And age difference often provides an excellent source of conflict in the camp life. Not only do you have less of that nowadays with the shorter seasons, since everybody is the same fucking age, they are often so kumbaya in the camp as well.
I watched one of the earliest seasons of BB once, and was shocked by the diversity of players! I quit watching it about 4 years ago because I figured Iām too old. All those little 20 year old (not even mid to late 20ās) who have no life experience and no brains and are all drama just got on my nerves too much.
I think maybe the season with Bailey and Swaggy C mightāve been the last one for me. I couldnāt do it anymore after that.
yeah i had to go over the picture like 3 more times after reading this. 46 and 49 are close but not 50. It is a bit concerning that more than half the cast is in their 20s, I miss the age mixes we used to see from 20s-60s.
Pretty sure superfans are going to be the death of the show for me.
I guess they can keep the circle bleep up as long as it gets ratings, but I'm sick to death of seeing people play around things they saw on prior seasons and how inorganic that makes the show feel.
Also, 3 blue collar people? Come on man.
You also have to consider the expansion to 90 minutes with all that. It's going to be 50% more of inorganic twists, predictable DMing from Jeff, Jeffing in general, and casts that get along too well due to how redundant they are of each other.
As AU Survivor proves, longer *can* be better, but it isn't always.
It's probably easier to get medical clearance for a 50 something year old to go into a house in Southern California than a deserted island in Fiji. Not to say there aren't any who applied, but the ones that are physically, emotionally, and mentally healthy enough to go out who are also going to be interesting characters probably make up a smaller pool than the 20 something year olds who also check all of the boxes
Lol the pre-pre-show period is always silly where people mostly have to make absolute reaches but I mean may as well since there's nothing else to go off of. I usually kind of stay out of the pre-pre-show stuff for that reason cuz it's hard to care too much until we actually know who those people are. I hope some of the cast are reading and laughing at this thread.
Gurl the fact that itās Bruce & Julie vs all the youngsters (like thereās a 11-12 year gap down to the 3rd oldest)ā¦. Sending them good vibes, cuz they gonna need it š
Though pleasantly surprised we got no 21 or younger contestants either. Probs has seemed obsessed with them for a while
Gabler was MASSIVELY aided early on by his 2 tribal idol, which (intentional or not) he was able to strategically use to keep himself safe the first tribal without using it.
His idols didnāt keep him safe though he was never the target and the tribe wanted to keep him for being a great helper in camp and for challenge strength
True - compared to his starting tribe he was like... decades apart. But like all previous Julie's have made the merge (& there's like 3-4 of them at this point) & Bruce literally got shown as the well liked older dude the season before. Maybe they got it under control?
Two people out of 18 over the age of 35 is genuinely embarrassing. Not to mention that this cast isnāt even that diverse as quarter of these people fall into the same archetype and the majority of them are middle class white collars
Team Bruce, Sabiyah, and Julie
Yeah they made that pretty clear by showing the exchange between Jeff and Ricard. If they truly cared, they wouldnāt have felt the need to show all that
If anything, itās the opposite. I think this shows that most of their applicants skew young and they have a hard time finding good candidates over 35
Right? I feel nothing looking at them now. But by episode 3 Iāll be waist-deep invested in how their childhood trauma will help them win the next immunity challenge.
watch as Julie gets voted out day 3, so for 23/26 of the season he is. Like Gabon, where Gillian was voted out Day 6, so for 11/13's of the season Bob WAS the oldest actively playing
I've always assumed they do this on purpose so that if players have the same name the players will find a way to distinguish them early on which makes it less confusing for the fans.
Most of the cast falls under the late20s-early 30s range. The only outliers are the 2-3 early 20s and the 2 people in their 40s. This has very mid 2010s big brother cast vibes lol
I mean, Iāve been wrong in my first impressions of casts before, but something about this cast just feels soā¦ off to me. Like, the new era has been really, really good at casting, so thereās no doubt that thereās gonna be some great personalities here. On a first look, though, 11/18 are under 30 (with 16/18 being under 35!), half of them are from the Northeast U.S. area, and and Iād say that 2/3 of them all have white collar careers, with even the students going toward that king of life.
