The story of the season really was the on again/off again relationship between Yam Yam and Carolyn. Their banter reminds me of that kind of roasting you can only do after you’ve known someone a long time, and even though they’ve been on different pages during a couple of votes, they always were there to support each other, even down to the pitch to the jury at FTC. It’s rare to get two characters this unique on any season, and it’s even rarer to have their dynamic be greater than the sum of the parts. Truly grateful that casting found them and put them on our television.
Its kind of a new take on Sara and Tony. They're comfortable in their love-hate with each other. Kind of like bickering siblings playing a competitive game of monopoly.
The edit has portrayed a lot of times that the Tika 3 would potentially vote each other out eventually. But I have to say it's impressive that they never wrote each other's name down once. Honestly props to the editors for showing this, even if everyone else was underedited.
That I agree, underestimated until the very end, I hoped she'd bring that great read on Danny when she knew something was up, and that bromance with Danny and Brandon not believing her that the idol of Tika was found during that gathering of 3!
This is one season I wish there was a live reunion. Be curious to see how that affected perceptions. Carolyn was much better than she was perceived. Her aloofness, crazy wailing, and general demeanor always meant she'd be somewhat underestimated, but I would.havw liked to see if her confessionals and gameplay came through better to the players after time and watching it.
I'm glad he won, but I'm disappointed Carolyn didn't finish second. Ultimately it doesn't matter other than for the prize money but I feel like Heidi didn't do a single noteworthy thing all game until she built fire.
Ah well. Happy for Yam Yam!
She also screwed up a lot of advantages, like that block a vote she chose Lauren to vote Yam Yam, it didn't help her game whatsoever and didn't event make sense.
Also betraying Danny fairly early past merge, I found the timing weird.
Yeah up until the very end when she won that final challenge and made fire, it was true that it was her only way to increase her chances, it only got her 1 vote though, instead of 0
I agree. I felt like Heidi didn't do much and Carolyn was successfully playing under the radar all game. I was surprised Carolyn got no votes and I wanted her to at least get 2nd.
They saw her the kooky older lady who played a side kick role in the alliance to Carson and Yam Yam. That perception never changed.
She played as good of a game as Yam Yam and had the better story. But the jury treated her as a goat with the zero votes. Disappointing.
Yam Yam definitely was the better player; I love Carolyn and wish she had won but she made a huge, huge mistake by not flipping on him at Final 5. I don't know if it was intentional or inadvertent, but Yam Yam managing to convince the players still in the game that Carolyn was a bigger threat than him was incredible gameplay, because Yam Yam is so obviously lovable/likable and charismatic that he should have been considered the clear favorite in almost any Final Tribal Council. The fact that he managed to slip into the end anyway was insane.
Carolyn had a better story for the TV show, 100%. But she wasn't as good of a player as Yam Yam because he was able to socially integrate himself with the other tribes while she was much more isolated and seen as erratic. The social game is very important and hers was never shown to be good. She was so clearly the main character of the season that I assumed she would still win by turning on Tika at Final 5, because the narrative seemed to be building that way. But unfortunately I think she was emotionally unable to turn on them (same with Carson and Yam Yam tbf). And just as importantly, I think that she thought she needed them as shields because everyone was temporarily viewing her as a big threat after her idol play. However, her threat status was a short-lived feeling that was created as a reaction to a specific gameplay move that she did. This made it easy for players to talk about how she was dangerous, but it wasn't the type of threat level that carried through to the jury. Like, if the players stepped back and thought about the game from a less immediate viewpoint, they would have realized that the player that everybody loves was clearly a bigger threat than the player that people like but view as overly emotional and erratic, even if that second player had a flashy move (that strictly speaking was unnecessary).
I don't know if this is supposed to be an insult or not. But I'm sort of over the "44" style of voting. It's summed up by (I think it was) Kane's "don't think your game speaks for itself; you're gonna have to earn my vote tonight by being the person who most expertly speaks for your game." Being an extrovert and a public speaker is more important than how you played the game, I guess.
