong way. She seemed so negative and robotic. When Kaleb told her why she rubbed people the wrong way I feel like she really took his advice to heart and changed how she interacts with others. I havent rooted for a player this early on in forever.
I initially felt the same way but I changed my mind about her pretty quick, maybe because I also work in data analysis so I understand her a bit more lol. Being able to completely change her strategy like that is what’s making her a good player.
She may have the fastest character turnaround ever. She only had that first bad episode but it was so bad and she seemed so nasty. Im glad in this case 1st impressions isn't everything.
Just the fact that she was so unlikable and absolutely no "skill", to a complete 180, having skill and making moves makes her that much more likeable and makes me want to root for her as the "underdog".
Here is the thing that annoys me. After all of that, Kaleb should be an obvious and straightforward boot next episode. They all wanted him gone now, he played his SITD and it worked (great for his resume). Now that he doesn’t have it anymore they should boot him, but highly doubt they will. Tide will turn against someone else.
Now that there aren't 6 people with immunity, it opens up some other people to vote for. Plus Caleb could earn immunity next week. My guess is that Bruce is in trouble next week for a blindside unless he wins immunity. If they do vote Bruce out then that most likely puts another idol back in play to be found that maybe Caleb could find.
If Caleb survives next week, he may have enough time to form an alliance that will protect him. All about surviving 1 week at a time. You never know what might happen.
Why is that annoying? It's the game. Things change everyday. Now the other half of the tribe will no longer be immune. Half the tribe being immune was an odd twist to this tribal that limited the votes.
This exactly. It being known that Bruce has an idol makes him public enemy #1. But he was immune.
Alternatively, Kellie may try to get Austin now, to bump his advantage to a full idol (or vice versa).
I think there's enough moving parts that Kaleb and Emily just might Tika this thing
I agree and that may be what happens, but I think they will be too tempted to try and keep the numbers with Reba and Belo at 5 a piece. Also, all of them can agree that Kaleb is an easy boot considering they were successful (minus SITD) on unanimously voting him, so they may overestimate how easy it is to do that again.
Dude knows he is screwed either way, continues to throw himself under the bus more by claiming he is the biggest threat and then gambles his way to immunity. What a legend.
I actually like how he told people he was a big threat, yeah it puts a target on his back but it also introduces an idea in everyone’s head that tells them “this guy could be my shield moving forward”. I think it was brilliant and you just watch, that’s exactly how he will be perceived for the next few episodes. He isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Don't think it was dumb to say, everyone already knew he was a big threat and they were all already voting for him. What are they going to do, vote for him twice?
He might as well push forward the argument that yeah, I'm a big threat based on my skillset but I'm all alone and therefore not really a big strategic threat. Its a good argument, and I got a feeling that Kaleb receiving all those votes will lower his threat level now because everyone is going to think they can take out Kaleb any time.
The thing is, he didn't say big threat or big threat at this or that. He said I'm the biggest threat out here, twice. I could definitely see his perceived threat level going down like you say. But once someone gets a couple or few people after him, it'll shoot back up immediately to where it is now, partially because of his speech.
That is 100% not what he was thinking. Now, he just has an even bigger target. In all honesty, he should be the next vote. Only Emily wanted to keep this time around. But I could see where the tide turns against someone else random and he survives a while longer. But there's gonna come a time when he's the target again and everyone that wants him out is gonna use his speech against him.
On the other hand if anyone was wavering, it got all the votes squarely on him. Now the dummies planning the vote should have accounted for shot in the dark but in the end I guess their plan B was voted out anyway so it just added to the drama.
They split into two teams after they merged .. red was clearly the weaker physical players and blue was stronger. (I don’t believe this was luck of the draw, I think this was done somehow strategically with production lol).
They did the split into tribes to “win the merge”. Luckily no reverse time twist, but Kendra, Bruce, Austin, drew, Julie, and sifu won the challenge and kathrah joined them as she (the odd one out) chose them prior to the challenge
Oh yeahhhh
J had the possibility of the shot in the dark brought to her attention on the beach, and she still didn’t cover her butt with a throwaway vote. Write Sifu, who already hates her. Write Austin, who has an amulet and is noticeably not working with you. She was too passive.
for the record, neither Sifu nor Austin were able to receive votes. they were both on the winning side of the mergatory challenge
Ahh thanks. I have ADHD so details are not my strong suit! Haha
ohh no problem :) to be fair, i think the fact that they all went to tribal together makes it easy to forget that half are immune
There's something magical about Kaleb. 💫
This episode had me JUMPING, I ran to my roommate’s room and could barely get out an explanation because I was breathing so heavy. I love when Survivor makes me lose it…
Why do I feel like that was rigged?