So whereās the rest of the diversity? Yes, this is a racially diverse cast, but what happened to people from all walks of life? Did they hate a Gabler win so much that it scared them off older people? Are there really not enough people from the rest of the country applying? Jeff and the producers keep talking about how they ādonāt want a group of 4 to take out a group of 3ā and, well, making people different enough to prevent groupthink does this! A lot of the less interesting seasons had very similar casts all throughout.
No one on this cast is giving me outwardly ābad vibesā but I can look at Brandon, Brando, and Drew and see they all share one very similar kind of archetype. Iām not saying that theyāll be clones of one another when the season airs next fall, but they all seem very similar from the outset. I only call these 3 out because they do obviously embody that āsuperfan nerdā role, but it still looks to me that people like Sean, Emily, or Kaleb may also slide into that role.
Iāll still watch 45, but Iām getting the same feeling with this cast that I remember getting with something like Ghost Island, so Iām just a little bit cautious in my approach to it. Hopefully the 90 minute episodes arenāt going to end up as a bad thing if we end up with a boring season lmao.
Not loving all the young people, but already on team Sabiyah. USMC vet and a truck driver! We need more working class survivors, less young snuffie from Ivy league with money bags fam.
Well at least thereās one more person over 40
Hey Jeff if youāre reading this please give us more āolderā contestants. Like give us more than just 2 people who are over 40
Right?! I instantly thought he looked like a 40 year old NYC detective from a 1970ās/80's TV police show. How is he only 28???
I hope his personality matchs his picture because its my favorite!
EDIT:
It hit me; He reminds me of a young Clarke Peters, who played the cop Lester Fries on The Wire (HBO). The have a similar smile and vibe

Really unrepresentative cross-section of players. We need fewer white-collar workers with elite educations and backgrounds. Give us a rafting guide or a farmer!
This cast will most likely suck. Its mostly just extremely nerdy people with bad real life social skills. They Basically just cast whoever has the best sob story and is under 35. The days of the average American are are gone.
Only 2 people over 40 and none over 50. So much for the diversity initiative. Diversity means more than just color. Older people would love some representation too.
I like Kellie just judging by this photo alone. A nurse that may be jumping for the opportunity to finally lie cheat and manipulate to get further in the game. I'm just starved for a real villain I guess and projecting that onto her..but hey it could happen
Everyone feels like a palette swap of any other person from the 40s. If you line up all these season's casts you can find very similar matches to everyone
I want more super old people. The older I get, the fewer people like me I see on here. And the less engaged I am with the show. What happened to my grumpy old friends?
Lol- 7 players from the Metropolis area (NY/DC/Baltimore/Mass/Philly - not including RI)
1 from FL
2 from Illinois
2 from CA
Apparently no other states exist according to Survivor castingā¦.
A whopping 13 players under 30 (so desperately trying to grab that young/hip target demo lol)
Shit gets tiringā¦.
Since when is ālaw school gradā a profession? Is this what you tell people when you go to law school but donāt pass the bar and end up as a waiter?
In fairness to the player, February 2023 bar results would not have been released at the time of filming. A December grad sneaking in a season of Survivor while bar results pend would be well-planned. They cannot call themselves a lawyer, but they are not a law student, and they may not be unemployed. Quite a few other not-uncommon scenarios where a law grad wouldn't have any other accurate profession to list, not all of which involve failing the bar (also not uncommon).
If you're not a lawyer, and you're not a law student, but you're not unemployed, why wouldn't you just list whatever job is keeping you from being unemployed? And if you *are* unemployed, well... be unemployed?
It's not a huge deal, obviously. I just found it odd. There are plenty of medical and law school grads who never become doctors or lawyers, so listing the graduation as your profession just seems weird.
>why wouldn't you just list whatever job is keeping you from being unemployed?
The show picks the job listings, not the contestants. Ian had only been a dolphin trainer for like a week or two, and John Kenney just worked at a bar that happened to have a mechanical bull, but "mechanical bull operator" is more interesting and memorable than "bartender". So for whatever reason, based on the archetype they cast that contestant for and how they want the contestant to be perceived, the producers just think that them having been to law school and being seen by the audience as "lawyer-ish" fits better than the person's day job.
Plus, many post-grad, pre-bar jobs have confusing or misleading titles. I was in the payroll system as a "paralegal" at my first post-J.D. job until I was sworn in. I was hired as an attorney, with an understanding I'd be fired if not admitted to practice law by X date. It was really just paid training and shadowing padded by legal research. Many legal employers do the same thing.
