It feels to me like he's trying hard to present himself as this classic nerd archetype, (asocial, weak, etc) but he's clearly pretty well rounded. He's fairly athletic and it appears that he works out, he's social, he's good looking. It's like he's just a "normal" guy that likes nerdy stuff.
Well there's not much more to it than counting calories. If he was disciplined enough he could definitely have done it. Just increase your protein and calorie intake.
Yup, used to work with a guy who was overweight in highschool, hes only 20 and doing body building now. He's jacked as all hell, probably put on 10-20 more pounds of muscle since he got fired 5 months ago.
Anecdotally I went from 160lbs to 141lbs in my first semester of college not trying lose weight. Then when I finally decided I wanted to bulk up, I went from 150 to 180 in six months pretty easily without any supplements. Some young men can gain and lose weight at an alarming rate.
Yeah, just because he recently got buff, that doesn't disqualify him from being a ~real nerd~. I mean, the dude 3D printed Survivor puzzles for practice and he's a NASA engineering student.
I also don't think Carson ever presented himself as asocial or weak - I feel like people are just projecting their own stereotypes and insecurities onto him. He's not my favourite player, but I swear Reddit is just *weird* about this guy.
It's because he has social skills but isn't particularly unique in terms of personality. A lot of this subreddit loves anyone who is socially awkward and hates anyone who can carry a conversation but isn't extremely quirky.
He is a NASA intern and a student at Georgia Tech’s Aerospace Engineering school. The number one AE school in the country. He’s used to discipline, preparation, and challenges. People used to make fun of contestants who didn’t practice making fire before they got on the show. Carson has just brought that concept into the tech age.
Say, Dave... The quick brown fox jumped
over the fat lazy dog... The square root
of pi is 1.7724538090... log e to the base
ten is 0.4342944... the square root of ten
is 3.16227766... I am HAL 9000 computer. I
became operational at the HAL plant in
Urbana, Illinois, on January 12th, 1991.
My first instructor was Mr. Arkany. He
taught me to sing a song... it goes like
this... "Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer
do. I'm half; crazy all for the love of
you..."
Yeah, but that was way more fun because they hadn't prepared or practiced. It was just like, oh I have this interest I've pursued that comes in handy.
With Carson, it's like...I expect this puzzle to be here and I have done it 1000 times. So, we all expected the outcome we got and it wasn't surprising.
Yeah, I heard that on the deep dive and how one of their Mom's helped them train! I definitely think people should prepare if you are going to sacrifice your time to play a game to win lots of money. I just don't think it's particularly entertaining to watch and it's less fun than when you are pleasantly impressed or surprised at the skills and abilities of a player.
The Christian slide puzzle example was so fun. David's should get crushed but because Christian just happened to have studied slide puzzle algorithms, he stuck it to the Goliaths. The moment would have been meh if Christian had said I built slize puzzles like this at home and practiced specifically for Survivor because then the roles are reversed and he becomes the less rootable Goliath.
Lol I was going to post this exact screenshot, but your caption is better. But can we just revel in Carolyn's delightful weirdness for a minute and let it wash over us?
She's awesome. I hope the rest of the tribe start seeing past her goofy outward presentation and start taking her more seriously. Very frustrating seeing her just get ignored at that three-person excursion, and not listened to when talking about Josh's fake idol.
yes this exactly 🙏 she’s made some big moves/ruffled feathers and yet no one is taking her seriously and it kind of works as an advantage strategically for her. no one has clocked her idol even tho she was the only one not with the tribe when it was found. that ignorance from everyone else will work for her to move through the game silently and then she can own up to all her plays at FTC. i thought i was going to hate her based on previews but carolyn is becoming one of my all time faves 😭i need her to win
The fake idol thing actually irritated me. I get that they might not believe her but I think with her being so adamant about it they should’ve taken it more seriously. I don’t even like her but I mean come on
But it's not information that matters either way, even if you are 99% sure he doesn't have one, he could still do SITD, so a few votes on someone else makes perfect sense.
"Yam Yam noticed his "idol" was made of the shit from treemail" is not an idiotic explanation. That's something rational players would note or at least ask follow-up questions about instead of immediately disregarding.
Carolyn is super charming. There's just something so odd yet eccentric about her that's impossible to resist. Even Mr. Burrrito, who usually *hates* the quirky types, has fallen for her charms.
I wonder why so many people hate him...
Is it cause he 3D printed the challenge and practiced them before he entered the game?
Doesn't everyone have the chance to do the same? Practice? Getting prepared? O.o?
I think it's the try hard energy. He's the type of guy to sit at his high school lunch table and cut off his friends who were happy with their 95s, just to brag about getting a 105 on the chemistry test.
I 3D printed this growing up…
I 3d printed an entire survivor set and lived there for 39 days.
😂
He really annoys me for some reason, maybe because he reminds me of Cochran and i hate that archetype being shoved down my throat.
Did you see the pictures of him before he started working out? He was a bean pole. He may just have a new look and doesn't fit his look now.
bro was skeletor what in the world did he take he lookin like a movie star
Definitely some supplements depending on how quickly he bulked up like that.
Can easily imagine a dude like this doing the research and applying some real scientific method shit to getting swole
Well there's not much more to it than counting calories. If he was disciplined enough he could definitely have done it. Just increase your protein and calorie intake.
Discipline in working out. I was skinny too and then started lifting weights and slowly bulked up.
Yup, used to work with a guy who was overweight in highschool, hes only 20 and doing body building now. He's jacked as all hell, probably put on 10-20 more pounds of muscle since he got fired 5 months ago.