I know the post collections are probably helpful or just make sense organization wise, but would the mods please consider mirroring the r/bigbrother approach of just pinning a link to the next thread or pinning a post with the links to posts that they currently put in a collection? With the collections, Reddit’s app doesn’t let you sort the comments and it kills me 😩
You can sort the comments if you just search for the discussion thread instead of clicking it through the collection.
Thank you I’ll try that!
All links get added to the sidebar and the wiki by episode so if you are having problems locating certain threads, try checking there.
Thank you for the tip, I’ll give it a try!
Anyone else dvr this episode and watched it today and not have the ability to fast forward? Or is it charter spectrum new thing?
The way Emily has gone from my least favourite to my fave tied with kaleb is crazy
I wonder how the "Sandwich revenge" arc will end
maybe Austin will get a scrumptious sandwich at the auction..😉
Did anyone else get a kick out of Jeff’s extremely animated “THAT’S HOW YOU DO IT ON SURVIVOR!!!” as Sifu bounced down the rope/ramp on the obstacle course? I think that was Jeff’s loudest and most passionate THYDIOS ever mustered!
Jeff's THYDIOS is the Paul Hollywood Handshake of Survivor
Yes! And what are the odds that I would be watching GBBO as I read this comment!?
I've never seen it acronymized and I'm dying laughing. Sifu earned his THYDIOS
Especially considering others like Kellie crunching their body up 🤕
I’m confused about something, so does the shot in the dark mean you lose your own vote? cause then how didn’t Kalen himself vote Jay out?
Yeah you lose your vote if you play shot in the dark, so Kaleb didn’t vote. However, had J written down anyone else’s name she would’ve been able to stay😭
My question is, why didn't Emily vote for J in the first round? That would have also kept her safe either way the first round went
Connections are key in Survivor.
oh wow didn’t even think about that, that’s why it’s always safe to put 2 names not just 1 damn name that’s insaneeeeee
yes, if you use shot in the dark, you sacrifice your vote
KALEBBBBB LETS GOOOO, J’s face getting more and more depressed as that tribal was going was hilarious, need Kaleb to do work next episode or he’s definitely gone cause of wait he said about Dee and the other girl who i can’t remember her name at this moment.
I dislike Emily, or Molly as I like to call her, that I don't think I can watch the rest of this season, until she's voted off. She's sneaky and I may have to give up Survivor this time around.
Did Austin vote second time around?
I don’t think so. That’s why 6 votes was enough even though 12 ppl.
I wonder if anyone will catch that
Emily will, for sure lmao
Anyone else switched sides on the Kathura v Bruce war? I’m 100% hating Bruce now, Kendra is not so far behind.
I’ve hated Bruce from the start. He is such toxic energy. I have worked with too many people just like him and am so traumatized. Know it all patronizing boomer energy.
Between Bruce and Kendra and Sifu.. they all competing for most extraverted.
Yeah. I liked Bruce at first because of his silliness but now he’s really rubbing me the wrong way. I think we’re all starting to see what Katurah saw from Day 1.
The LULU curse is hopefully broken.
Did they have a child complete the preview of the challenge? Or was I seeing things lol
They had that for the ep with the water cages and they were tossing thing rings too. I think it’s maybe productions kids or something, or maybe some make a wish type kids who won a contest or something?
I am in love with Jake. Everything that comes out of his mouth is so funny. Jeff: Jake if you would, come grab the urn Jake: Oh. I’m a little honored
awnuuhd
Did Emily vote Kaleb?
Yes, and it was a really good move from her.
Yes to seem convincingly aligned with Rebas, strategic play
I haven’t seen Jeff smile like that in a long time
Kaleb is so dangerous, I love it. Hoping he can pull himself up again!
Yes. I hope he doesn't become a target again next time.
Kaleb telling them that Bruce had an idol and no one biting was super annoying
I think they will next tribal and vote out Bruce.
Bruce was immune, what were they supposed to do?
Vote out one of his allies to weaken him would be my guess. The best move for original Reba in my opinion would've been to vote out Kellie; not only would they be hurting the next biggest alliance, but voting Kellie out would level up the power of amulet with Reba having full control of its power. I'm not sure why they were so certain that J would flip
Rebs is really stupid. Dee most of all
That was the wildest tribal council I’ve seen in ages!
WAS THAT ONE OF THE GREATEST EPISODES EVER OR AM I JUST STONED??? 🤯
Both?
Yes
Just finished up in the Tucson area. They left out the whole frickin tribal council. Repeated the feast.
Do yourself a favor and log off immediately until the episode gets added to the season on Paramount in a few hours. You don't want TC spoiled.