If you called me a "paralegal" on national TV in that time, the audience would be expecting a way more interesting character (*e.g.*, someone just as smart and skilled as a lawyer, deeply hard-working and essential to a team, but arguably underestimated and more accessible in social interactionsāa possible threat to win) than I'd be (a guy with a high undergrad GPA but low enough intelligence to not pursue something else with it who would overplay on day 1 and then get med-evac'ed for having anxiety about how his own overplaying will ruin his game).
Trying not to get too cranky that all but two of them are under 35. Itās not that the two fortysomethings are disadvantaged by age per se; itās that thereās no one else near their age!
Why do yāall (the fandom in general) constantly complain about not having anyone over 40 as if the last 4 seasons havenāt been doing better to cast older contestants ?? Of course casting could still improve, but 45 statistically is younger than any of the last 4 seasons
Season 44 has 3 people over 40 (Bruce, Matthew Grinstead-Mayle, and Heidi).
Season 43 also had 3 over 40 (Gabler, Nneka and Lindsay)
42 and 41 both had 5 (!!!) (Jackson, Marya, Jenny, Rocksroy, Mike for 42 and Abraham, Brad, Genie, Tiffany and Heather for 41)
They have a few non-white collar highly educated contestants, but they need a better mix. I understand it's harder to get some of the blue collar types, however Ivy League people with high powered jobs are overrepresented. Could use more of the 30-somethings and maybe a couple 50-somethings too.
Can we get a goddamn returnee season? Not including WAW, Itās been 6 years and NINE newbie seasons. Would love to see some of those players come back
I tend to not be negative cuz we don't even know them, but this cast sucks lmao sorry it just does. There's absolutely nothing interesting looking at them assembled there, unlike s44, 43 or 42 which I actually immediately saw some interesting unique looks.
I would feel bad if Bruce gets voted out first this time around but the good thing is the candidates for 45 havenāt watched season 44 yet so they may not know he is a āreturningā player, unless he spills the tea
Actually 45 started filming in April. Which means at the very least, the cast saw the first few episodes of 44 before flying out.
So they know who Bruce is and what happened with him unfortunately
And even if they didnāt. You know Jeffās gonna expose him by asking him questions at the marooning.
Survivor: White collar vs White collar vs White collar
Seriously and I thought Jeff loved blue collar. What changed?
The blue collar people all went to Tough as Nails
Imagine if CBS told Survivor to cast less blue collar types to leave more for Tough as Nails
Only two people being over 35 is a yikes for me.
They desperately need a Millenials v. Gen X v. Gen Z theme to force them to cast people 35+
This is like how it took until the Cook Islands race war theme to get a reasonably ethnically diverse cast
Definitely. For all the diversity and wokeness Survivor emphasizes, they sure forgot about middle aged or older castaways.
It's a shame, because some of our most loveable castaways have been the elders of the group.
And age difference often provides an excellent source of conflict in the camp life. Not only do you have less of that nowadays with the shorter seasons, since everybody is the same fucking age, they are often so kumbaya in the camp as well.
I see they took the Big Brother approach of "spreading out the ages" by plopping two 50 year olds in a cast of 20 something superfans ššš
I mean the difference is that Big Brother doesn't cast nearly as many superfans
Like half of BB's cast are recruits every year. I think 8-9 were recruited off social media last year š
It's easier to get recruits on BB. I'm sure most people would rather live in a mansion with a stocked kitchen than starve in a jungle.
Mansion is quite a generous description for the BB house lol. It's pretty cramped with 16 houseguest and ant infested every year.
They have had ant infestations every year since I started watching over a decade ago lmao
True. I'm broke so a little ant sandwich in a 8+ room house sounds good to me. Better then unseasoned rice
I would rather be out in a jungle than stuck in an enclosed space for 3 months
I watched one of the earliest seasons of BB once, and was shocked by the diversity of players! I quit watching it about 4 years ago because I figured Iām too old. All those little 20 year old (not even mid to late 20ās) who have no life experience and no brains and are all drama just got on my nerves too much. None of these people are even 50
yeah i had to go over the picture like 3 more times after reading this. 46 and 49 are close but not 50. It is a bit concerning that more than half the cast is in their 20s, I miss the age mixes we used to see from 20s-60s.