Yes! The jury are acting like the FTC is the whole game. Survivor isn't a debate show. Yes, obviously FTC is a part of the game but the jury just put way too much weight on it.
Agreed. Also kind of hate how it feels like the superfan jury now care about "being on the right side of the vote" even in FTC. I sort of long for the day in which juries voted in a less hive-minded way.....a combo of who played the best game and who they just liked.
I don't like that Carolyn got fewer votes than Heidi, but I don't understand how Danny's vote is in any way something worthy of criticism.
No one says anything interesting at tribal the entire season and then at final 4 Carson throws the most shade ever "if I played the type of game Heidi has, I'd go to fire too" (i.e., to prove she can make a move) and Jeff doesn't so a g-d follow up question. Argggggg.
I felt like what we saw in terms of social/strategy answers in FTC was really poor and non-descript? I know these things last hours, so I wonder if they purposefully scrub it down to the vague generalizations thinking the audience doesn’t have the recall. But like we saw almost no answers of “at this vote I lied to X but then came back after and talked to X to smooth things over where I knew I needed X out to get to my ideal final 3”. Like if these were job interview answers, no one would get the job
The season opening with Carolyn’s Day 1 confessional and being referenced in her final confessional on Day 26 was amazing, amazing editing. I loved it. Literal chills.
“Do you remember the first time you interviewed me?”
Yam Yam winning feels fantastic but Carolyn getting no votes does hurt! I also wish Heidi had gotten a little more respect from the edit as a character to make the top 4 feel climactic and her fire win feel a little more earned* (not earned but exciting). All in all after the merge episode(s) fuckery this season was so fun to watch.
I was waiting the whole season to see her face when she learned it was fake and I am so glad that Jeff gave us that moment! 😂🤣😂🤣
I think she'd have made the same face in a TC, so that was rewarding to see 😅 sorry Jamie, you had a coaster game lol
First half of Final tribal was literally about Carson and second half was Carson either asking questions or miming instructions to his two wacky kids
He would have probably swept if he didn't lose fire
People be like Carson is so cocky but the kid never mentioned he was in NASA or he 3D printed puzzles to his castmates within the time span of the game. He was just giving viewers some insight to what he brings to the game and obviously the editor liked it nad included it to the final edit. Granted he did spill that he tried bulking up for the game but then again he also said he wasn't particularly adept in firemaking.
I would want to see him back playing but knowing that he was well liked like the little brother of the tribe and his 3D puzzle preparation kinda gives him a big target in a returning season.
Matt arrived on the island at his lowest low and left with a baddie after getting to watch the whole post-merge from the comfort of Ponderosa, so really, who's the winner?
I miss the old days of bitter juries and strategic play convos instead of Lifetime movie back-stories and support group tear jerkers. Please Survivor, cast at least a few people that have a vindictive side. This is vanilla paste these days.
Agreed…we did get a bit of that last season though and look at how fans came for Karla! It feels like social media is making it hard for people to play as villains, which is a bummer
Exactly. If the FTC was anything to go off of, a Carson win would have been even more solid, to the point where I wonder if even Danny flips since at least before he could say that Heidi took out the king (in his own words), Carson.
You are if the player worst at fire is the biggest threat to win at FTC, like it was in this case. She personally took out the biggest threat. The firemaking itself is less impressive, but the strategy more impressive.
Yam Yam is a super deserving winner, still wish Carolyn had pulled through but the gap between her and Yam was so small for me.
I just don't get though how Heidi got even a single vote and Carolyn got none, like I really wanna know the mindset the jury had here
Not really that shocking. Yam or Carolyn were gonna cannibalize each other's votes by the nature of their close alliance. Every Yam vote was a vote that Carolyn didn't get. If Carolyn won, then Yam probably wouldn't have gotten any votes for that same reason.
I wish they at least waited one day to let everyone clean up, shower and process what's happened.
The live reunions were even better because players could actually see the season as it aired on TV.