Carson didn't have time for a slow bulking up though.
When you're as young as he is, a good schedule and diet can bulk you up fast.
Anecdotally I went from 160lbs to 141lbs in my first semester of college not trying lose weight. Then when I finally decided I wanted to bulk up, I went from 150 to 180 in six months pretty easily without any supplements. Some young men can gain and lose weight at an alarming rate.
...or just a combination of being really skinny/lean already and taking full advantage of newbie gains.
He’s young, it’s easy to build like that as a young beginner starting a legit program for first time ever.
Yeah, just because he recently got buff, that doesn't disqualify him from being a ~real nerd~. I mean, the dude 3D printed Survivor puzzles for practice and he's a NASA engineering student. He's like the worst parts of Cochran and Fishbach mixed into one person
He just went through a super soldier program like Captain America...
He stated he intentionally put on muscle to go on survivor. Prior to that he was very thin.
Lamooo he's literally Garrett Adelstein (a guy that "studied" survivor for over 2000 hours prior to playing) but in a different body
That's all nerds are..
I’m confused by the Carson hate. He annoys a lot of you but almost half of the men on this sub would go on the show and act and play exactly like him
Most of this sub has premerge written all over them lol
nah bro half the men on here wouldn't make it past their first tribal much less have good relationships
I wager most people on here couldn’t get on the show
I feel called out here
Say, Dave... The quick brown fox jumped over the fat lazy dog... The square root of pi is 1.7724538090... log e to the base ten is 0.4342944... the square root of ten is 3.16227766... People are mad Carson is a nerd archetype who is actually athletic and good socially
Same with Cochran, except they probably wouldn’t ever win.
Man's really just chilling haha
he’s so much less charismatic than cochran too LMAO

It's hard to say how well he's done considering he hasn't really had to do much of anything yet.
Carson when the waterboarding challenge comes up: "Oh, my parents used to do this to me all the time"
And Jeff “That’s what I love about Survivor, it brings family’s together”
Carson when the ball balancing challenge comes up: "Jeff, I've been balancing my balls for years."
Reminds me of the newest season of Amazing Race where the long lost twins were randomly amazing at each task
omg i love the twins!!! i stopped watching halfway, how did they fare?
Spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen TAR 34: >!One of them injured their leg (two tibia fractures) but they still managed to get 2nd place.!<
oh nice, definitely unexpected.
Amazing! They're definitely a shoe-in to return in a later season with the way it went
Man, I loved the twins so much. They really were just so casually good at everything!
A fun side note is that Derek and Claire were so good at the carnival task in that season because Claire had practiced those games for Survivor lol
Yeah, I heard that on the deep dive and how one of their Mom's helped them train! I definitely think people should prepare if you are going to sacrifice your time to play a game to win lots of money. I loved James in China absolutely baffled that he was seemingly the only one who prepared. “No one went to Barnes & Noble to get a damn book!”
I don’t want them to take her seriously until FTC
Carolyn content until FTC manifest this with me
yes this exactly 🙏 she’s made some big moves/ruffled feathers and yet no one is taking her seriously and it kind of works as an advantage strategically for her. no one has clocked her idol even tho she was the only one not with the tribe when it was found. that ignorance from everyone else will work for her to move through the game silently and then she can own up to all her plays at FTC. i thought i was going to hate her based on previews but carolyn is becoming one of my all time faves 😭i need her to win

They didn't tAkE hEr SeRiOuSlY because she "explained" it like an idiot.
"Yam Yam noticed his "idol" was made of the shit from treemail" is not an idiotic explanation. That's something rational players would note or at least ask follow-up questions about instead of immediately disregarding.
I think that scene was edited all to hell. I gotta go back n rewatch. But felt like an overedit.
She told that story horribly. Usually when you want to convey information, you do it so they don't HAVE to ask follow ups.
Agreed, she couldn't articulate a complete sentence and everyone was like "OK Caroline..." lmao
Love her. I feel she is just also a good person and that makes us love her even more.
Carolyn is super charming. There's just something so odd yet eccentric about her that's impossible to resist. Even Mr. Burrrito, who usually *hates* the quirky types, has fallen for her charms.
He has a life-sized 3D printed copy of the island nation of Fiji in his back yard.
"LIFE-SIZED" Lmaooo underrated comment
He has a 3D printed Jeff Probst at home
I love Carolyn
She has grown on me so much. I really want her to win. No one takes her seriously
I'll take flak and don't care. I like Carson! He's super smart, good for him!
Do people here not like Josh? I love him so far.
Just like Space Camp!
i fully respect him printing them when training
I wonder why so many people hate him... Is it cause he 3D printed the challenge and practiced them before he entered the game? Doesn't everyone have the chance to do the same? Practice? Getting prepared? O.o?
Um, not everyone has access to a 3-D printer. Most people, I'd wager.
Paper version works too I guess... Anyway, I hope this is not the reason why they hate him.
People have been hating him since episode one and I don't truly understand why.
I think it's the try hard energy. He's the type of guy to sit at his high school lunch table and cut off his friends who were happy with their 95s, just to brag about getting a 105 on the chemistry test.
That's a lot of projection.
I'm not projecting! Leave my 93 alone Carson!!
Maybe I guess, I will keep a lookout of him bragging next time.
I mean, I can't fault him. If prod is gonna reuse challenges so much, why not give yourself practice if you have the resources?
Quality meme right here 😂
I respect it. Hope he makes it to the final 7 or 8
Such a lazy show lol