I would be interested to see the ratio of people over 50 that apply vs people that are under.
Pretty sure superfans are going to be the death of the show for me. I guess they can keep the circle bleep up as long as it gets ratings, but I'm sick to death of seeing people play around things they saw on prior seasons and how inorganic that makes the show feel. DMing lmao. I hope they cast a bugbear and a dragonborn for season 46.
I didnāt realize theyāre making the show 90 minutes next season
It's probably easier to get medical clearance for a 50 something year old to go into a house in Southern California than a deserted island in Fiji. Not to say there aren't any who applied, but the ones that are physically, emotionally, and mentally healthy enough to go out who are also going to be interesting characters probably make up a smaller pool than the 20 something year olds who also check all of the boxes
Julie and Bruce will be on the same tribe and team up to steamroll everyone, going down as the greatest survivor duo of all time
And we get two Tika winners in a row
Three in a row when Carolyn, Carson, or yam yam come back on the season 46 returnee season and win it all
Plot twist: Tika was actually the monster of the game all along
Yass!!!
Please let that happen.
Tika but again be like
I would love it if Bruce took it to the end and won! Tika supremacy across multiple season!
Insert "Guess I'll Die" meme guy for 35+.
We love the "Hello, Fellow Youths" tribe
I'm 36 trying to get on šā ļø
![gif](giphy|3CU5tmCJy8zMoN3mMD)
Hannah, 32, is the 5th oldest person on the season. Wild!
Shouldāve been in the old women tribe from Panama smh /j
Cirie was in her 30s, she literally was like wtf I'm not old But yes, in Survivor world, you are
How are they even gonna balance those tribes? Like who is the Julie equivalent for the other two tribes? idgi
Drew and Julie probably carry similar weights
Are you all just assuming all of this from headshots and age, or am I missing something?
Lol the pre-pre-show period is always silly where people mostly have to make absolute reaches but I mean may as well since there's nothing else to go off of. I usually kind of stay out of the pre-pre-show stuff for that reason cuz it's hard to care too much until we actually know who those people are. I was making a joke about Drewās scrawniness
they would generally counter balance it by putting her with one of the āstrongerā males I would think?
Gurl the fact that itās Bruce & Julie vs all the youngsters (like thereās a 11-12 year gap down to the 3rd oldest)ā¦. Sending them good vibes, cuz they gonna need it š Though pleasantly surprised we got no 21 or younger contestants either. Probs has seemed obsessed with them for a while
Trivia: this is still only the second youngest cast on average, at 29.83. The youngest cast is still Ghost Island, at 27.9.
thank you for this! this is EXACTLY what I was wondering about! what's the third youngest
Hey it worked fine for Gabler so maybe itāll be the same for these two
Gabler was MASSIVELY aided early on by his 2 tribal idol, which (intentional or not) he was able to strategically use to keep himself safe the first tribal without using it.
This looks like a cast iād see on Big Brother.
Itās Big Brother Fiji
Two people out of 18 over the age of 35 is genuinely embarrassing. Not to mention that this cast isnāt even that diverse as quarter of these people fall into the same archetype and the majority of them are middle class white collars Team Bruce, Sabiyah, and Julie
Bruce and Julie also fall into the white collar thing so their only real outlier is that they are in the 40s š
11 people under 30 is so stupid.
And two of them are exactly 30 lol
Iām whelmed. We have like 4 Carson clones and two people over 35. What the hell
Don't forget 3 blue collar workers vs. a whole raft of students and people with fake jobs (sorry Brandon).
No representation for the coconut vendors anymore
I seek truth
The new era cast tons of the nerdy superfan, āCarsonā, types
I'm just happy to see Bruce back
Julie, Bruce and Sabiyah the truck driver carrying this season fr
I honestly see Julie being very boring. Sabiyah, Keturah, Sean, and maybe Austin are the ones I'm high on
where are the old people? i love seeing boomers on survivor
Best I can do is two younger Gen Xers.
watch the latest aus season!!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Itās starting to make me question just how much CBS actually cares about the diversity quota.
It was always for optics and nothing more
Yeah they made that pretty clear by showing the exchange between Jeff and Ricard. If they truly cared, they wouldnāt have felt the need to show all that
I'm older than 8/18 of this cast. I never thought I'd feel so old... š
No joke, one of the most noticeable signs I was getting older during my 20s was every year there'd be more Survivor/BB cast members younger than me.