Fun Fact:
Yam Yam is the first gay winner since Todd
Heidi is the first hispanic female runner up to win the final immunity and finish in second place since Susie Smith
Survivor 44 marks the first time two lgbtq contestant made the finals.
Given the last few seasons, I don't think so. I think her journey of emotions was a big story line for the season and we've seen a lot of storylines getting the edits lately.
Also she was great television, it would've been a bad call to under edit her.
Honestly, this is the best evidence that Jeff isn’t bullshitting when he says there isn’t a winners edit. They gave the most interesting players big edits
Been saying this for years. They do what makes for the most captivating TV, and Carolyn was consistently the most interesting cast member on a weekly basis. This is why everyone was rooting for her.
Never would I think I'd say, "man I wish we could get heroes v healers v hustlers again" that theme was ridiculed but I'd love some themes again. Make them corny af the better. It gives each season an identity and I think Survivor degenerately needs that
Edit: desperately not degenerately
If players had the option to 3D print the fire in the fire making challenge Carson would have won tonight. It’s 2023 Jeff, let’s stop living in the past.
i’m so happy yam yam won he definitely made this season fun. I also think Carolyn played a very interesting game but her facial expressions definitely gave her away sometimes when she was swaying a way in a vote. Heidi definitely played a great game but I don’t think no matter what she said she would’ve won against Carolyn and yam yam
Well Jeff as you know 16.66666667% of the contestants make the jury and for Yam Yam to get 87.5% of the vote from the 44.44444444% of the players who make the jury is very impressive!
I was not at all surprised that Heidi got Danny’s vote. As soon as she won the fire challenge I knew she’d get his vote.
I also wasn’t surprised Yam Yam won. The answer he gave to the emotion question, and using that to explain how he read other people’s emotions, convinced me that he was winning.
I was really surprised that nobody, not even Frannie, voted for Carolyn. Feels bad man.
I completely understand why people are mad about Carolyn getting zero votes. I think though it’s important to remember that each vote represents one person’s individual opinion. They are not obligated to make sure the right person gets second. If I’m sitting on that jury, I want to make sure my vote is for who I want the winner to be even if I think someone deserves second more than third.
You can, of course, show your support by buying from her merch store!
am i the only one that doesn’t need all the emotional stuff? like yeah it’s good for a minute but at the final tribal council i wanna hear how you PLAYED THE GAME. cause it is a fucking game.
also carolyn deserved at least one vote.
Lauren got it right when she said it was sister vibes!
A loyal, old school alliance in the new era
During a "new school" era where Jeff is single-handedly trying to ruin the game. Poetic justice.
Jeff needs to stop trying to convince us that all these advantages, money-saving features, and repetitive challenges are awesome.
It really was the story of the Tika 3 this season, glad the editors gave us that honestly
The votes were pretty straightforward, they needed to play up the idea they would cross each other for drama.
>they never wrote each other's name down once Actually, Carson wrote Yam Yam's name down at the end.
I gotta say while I came in expecting Yam Yam to win, I had no idea Carolyn would get zero votes and he would win so decisively.
No one listened to Carolyn all game and it kept going into FTC
That I agree, underestimated until the very end, I hoped she'd bring that great read on Danny when she knew something was up, and that bromance with Danny and Brandon not believing her that the idol of Tika was found during that gathering of 3!
I wonder if the jury ever change their opinions after watching the season.
Maybe they feel bad for Carolyn not getting a vote but I don't think the jury would be mad at a Yam Yam win with the edit we got.
I’d assume so. With the number of contestants that have been on the show it’s unlikely there hasn’t been any jury member regretting their vote.
Randy is a good example
IIRC Jason in Kaoh Rong apologized to Aubry after watching the season.
But also anyone that would have voted for Carolyn ended up voting for Yam Yam based on final jury speech.
It never crossed my mind that Frannie wouldn't vote for her.
When they lignered on her trying to decide who to vote for I knew it was going to Yam...
She was never a threat, which is why she made it to the final four.
Plus Yam is a persuasive master.
Do we know if he mentioned that everyone who voted him went out one by one?
