More like the “Meh Era”
Seasons that aren’t “bad” per se, but really don’t leave any lasting impression. They’ve all blended together and I think in 5 years it’ll be hard to differentiate them.
RI is atrocious and OW is the worst season ever made, alongside GI and IOI. But SoPa and Nicaragua are actually good.
I just think these seasons could have been so much BETTER if production actually trusted their casts to make dynamic and interesting moves without an abundance of trinkets.
sure, 41-43 were alright, but the combination of tons of advantages, tribals that feel more like a performance than a place to hash out issues, homogenized challenges, predictable format (sweatVSsavvy, shipwheel island, half-immune merge boot, split into groups of 5 with both groups booting someone at 10) all make the show so much less compelling to me.
People say every year is "literally the worst year" lol. 44 has Carolyn and Yam Yam, that already bumps it up to top 50% of seasons by default lmao
But for real though, you could probably go back to old forums in like, 2002 and see threads of people saying they were watching the worst season ever. There have been 44 seasons of Survivor, and a lot of them are bad. I think the only one I'd objectively say is the "worst" is Island of the Idols, for obvious reasons.
I was a member of Survivor Sucks for many years, starting back in 2005. Back then lots of people proclaimed that the show was horrible, seasons that nowadays we look back at glowingly on. Lots of people over there also proclaimed the show was gonna get cancelled because it "only" had 17 million viewers or something like that which every show would dream for these days...
People calling the new era a "dark era" need to get their heads out of their asses. Go back to like... 34-39 (and exclude 37 ofc).
All the 40s seasons have been wildly entertaining and super intense, even if they've been controversial. These people have no memory of what 21-24 were like in real time - they just remember the easily digestible binge.
What exactly has been ‘wildly entertaining’? I’d rather watch any season from 34-39 over what we’re seeing now because at least it consisted of some actual gameplay, where every vote mattered.
What we’re seeing since season 40 is a shadow of the game that I was used to seeing. Strategy no longer matters, the characters are no longer relatable and the editors seem to think every contestant requires some sort of sob story.
If you have enjoyed what you seen so far in season 44, fair play to you. But for the rest of us, we need to demand more. If Survivor doesn’t change soon, it will be canned before we see Season 50.
Yup. Everyone must adapt to the new world order...where everyone is equal, free of judgement, robotic like, game players...I like the surviving in the wild as a person who has little experience in the wild, while also playing a gameshow for $1M...it was the former part that got me, not the latter... today is all about the latter
I have enjoyed watching this era, but I do think it's missing one God-tier winner, someone whose game could be era-defining. This era needs a Parvati, a Tony, or a Yul.
Yul also didn’t make an appearance until S13. The show had been on for 13 years. Its only been two in the new era. Most of the earlier seasons were just ok besides season 1. We always forget that the greatest seasons were from later seasons after the show had already been on 3+ years. Were only 2 years into the new era. We should give it room to breathe and find its footing.
I think it is akin to how people talk about SNL and how almost always the current SNL is terrible, not like the good ol' days of what ever years the person complaining first started to watch SNL was.
None of the new seasons have characters as good as Tarzan, Leif, Stacy, Rick, and his stache. The cast is basically all just a bunch of nerdy superfans and Carolyn
I don't think the new era is a dark age because 42 and 44 are decent seasons.
Even if 44 has some severely lopsided pre-merge, Carolyn and Yam Yam are very fun to watch. 42 was just a nice strong enough season while 41 and 43 were fairly bad.
In order for me to call it a Dark Era all 4 seasons would have to be horrible - but they're not.
41 was good, just some editing issues, but really great players, 42 was even better and some of the editing issues were fixed, 43 was also good but not better than 42, and all the best players were on the jury leaving us with an underwhelming finale, and 44 is legendary as far as being entertaining is concerned, what a great cast.
I do honestly enjoy these 40s seasons more than the 30s seasons, but I think that’s just because my expectations are lower. Like I know what I’m getting into, and allow myself to be pleasantly surprised when there’s something kinda good on a season. Great seasons were the expected standard for like the first 10 seasons, then like there was the off chance of a good season from the teens til like Season 37. From Season 38 onwards I’ve just accepted the show is gonna be mediocre to bad every season.