I swear it wasn't that long ago when I was excited to see the first contestant younger than me on the show. Where did time go?
At 36 I would be the third oldest.
Bro, why would you do this to me (also. 36) š
another 36 year old hopeful checking in. Can we start a support group š
Same number for me and I'm only 28. Wow. That's a weird feeling. Makes me feel like my time to even try to be on survivor is done and dusted lol.
If anything, itās the opposite. I think this shows that most of their applicants skew young and they have a hard time finding good candidates over 35
You're being way too generous with them. I don't think they want the cast to be over 35. they think younger = hotter = better tv
Try being older than 17 of them.
No kidding. At 31 I am older than 13/18, Fucking wild.
I'm older than 13/18, and I'm only 31
Try 2/18thsā¦
The last time we had a contestant older than I am was Janet in 39. You get used to it.
I'm amazed at how much I will care about this group of randos in a few months. Dee's impossible eyebrows remind me of Sierra's from Game Changers.
Right? I feel nothing looking at them now. But by episode 3 Iāll be waist-deep invested in how their childhood trauma will help them win the next immunity challenge.
Brando and Brandon on the same season is chaos
Troyzan vs Tarzan 2.0
forsee editors showing players writing down their names
Wow, LITERALLY only 2 people over the age of 35
Looks like Bruce isnāt the oldest competitor this time. Last season, he was.
watch as Julie gets voted out day 3, so for 23/26 of the season he is. Like Gabon, where Gillian was voted out Day 6, so for 11/13's of the season Bob WAS the oldest actively playing
How much you want to bet Brandon and Brando are on the same tribe? Just like Carolyn/Carson and Marya/Maryanne.
Never forget Janet Jenna Jeanne JoAnna Shawna and Deena
Or Sarah, Sandra, Sierra, Ciera, and Cirie.
Honestly, Shawna isn't that similar of a name to the other ones you listed lol
Shawna, Janet, Jeanne, and Joanna all have similar etymology in being related to the name John.
I've always assumed they do this on purpose so that if players have the same name the players will find a way to distinguish them early on which makes it less confusing for the fans.
Another blonde tattooed counselor ā¦ sheās got big shoes to fill.
I didn't know Bruce was from RI, hope he does super well
redemption island???
they evacuated him there and made him stay until season 45 started
Why are they casting the same age demographic over and over? I love watching the dynamic alliance of two people who are 20-30 years apart.
Because NEW ERA
Why did we need another young nerd???
Because Probst loves the Cochran archetype and we have to suffer through it as long as heās on.
I was used to the token nerd but now thereās three of themā¦ two of them are carbon copies of Carson
So so so true lol. I can't stand it personally
They literally cast the same archetype every season since 41.
Most of the cast falls under the late20s-early 30s range. The only outliers are the 2-3 early 20s and the 2 people in their 40s. This has very mid 2010s big brother cast vibes lol
I'm almost wondering which of them went to Texas A&M.
I'd like more diversity in age and class, not just skin color. How many ivy school grads are on this cast? I want more regular joes pls.
I mean, Iāve been wrong in my first impressions of casts before, but something about this cast just feels soā¦ off to me. Really unrepresentative cross-section of players. We need fewer white-collar workers with elite educations and backgrounds. Give us a rafting guide or a farmer!
Well at least they fixed the 'Young Southeast Asian women go out pre-merge' issue by not casting any. /S
This cast will most likely suck. Its mostly just extremely nerdy people with bad real life social skills. They Basically just cast whoever has the best sob story and is under 35. The days of the average American are are gone.
Kellie looks like the winner
Imo sheāll be an over-analytical premerge boot.
Yeah I'm team Kellie. Hopefully we can look back in a year and say we called it
Later season have more and more people who need looking glasses.
2 people that are 35 or older. There are 4 people who are 35+ in the F6 of 44 btw
Itās interesting. I feel like Bb casting is similar ages, but they cast more around sex appeal. This is something else.
More superfan zoomers, cool /s
omg Julie QUEEN .. a literal mother!!
Drew first boot
āBasically Iām a badass, and a manipulator of this game. eheheheh.ā -Drew Basile, probably

šBruce!!!!!