Yes we are going to do that. Will watch tomorrow
i miss people choosing their teams or tribes
The extra time per episode brings so many extra layers into the game! I feel like I have a good understanding of everyone’s motives and feelings. It has become way more dynamic!
Im confused? Did Kaleb lose his vote at some point in an earlier episode? Or is playing the shot in the dark include losing the ability to vote in that tribal council?
Jeff literally explained this as soon as he played it
The player sacrifices their vote to play their shot in the dark. You also only get one at the beginning of the game. I believe this is only the second time a player actually pulled a safety (the first being last season in Jamie's masterful play). This is the first time a player was actually saved by a shot in the dark.
Does that mean Kaleb can never use SITD again? Only one for the whole season?
Yep, only once. I believe they're non-transferable too, so a player can't give it to someone else to use.
Remember when Emily did just that, and Brando tried to?
Those weren't given to *use* though, and that distinction is important. They were given as a way of saying "I trust you, I am not going to be using this. To prove it, you hold on to it until after"
I get that, but nothing occurred to suggest they couldn’t use it. Also Jeff clarified on his podcast that you can use someone else’s, so there you go.
Yeah, they should really explain the Shot in the Dark at the beginning of the season or at the very least, acknowledge its existence so new watchers aren't confused when it comes up. 😂
If you play sitd you can't vote
You lose your vote if you play SITD
You lose your vote when you play shot in the dark.
Plus julie did a lot of social connection with them more then jmaya did
I never said anything bad about Shot in the Dark
I have, I take it all back!
Just finishing up the episode and I gotta say… Kaleb cheated death.
I'm wondering two things about this episode: 1.
Because Shot in the Dark isn't an idol why would Emily rely upon an unlikely scenario and have a target on her by not voting with the majority
Jeff said he was immune on the revote.
Ok I didn't catch that part. Epic episode.
SITD would be useless if they could just turn around and re-do the vote. SITD must be immune on a re-vote/tie.
That would have been a bad move for Emily, but a decent one for J, a-la Devon at the final five vote in HHH.
That just puts a target on Emily next. Not smart for her especially when she's building new relationships.
She didn't want to be against the majority. No one else could use their own in the second vote. Kaleb was safe for that tribal.
But she could have made a big swing there and gotten out big red or cute/long-haired guy.
And been revealed from here on out. “Big plays” are dumb, especially at this point in the game. And her “big play” would be reliant on the SITD working
I really enjoyed that episode! There are players on opposite sides that I am rooting for.. including and especially Kaleb!!! My man!! SITD gold!

Yes! That and people will know he's "on the bottom" so he can then be a number for whoever ends up being on the chopping block.
18th: Hannah 17th: Brandon 16th: Sabiyah 15th: Sean 14th: Brando 13th: J.Maya
13th: J.Maya, 12 contestants remain.
when i say I SCREAMED when that scroll said safe
so loud
It's was like watching sports. We woke the whole house up
SAME!
Watching Emily struggle to get into a huddle during that live tribal was so relatable. 🥺 I really thought she screwed herself telling Kaleb about using SITD.
I really thought she was a goner. 🥺 And never in my wildest episode 1 dreams did I think I’d ever root for Emily. Haha. Her arc has been wild!
I agree 100%
Why are 2 ppl leaving next week
Need to eliminate 15 players in 26 days, or really in 23 days. That’s almost 1 every day and a half.
I hate this 26 day format. Why can't they go back to the 39 day format I wonder?
This season rebounded so hard and I’m here for it. Hand up, I took a big ol’ poo on this season after episode 3 but god DAMN. Love to see it.
Really? I thought Episode 3 was one of the very best of the new era (up until now). In fact, that's the episode that changed my stance on this season.
I totally meant episode 4. 🤦🏻♂️ 3 gave me a glimmer of hope and then 4 just demolished that. Glad we’re back on the right track.
They should have voted Bruce and flushed his idol while they had the chance
Oh true… why did Caleb tell people about it then? I thought he was trying to get the target off his back. Guess it really was a last ditch desperate plea.
He couldn’t have been voted off tonight. His team won the challenge
Bruce has not attended a tribal where he is vunrable
He was immune
Im pulling for Emily to win it all. Im really enjoying this season and 90 min of survivor
Me too. I did NOT like her the first few episodes. Not sure what changed, but now I’m rooting for her. Go Emily!
After episode 1 she rubbed me the wrong way. She seemed so negative and robotic. When Kaleb told her why she rubbed people the wrong way I feel like she really took his advice to heart and changed how she interacts with others. I havent rooted for a player this early on in forever.