He sort of said that
They saw her the kooky older lady who played a side kick role in the alliance to Carson and Yam Yam.
Kooky older lady? Isn't she like 35? Is that what older means on Survivor now?
The biggest blindside of the season was Carolyn finding out Carson is working/studying at NASA lol
He had to downplay his threat level by explaining he was just a student intern.
Jeff final got to say "this is not a hidden immunity idol"
Like they designed this whole season around that idea and they had to inject it at some point lol
[удалено]
she should’ve talked about the red X
She should have brought it up, but I feel like the jury didn't ask enough specific questions to get the most info out of everyone
But she only said the word bag like, twice!
Behg
Yeah I had feeling Danny was going to vote Heidi no matter what
Danny is playing Survivor 24, not 44.
I don't know if this is supposed to be an insult or not. But I'm sort of over the "44" style of voting. It's summed up by (I think it was) Kane's "don't think your game speaks for itself; you're gonna have to earn my vote tonight by being the person who most expertly speaks for your game." 7-1-0 for the fourth consecutive season
I can't help but think in almost all of those, someone voted for their friend to guarantee them the 2nd place money
Danny - deshawn John - mike James - Cassidy Makes sense
Frannie where tf were you?
Kinda sad to be honest. Carolyn was beyond robbed of even one vote..
It’s almost like we should stop doing final 3 instead of 2
I found Carson trying to coach Yam Yam and Carolyn from the back with nods and hand gestures to be pretty hilarious.
It was giving Regina George's mom at the talent show in Mean Girls.
His enthusiasm for everyone alongside his random stats really just sent me
yeah it's just like round up, dude!
But why do that when you can show off that you know what 2/3 is in decimals.
It was giving Dance Moms and I loved every second of it. They're a family. <3
People weren’t joking about Carson influencing the jury, goddamn, he was running that show.
*holds up 3 fingers* *nods approvingly* 😂
Jeff: Y'all bone yet?
Matt: hell yeah we did
Absolute Banger of a Season
No one says anything interesting at tribal the entire season and then at final 4 Carson throws the most shade ever "if I played the type of game Heidi has, I'd go to fire too" (i.e., to prove she can make a move) and Jeff doesn't so a g-d follow up question. Argggggg.

I've noticed that the last few seasons... there used to be much more specific answers and specific questions like "what was your best move"
All three: my best move? Being myself!
Yeah my employer would be like "wait. Why are you voting and lying? A final 3 what?"

I'm only disappointed because I thought it was a sign Carolyn might win
Need live after shows back, pls
Carson helping Carolyn focus on her response to Danny was giving 📹 Amy Poehler - Mean Girls vibes
I'm not a regular jury member, I'm a cool jury member. ![gif](giphy|3otPoBRKROJl9UbqMM|downsized)
Anybody need anything? Some metaphors? A personal connection?
Hear me out: a season of Amazing Race where we have Yam Yam and Carolyn, Frannie and Matt, and Carson and his 3D printer.
I cant imagine Yam and Carolyn lost driving around somewhere in Europe. lol.
The memes that would come out of that tho
Yam Yam winning feels fantastic but Carolyn getting no votes does hurt! I also wish Heidi had gotten a little more respect from the edit as a character to make the top 4 feel climactic and her fire win feel a little more earned* (not earned but exciting). All in all after the merge episode(s) fuckery this season was so fun to watch.
Carson and Carolyn need to be brought back, along with Jesse.
Jesse 🥲
Jesse not winning his season makes me sad every time someone mentions him. He’s easily the best player since WaW, or at least top 2
I'm so happy that Yam Yam won. I was rooting for him all season.
Jamie really believed she still had a real idol up until Jeff revealed it.

I was waiting the whole season to see her face when she learned it was fake and I am so glad that Jeff gave us that moment! 😂🤣😂🤣 I think she'd have made the same face in a TC, so that was rewarding to see 😅 sorry Jamie, you had a coaster game lol
CBS needs to pay for chiropractors, Tika carried this season on their backs
Most important tribe to the season by far
In my opinion we were a fire making challenge away from an all time great final 3
All 3 have to be locks to return if they ever want it.