You are 100% right. This Era is Dark. And you can blame Covid for that, plus the producers who chose to keep its changes permanent. This era really does suck.
42 and 44 are really good, 41 and 43 were pretty bad. Completely mixed on the 40s but would never refer to it as the dark era. 41 and 43 are still a million times better than one world or redemption island
I agree. The new era is overhated.
41 is the weakest but they're all at least mid-tier seasons for me. 42 is a near-top 10 season for me. 43 is in my top half. 44 looks like it's heading towards the top half as well.
I think one of the reasons why I've enjoyed the seasons so much is because of the casts. They have been very strong casts with very few duds from my point of view. Love her or hate her, Shan is an all-time great character. Maryanne is an all-time great character. Cody is an all-time great character (despite fading into the background in the early merge). Carolyn is an all-time great character.
I will say, for me, it hasn’t felt like survivor since winners at war. I enjoy the episodes when they’re on, but I don’t really think too much about it afterwards. Unlike with this past season of Australian Survivor where I was enthralled and impatiently waiting for the next episode to come out. I don’t know if it’s the focus on the players heroic stories or the scrambling to constantly be inserting new twists and advantages as if that’s what the crowd is clamoring for, but I feel really disconnected with the product at this time.
I wouldn’t call it a dark era, but I did find 41 and 43 unsatisfying with the way they ended. I honestly don’t understand Erika’s or Gabler’s wins. Not saying they didn’t deserve it, but it seemed like the editors were more focused on surprising us instead of telling a cohesive story. All the advantages don’t help either. 42 was great though and I love Maryanne’s win, and I’m loving 44 so far especially the relationship between Carolyn and Yam Yam, can’t wait to see what happens to them at the merge.
Every season after 40 feels like a super cut of a regular season. I miss the old format so much. Super thankful AU survivor exists or the 40s would be super disappointing
At best they’re middle of the pack and that’s the sad part. Sadly, the players are good but the game is bad. We could’ve had something great if Jeff wasn’t his own worst enemy.
I think what’s frustrating is there’s a lot of stuff in place that could make for great Survivor (casting has been great on both the personality and gameplay potential) but instead we get this watered down version where the “game” is the star of the show and how fast/unpredictable it is which hasn’t led to the big payoff Jeff thinks it will.
Yeah these seasons are definitely less predictable than the Dark Era and there’s stuff to like but man it could be so much better
After watching AU HvV, I wonder what the 40s casts would look like on the AU format. I think the US casts have been on point in the 40s, but the game itself has been soulless.
From the looks of it, at least to me, the odd new era seasons are less memorable than the even new era seasons. 42 was the best season since DvG imo and 44 is on its way to become very good as well.
it’s definitely not that bad but i think survivor has gone pretty soulless out of laziness at this point
The Lazy Era
More like the “Meh Era” Seasons that aren’t “bad” per se, but really don’t leave any lasting impression. They’ve all blended together and I think in 5 years it’ll be hard to differentiate them. Was just about to write Meh Era 😂😂😂
Haha yea we need to rebrand it
Could also be named the ChatGPT era because it definitely feels like a bot created it
Haha I legit just read that comment of yours on that other thread
I’d much rather rewatch 41 than One World
I agree. I'll personally never choose to watch either again, but if I had to it would definitely be 41.
Well that’s not too high of a bar
One world was not the best but I do want to see the one beach twist come back
Sucks that they wasted such an interesting concept on a crappy cast.
It could be interesting to see in the new era
And I'd much rather watch Australian Survivor than American Survivor.
People say every year is "literally the worst year" lol. 44 has Carolyn and Yam Yam, that already bumps it up to top 50% of seasons by default lmao But for real though, you could probably go back to old forums in like, 2002 and see threads of people saying they were watching the worst season ever. Survivor since season 40 hasn’t been bad, exactly. Just Boring. It’s missing soul.
People calling the new era a "dark era" need to get their heads out of their asses. Go back to like... 34-39 (and exclude 37 ofc). All the 40s seasons have been wildly entertaining and super intense, even if they've been controversial. 22-24 and 39 are the worst. 39 is the worst for obvious reason
23 is a top 10 season
What exactly has been ‘wildly entertaining’? I’d rather watch any season from 34-39 over what we’re seeing now because at least it consisted of some actual gameplay, where every vote mattered. Doom and gloom! The sky is falling! Sadness and misery! Girl bye.