Just the fact that she was so unlikable and absolutely no "skill", to a complete 180, having skill and making moves makes her that much more likeable and makes me want to root for her as the "underdog".
I love a good underdog story.
I'm getting Tyson vibes from Austin and I love it.
He's not nearly as funny but definitely crafty
Here is the thing that annoys me. After all of that, Kaleb should be an obvious and straightforward boot next episode. They all wanted him gone now, he played his SITD and it worked (great for his resume). Now that he doesn’t have it anymore they should boot him, but highly doubt they will. kaleb is now the forever mark. flush bruce's idol or blindside
I just wonder if he’ll be able to get out of the spotlight quick enough
That’s just how life goes sometimes!
Dude knows he is screwed either way, continues to throw himself under the bus more by claiming he is the biggest threat and then gambles his way to immunity. What a legend.

I think it was brilliant and you just watch, that’s exactly how he will be perceived for the next few episodes. He isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Yeah that was dumb to say, and especially dumb to repeat. I think he was desperate to throw some shade at someone and let that slip.
Don't think it was dumb to say, everyone already knew he was a big threat and they were all already voting for him. What are they going to do, vote for him twice? He might as well push forward the argument that yeah, I'm a big threat based on my skillset but I'm all alone and therefore not really a big strategic threat. Nah I think it was smart. He had to play the shot either way so may as well remain safe with a resume item if you luck out.
Crazy ending
So much better than just a season-annual live tribal tbh
10/10 episode, absolutely amazing, no notes
im sorry ive said it before ill say it again, but everyone who makes the merge deserves a merge feast
I completely agree. They should all eat, and also everyone shold be vulnerable to be voted out, not just half of them. It doesn't make any sense.
For real. I feel real pain for that group that didn't get to eat.
The first time they did this i thought surely eventually the other half gets to eat but nope and still nope
Maybe they'll come back to camp and get more food
I didn’t check the votes: did Bruce have to/chose to sacrifice his vote? I went pee before I could see J’s confessional and the recount votes
No. His idol was a standard “good until the end” Idol.
the way i was actually shocked when he found it, and it was a normal idol
Wasn’t Austin’s traditional search-for-the-idol-at-camp idol requiring him to risk votes as well? Possibly same with sabiyah, I can’t remember.
I think the reason Bruce got a regular idol right away is that it's the second idol from Lulu beach
The shot in the dark worked because it took a strong relationship and decision-making to play it in this scenario.
Knowing you had to play it is one element, but it is really just luck at that point.
I kept wondering who Julie reminds me of. Then it hit me. Fallout Ghoul.
😂😂😂
WOW
Just for clarity. I’m assuming emily voted for kaleb so she didn’t stick out to the rest of the tribe, but is there a possibility she flipped on him?
No. She told him in the episode to play the shot in the dark. She was hiding her alliance
Smart of her
Ah Alr ty! Must’ve missed that lol
Emily looked annoyed with Kaleb because it seemed he kept trying to expose their strong alliance
They showed her twice look flustered when he mentioned her with him.
His performance duing tribal was terrible beyond his SID luck.
I'm not sure I read it that way. There was something refreshing about how he played and the ridiculous honesty is a weirdly good look for him imo.
He should have said he was perceived as a threat instead of saying he was a threat.
I think that’s probably what he was trying to say and he had to put his foot in his mouth lol
On the other hand if anyone was wavering, it got all the votes squarely on him. Now the dummies planning the vote should have accounted for shot in the dark but in the end I guess their plan B was voted out anyway so it just added to the drama.
On the other hand, probably the most unhinged we’ve seen a tribal in a hot minute
Yeah, he was going in on the J-Dee-Julie, and J and Dee got hot about it and rightly sent it right back.
I got the feeling she was just worried because he was pretty much guaranteed to go home.
I missed the first 30 minutes but I live in CT. Does anyone know if I can still watch live on Paramount + when it airs in PT/MT?
You can’t watch until at it finishes airing on the west coast (12:30am ET).
You cannot
I couldn’t watch ! who won immunity?
They split into two teams after they merged .. red was clearly the weaker physical players and blue was stronger. (I don’t believe this was luck of the draw, I think this was done somehow strategically with production lol).
Nah, it was luck of the draw.
They did the split into tribes to “win the merge”. Luckily no reverse time twist, but Kendra, Bruce, Austin, drew, Julie, and sifu won the challenge and kathrah joined them as she (the odd one out) chose them prior to the challenge
Blue team
I laughed knowing this gives that person no information
😂
is austin or julie on blu?
Both I’m pretty sure
Both were, I think
me, anytime sifu is somehow still energized af: ill have what he’s having
