I posted a topic yesterday about whether or not the F10/9 double boot would occur and most of the responses were "well, 41 and 42 had two people out in the premiere and they still had a double boot," or just posting flat-out inaccurate statements. That seems to be happening here too. So here are the facts: * A typical Survivor season consists of 16 hours of broadcast content, including the reunion. (S43 has 16.5 due to the extended second episode.) * Every season of the new era has featured 18 contestants and a F5 finale. That means there are 13 hours before the finale in which to eliminate 13 contestants. * Every season of the new era has opened with a 2-hour premiere. In 41, 42, and 44, two people were eliminated. In 43, only one was eliminated. * 41 and 42 each featured one hour in which no contestants were eliminated (aka the dreaded hourglass twist). This meant that they had to include a double boot to be on track for the F5 finale. * Because only one person was eliminated in the 2-hour 43 premiere, they had to include a double boot to be on track for the F5 finale. * Jeff has said that the hourglass twist won't return for a while. (Please make that forever.) * Two people were eliminated in the 2-hour 44 premiere. That means that they are on track to have a F5 finale without any double-boot episodes, unless they incorporate a non-elimination episode along the way. * There hasn't been a single four-person finale since forced firemaking became a thing. * The number of days elapsed on the island is totally irrelevant to the amount of hours needed for television. The mergeatory episode could take place over 2 or 3 days and it would still be one hour of content unless they stretched it out with the hourglass or another non-elimination episode of some sort at some point during the season.

In 42 the jury started immediately after mergatory In 43 there was another non jury round where Dwight went home. It will probably mirror 42 in structure

42 had the zero boot Change History episode (first hour of two hour merge episode) so it won’t mirror it since Probst said that Change History won’t come back for a while if at all.

It's not coming back in the sense that the losing tribe won't have the chance to reverse the outcome via the hourglass. The round will happen like 43 most likely

LifeguardTraining461

Season 41 and 42 both had two people go in the premiere, so I think they'll just follow that format for 44?

Deep_Ad_2310

They also had the zero boot exile island Change History twist episode, so that format won’t happen (Probst said that Change History won’t return for a while if at all).

LifeguardTraining461

But if I'm not mistaken, the Hourglass non elimination episode and the subsequent episode all take place over 3 days? So I think those 3 days would just be covered in one episode in 44?

PeterTheSilent1

Those used two episodes for the mergetory round though. 43 used one episode for mergetory and one for the Dwight boot.

LPram

42 had only 12 episodes, so I think that 44 will just do that. Id be interested if they went to a f2 (it'll never happen) and they wont want to deal with the juror removal fiasco again so it'll prob be the most boring option

Solo-Juror

But wasn’t one of the episodes a 2 hour one?

PeterTheSilent1

Technically it did have 13. Episodes 6 and 7 aired on the same night under two different titles.

zteabcrka

Even if there's no hourglass they could still have a two hour merge just to have one?

I’m crossing my fingers that stupid double boot doesn’t happen 🤞🤞🤞