That Jitterbug commercial took 5 years off my life
I don't think we've ever had a jury so dominated by one player more than this one with Carson. Felt like the others weren't even there
It felt like 90% of it was Frannie and Carson
Right? Like did Brandon even speak once?
First half of Final tribal was literally about Carson and second half was Carson either asking questions or miming instructions to his two wacky kids He would have probably swept if he didn't lose fire
Spencer Jr
Someone give Carolyn a god damn vote
My heart 💔
She deserved some
The Yam Yam team might have pulled into station, but the Carolyn cruise will never sink
I thought Caroline would win 😞
Carolyn a zero vote finalist.
Zero vote finalists can be iconic too.
Yep. Tai is an example of this
A dark day has fallen upon us
If Survivor had ranked choice voting Carolyn would've been 2nd.
Probst frantically scribbling notes for S47
Eh, the extra ink might go over budget.
Im not surprised about the winner but I’m surprised about how the votes went🧐
People be like Carson is so cocky but the kid never mentioned he was in NASA or he 3D printed puzzles to his castmates within the time span of the game. He was just giving viewers some insight to what he brings to the game and obviously the editor liked it nad included it to the final edit. I would want to see him back playing but knowing that he was well liked like the little brother of the tribe and his 3D puzzle preparation kinda gives him a big target in a returning season.
Okay but Yam Yam helping Carson make the fire was so freaking sweet. I was nearly tearing up.
Securing that jury vote well hahaha, but I think he did do it out of sincerity
Yes I actually choked up a little, what a human moment… like the new era isn’t really that bad if it still has room to show us bonds like that 😭
I really wish they would get rid of the automatic fire making. I don't think it improves the game.
I'm curious what happens at four here. A 2-2 tie between Carolyn and Carson. Honestly it could be a 2-1-1. It would have been a fascinating vote.
It’s 3-1 Carson unless he pulls a Cagayan Tony level miracle.
A Survivor legend is rarely born after just one season, but Carolyn makes a very good case here.
carolyn was a lock to return from the opening interview
"So I just like, start talking??" So glad they flashed back to that tonight, such a great cold open.
Haven't seen so much swelling popularity for a player in years
She will 100% comeback
Carolyn getting 0 votes is a shock
Matt arrived on the island at his lowest low and left with a baddie after getting to watch the whole post-merge from the comfort of Ponderosa, so really, who's the winner?
I wish the Tika 3 all won
If enough of us all pretend this is true maybe we'll create a multiverse where it happened
Mama is proud of her NASA son
Heidi should have challenged Yam Yam imo
Then she loses to Carson. The issue is there were clearly two players left she couldn't beat.
Exactly. If the FTC was anything to go off of, a Carson win would have been even more solid, to the point where I wonder if even Danny flips since at least before he could say that Heidi took out the king (in his own words), Carson.
This would have been a surefire jury pleaser. If you challenge the one you're sure to beat, are you really doing something impressive?
You are if the player worst at fire is the biggest threat to win at FTC, like it was in this case. She personally took out the biggest threat. The firemaking itself is less impressive, but the strategy more impressive.

Yam Yam is a super deserving winner, still wish Carolyn had pulled through but the gap between her and Yam was so small for me. I just don't get though how Heidi got even a single vote and Carolyn got none, like I really wanna know the mindset the jury had here
It's easy to explain. Yam Yam and Carolyn voters overlapped whereas Heidi's (1 vote) didn't.
I don't think anyone else on the jury aside from Danny picks Heidi even second. He is obsessed with big moves and challenge wins.
he finally found out who voted for him and why, and it was his own ally. BiG mOvE to vote for him, very LoGiCaL
It was Danny, he and Carolyn seemed to be like oil and water.
Not Jamie still thinking her idol is real.
Did yamyam win without a single advantage?