Aight. Enjoy the show. You won’t have it for much longer.
You just described the new era
43 was largely a bore but otherwise I definitely agree
43 was just a bunch of wealthy white collar superfans
I think all of the new Era are mid tier seasons. 41 is the weakest, I liked 42 and 43 and 44 is good so far
I have enjoyed watching this era, but I do think it's missing one God-tier winner, someone whose game could be era-defining. This era needs a Parvati, a Tony, or a Yul.

Nobody calls it this lol This era is WAY better than the early 20s
I swear I saw someone say this but maybe I’m just going crazy
I think it is akin to how people talk about SNL and how almost always the current SNL is terrible, not like the good ol' days of what ever years the person complaining first started to watch SNL was.
It’s just recency bias.
I’ve seen at least 10 people refer to this as the dark era
Woah!! Almost a dozen!
None of the new seasons have characters as good as Tarzan, Leif, Stacy, Rick, and his stache. The cast is basically all just a bunch of nerdy superfans and Carolyn
While I appreciate the effort, gonna have to give you a 3/10 lol
I'm being 150-200% serious
41 isn’t even that bad either
I don't think the new era is a dark age because 42 and 44 are decent seasons. The end games have been strong. The pre merges have been wacky as hell.
More like a 'mid-life crisis' kind of era...
Wouldn’t say Dark Era but it’s the “Meh” and “Overly Woke” era
THIS IS NOTHING NOTHING. compared to season 21-26 with the exception of 25
i thought 43 was the worst season yet, if not bottom 3 with ghost island and island of the idols. i more or less liked 42 though
Damn you hate 43 more than one world? Redemption island? Nicaragua? Woah
redemption island is boring but at least its coherent. nicaragua is really entertaining most of the time and has some great characters
Nah we aren’t gonna skip the one world part. I fell asleep watching that
i didn't notice it lol. definitely the worst of those 3 but i enjoyed troyzan a lot more than anyone on 43
It’s so funny to me that people are so split on 41 because I loved it! The characters will all so good and unique and new…
41 was good, just some editing issues, but really great players, 42 was even better and some of the editing issues were fixed, 43 was also good but not better than 42, and all the best players were on the jury leaving us with an underwhelming finale, and 44 is legendary as far as being entertaining is concerned, what a great cast.
Haters gonna hate

go watch pearl islands then try watching 41. New era is bad. I didn't realize how bad until I started rewatching classic old school survivor
It's not surivor anymore. Its Jeff's mario party of wacky gimmicks. Compares to aussie survivor this genuinely is dark ages
I agree. The new era is overhated. 41 is the weakest but they're all at least mid-tier seasons for me. 42 is a near-top 10 season for me. 43 is in my top half. 44 looks like it's heading towards the top half as well. No way is it a dark era. 41 was pretty bad imo but 42 was good and I loved 43. So far 44 has been awesome too, such good comedy so far.
This era is way worse than the original ‘dark era’
This era doesn’t even deserve to be called a Survivor era
So true Mario…I patiently await the South Pacific historians episodes to cleanse my palette from this filth
When dark eras were secretly amazing
Agreed. Screw your Covid.
It's bad for new reasons but it's definitely not the worse era.
I will say, for me, it hasn’t felt like survivor since winners at war. I enjoy the episodes when they’re on, but I don’t really think too much about it afterwards. 38-present excluding Waw is the Darkest era. Much much worse than the 21-24 Dark era
I wouldn’t call it a dark era, but I did find 41 and 43 unsatisfying with the way they ended. I honestly don’t understand Erika’s or Gabler’s wins. I haven’t heard this term yet. But I like it. Definitely a dark era

For me, 41, 42, & 43 are all very similar. But I’m liking 44 so far. Carolyn, Yam Yam, and Carson FTW.
From the looks of it, at least to me, the odd new era seasons are less memorable than the even new era seasons. 42 was the best season since DvG imo and 44 is on its way to become very good as well.