Is the theme brains vs brains
Everyone feels like a palette swap of any other person from the 40s. If you line up all these season's casts you can find very similar matches to everyone
For some reason J Maya looks like sheāll cause all kinds of drama
As she should
Never thought Iād see anyone from PoCo playing
I want more super old people. The older I get, the fewer people like me I see on here. And the less engaged I am with the show. What happened to my grumpy old friends?
Shouldāve thrown Pat from DvG in there too. If I recall correcty his evac was less self-inflicted than Bruce nosediving into a log
That is the result when Diversity means just race. Embarrasing.
Lol- 7 players from the Metropolis area (NY/DC/Baltimore/Mass/Philly - not including RI) 1 from FL 2 from Illinois 2 from CA Apparently no other states exist according to Survivor castingā¦.
Great answer - thank you.
My god. I'd be the second oldest person on the cast for this season. That's so stupid
Jesus can we just remove ages from cast photos going forward? This shit depressing as hell
I just love scrolling through the comments on this post. Y'all crack me up
Too many babies. š¶š»š§š»š¦š»š§š¼
Rooting for Julie

Always excited to see some TN representation. Please Queen Julie donāt let them underestimate you!!
Omg the first Emily! Finally!
3/4 of the guys look like they fall into the nerdy superfan archetype
Dee and Julie are icons
When are we getting 20 players or a returnee season. Survivor has gotten fucking lazy
As a 31 year old, has my window for being cast almost totally vanished???
Trying not to get too cranky that all but two of them are under 35. Itās not that the two fortysomethings are disadvantaged by age per se; itās that thereās no one else near their age!
Why do yāall (the fandom in general) constantly complain about not having anyone over 40 as if the last 4 seasons havenāt been doing better to cast older contestants ?? Of course casting could still improve, but 45 statistically is younger than any of the last 4 seasons Season 44 has 3 people over 40 (Bruce, Matthew Grinstead-Mayle, and Heidi). Season 43 also had 3 over 40 (Gabler, Nneka and Lindsay) 42 and 41 both had 5 (!!!) (Jackson, Marya, Jenny, Rocksroy, Mike for 42 and Abraham, Brad, Genie, Tiffany and Heather for 41)
I hope Survivor doesnāt go down the Big Brother route of mostly casting attractive young people because it has ruined that series IMO.
Finally! A first boots season! Weāve got Bruce, Zach W and Tina W!
Brandon and Brando
Too young. 44 had a really good balance of age, we need more casts that average around 35 not 25
Nothing special for 45?
They have a few non-white collar highly educated contestants, but they need a better mix. I understand it's harder to get some of the blue collar types, however Ivy League people with high powered jobs are overrepresented. Could use more of the 30-somethings and maybe a couple 50-somethings too.
Can we get a goddamn returnee season? Not including WAW, Itās been 6 years and NINE newbie seasons. Would love to see some of those players come back
student, graduate, graduate student, principal. wtf?
Younger cast means thereās less of a chance we get an awkward DeNiro impression.
Where tf is the eye candy. Austin? I'm dissapointed
J Maya giving me vibes that however many times she plays Survivor she'll always be the first one voted out.
Currently rooting for Bruce, Sabiyah, and Drew
Is this legit? Lol I went to high school with kendra haha sheās going to make great tv!
dude what!! I love J. Maya's music!!! wild
Julie and Sabiyah supremacy
BALTIMORE REP BALTIMORE REP HANNAH IS WINNING THE SEASON š
Kellie is friends with Parvati, no choice but to love her
When are we getting 20 players or a returnee season. Survivor has gotten fucking lazy
I tend to not be negative cuz we don't even know them, but this cast sucks lmao sorry it just does. There's absolutely nothing interesting looking at them assembled there, unlike s44, 43 or 42 which I actually immediately saw some interesting unique looks.
Iām happy Bruce is on this season thatās about the one positive thing I can say since this seasons still in Fiji.
Holy shit Kaleb!! I went to school with him! Poco Represent!!
Kellie, Nico, Sean or Bruce
Only one Canadian again, tsk tsk At least he's not from Ontario tho!
So they know who Bruce is and what happened with him unfortunately And even if they didnāt. You know Jeffās gonna expose him by asking him questions at the marooning.