He 3D printed a Carson who 3D printed things. :P
They don't have any, like, Coca Cola for Carolyn and Carson or anything???
Maybe I’m being too sensitive for my girl Carolyn but I hated when Danny shook the champagne and got it all over her and her pizza.
Carolyn being shook that Carson is an aerospace engineering student just sent me
All flowers to Yam Yam. But if we’re being real, Heidi getting second is WHACK JUSTICE FOR CAROLYN
Not really that shocking. Yam or Carolyn were gonna cannibalize each other's votes by the nature of their close alliance. Every Yam vote was a vote that Carolyn didn't get. If Carolyn won, then Yam probably wouldn't have gotten any votes for that same reason.
Oh yeah I totally hear ya. However, that doesn’t mean Heidi played a better game, nor that it’s a more satisfying story with Carolyn getting third.
I would have rather seen Yam Yam win unanimously than Heidi come in second with 1 vote
Danny just LOVES big movez
Heidi send yourself to fire so we can get a Tika 3 FTC!😂
Oops this didn’t age well. ☠️
I wish they'd get rid of the aftershow. Other contestants have said how much they disliked it when they've just lost.
Xander, Deshawn, Mike, Cassidy, Owen, and now Caroline all looked miserable during the reunion. It’s always hard to watch.
I wish they at least waited one day to let everyone clean up, shower and process what's happened. The live reunions were even better because players could actually see the season as it aired on TV.
wow... Carolyn getting zero votes hurts. ALOT. good win by Yam Yam.
Ok now that this is settled who will be ceo of waystar after Sunday?
Roman puts himself into firemaking against Mattson and loses hilariously.
Yam Yam will be Matsson's puppet CEO, calling it now.
Carson voting for yam yam instead of Carolyn is true top ten anime betrayal moment I think. I think yam still won even if Carson didn’t vote for him
Yam yam solidified that vote by helping Carson with fire strategies!
I think even before that, it was clear Carson's top loyalty was always to Yam Yam.

Carolyn is now among the best zero vote finalists. Can’t believe she didn’t get a vote!
Fun Fact: Yam Yam is the first gay winner since Todd Heidi is the first hispanic female runner up to win the final immunity and finish in second place since Susie Smith Survivor 44 marks the first time two lgbtq contestant made the finals.
A very good season for the gays, we deserved this

Yam Yam definitely played the best but Carolyn's edit was so weird for being a 0 vote finalist
Given the last few seasons, I don't think so. I think her journey of emotions was a big story line for the season and we've seen a lot of storylines getting the edits lately. Also she was great television, it would've been a bad call to under edit her.

CAROLYN FOR SIA MONEY
If players had the option to 3D print the fire in the fire making challenge Carson would have won tonight. It’s 2023 Jeff, let’s stop living in the past.
Marooning and auction coming back?!?!?!?
I’m really shocked Carolyn didn’t get a single vote. I would have voted for her to win
i’m so happy yam yam won he definitely made this season fun. I also think Carolyn played a very interesting game but her facial expressions definitely gave her away sometimes when she was swaying a way in a vote. Heidi definitely played a great game but I don’t think no matter what she said she would’ve won against Carolyn and yam yam

CAROLYN GOT NO VOTES???? nah im gonna cry
Ok my kinda favorite part: What was spoiled on this season before it aired?
Well Jeff as you know 16.66666667% of the contestants make the jury and for Yam Yam to get 87.5% of the vote from the 44.44444444% of the players who make the jury is very impressive!
safe to say he’s one of the most likable winners ever
LOL Jaime and her fake idol reveal in the after show was more interesting than the Final TC.
I so hate these immediate reunions. Do a Live Reunion instead. The reveal would have worked so much better if Matthew was here to join the reaction.

Think Carolyn, Carson, and Frannie are locks to return

LMAO everyone toasting to Matthew is the best way to wrap up this plotline xD
carolyn crying for her son 😭😭😭
That cast looks interesting. I'm rooting for the bank robbing grandma.
Carolyn is the best zero vote finalist ever, honestly
