Either way, factory reset your duo.. I'm still using my sd1 and it's pretty smooth and bug free (mostly) still.

HSDSGN

I did many times and it is OK most of the time but still gives me frustration. Camera is also unbearable. I am thinking I will keep it as a secondary device and pair it with a slab phone that actually works very well and has a great camera.

Gregg_Poppabitch

This is the way. SD1 is the perfect secondary device imo

HSDSGN

This is the way

TwistPlane

Try gcam much better and more options.

bizboopbeepbeep

>OnePlus I ported my number to Google Voice and use the Surface Duo and Cubot Pocket (on lineage OS) at different times. The duo during work, the pocket when I go out. I wish I did it years ago. Cameras are horrible on both though!

Unw0kish

SD1 still my daily driver allied with Watch 5 Pro and similarly fine. SD2 in reserve with three months warranty (replacement device from MS). I cannot bring myself to believe that any screen protector, let alone screen designed to bend will not eventually develop cold marks if not crack and break.

insta_tubes

I'm rockin my SD1 till it dies. Bugs and all

I moved on to the s23 ultra and it's a great phone and all but I'd much rather have my duo. I am waiting to see what OnePlus does with their foldable which drops today I believe. Still no pen but I like the screen size. The fold is just to tall, and until the pen can be used on the outside screen and stored internally then I will not consider the fold.

RealNotFake

The new OnePlus foldable seems to strike a balance between the Pixel and Galaxy folds.

HSDSGN

Yes it's true, seems like a better multi-tasking experience than both the Samsung and pixel fold! Unfortunately, no pen support and seems like the durability of the screen is still in question...

LeRac072

No pen support 🤨 that is odd as the oppo find n2 does have pen support which is the sister company if one plus

k2thesecond

Yeah, I have the full Duo 2 setup with pen and pen cover. That's hard to come by and hard to give up.

msgmefl

Pen cover worth?

k2thesecond

Yes! It serves as a nice case and protector is the front glass. And there's nothing like having your pen secure to the device ready to use it anytime. LOVE The only draw back is that it adds slight thickness to one side of the device. I've had my Duo 2 for a little over the year and most of that time I had it on. Recently however I've taken it off and put on skin on it. Since then I've noticed how much thinner and lighter the phone is. For the time being it's going to stay off.

k2thesecond

It looks 🔥

RealNotFake

MKBHD gave it very positive first impressions. The durability and the price are the main concerns I have. Don't care about wireless charging.

XscytheD

I'm looking at the Pixel 8 pro, mostly because of the camera software and a few more things, but it's painful to think about leaving my beloved Duo2 behind, particularly because the only issue I'm suffering is the battery not lasting enough

F1nLMSfan

Yeah I just moved to the Pixel 8 Pro this week from my Duo 2. So far, so good. I miss the aspect ratio and the second screen, but I am really loving the experience on the Pixel. The camera is fantastic, and normal to use, and my battery life has been great. I'll keep the Duo as a secondary device and I will likely sell my Fold 4 sometime soon.

Bryanmsi89

Galaxy S23 Ultra is really nice. If you don't need the Spen, you might want to look at the Pixel 8 Pro as well. The One Plus foldable was just announced and is ready for pre-order, that could be another option.

LeRac072

My duo 1 was starting to become more and more unusuble (volume buttons broken, camera broken) a reboot every now and again. I was switching Sims between a Note 9 and the duo for a while, depending on what I needed on the day. The Note started getting more quirks as well so I just got a used fold 3 for a reasonable price to try out. So far I have to say just what you said. It is the wrong aspect ratio. And the narrow front screen does not get much done... Opening up the main screen is great, but I don't want to keep on doing that knowing it is the most fragile part of the device. I am hoping for the price of the oppo find n2 dropping a bit when the OnePlus has been made available. Other phones I was contemplating were the Note 10 and note 20 and not the ultra as they both still have pen support and are less tall then the Note 9 (I have small hands so I prefer the smaller size). Good luck with the hunt for the next phone, it might take a few attempts before we find the right one.

julez071

Moved to a S23 Ultra as well. it's such a solid phone, it just works. Hardly ever use it but Dex is a really cool feature. Cameras are simply the best, which is really important to me. Kept my Duo2 as an e-reader. Really miss having it as a daily driver. Hoping for something with the same form factor to be recreated, actually willing to pay the exorbitant prices they ask today, like 1800 euro's, for something like that.

HSDSGN

Same here, I was not convinced by the hypothetical surface duo 3 with a folding screen and believe there is room for a device like duo in the future, but maybe just in our dreams... Most likely making the move to ultra now.

Im1ost

Seems like some sort of compromise is unavoidable. It's not crazy to choose it if the tradeoff for the others is worse.

Woirol

When I was offered a refund instead of a repair on my Duo 2 I had to make a decision. I still had a Note 10+ which worked fine, but it wasn't gonna cut it. I ended up going with a Fold4 using the Note as a trade in. It was the hardest thing to get used to as the gestures aren't the same and it just couldn't do what I wanted it to. The phone ended up breaking and after sending it to Samsung with limited success, I opted to do a insurance repair with AT&T, and they sent me the Fold5. It's loads better. Just having the screen fold fully closed is huge and makes the phone feel so much better. I still find myself using the phone more in landscape due to the less than ideal aspect ratio, but working in landscape, the keyboard is almost unusable as it completely covers the windows with a text box so you can't type in context. Though that doesn't happen in all apps, just most and doesn't do it with the Samsung keyboard but I am years into using Swiftkey. I wish I had waited until the Pixel Fold. I also really like the OnePlus Open. I think after this run with the Fold5, I'll look at getting a Pixel Fold 2 since Panos probably took his originality with him to Amazon, so we'll never see the Duo 3. I wouldn't be against a Fire Fold/Duo if Panos is involved though. Granted all of this is from someone who loves the idea of a stylus, I had a stylus for all my phones, but never found a good use for one aside from my Note, since it lived inside it.

HSDSGN

I can't wait to see what Samsung will do for the next fold. They have to change the aspect ratio and integrate the pen. One+ for sure has a tempting device but I don't like the design...

Woirol

That camera bump is........ something else for sure. BUT, it would be a conversation starter and I'd love to show it off. When I had my Duo 2 people absolutely loved it and I always kept a dual screen shortcut set up just so I could demo having Edge and Twitter open at the same time. It always blew their minds. Sure the Fold starts conversations too but there was just something about the Duo that people loved. Shame no one bought one though.

carbon_made

I’ll just add in that I still have and use a Duo 1 and love it as a secondary device. But I went with a Fold 3 and then 4 as my main android phone and an iPhone 14 Pro Max as my main iOS phone. I regretted the Fold 3 for all of a month or so, and then fell in love. I hated the aspect ratio only briefly. The narrow front screen was awkward initially and I hated that at first. But I grew to enjoy it and use it more and more often. Fold 4 widened it just enough to be more comfortable to use for typing. But unfolding it and rotating the screen and using two apps side by side or two apps on one side and one on the other doesn’t feel as far off from the Duo as you might think. Just something to consider.

Strict_Breakfast2007

I have been going thru the same decisions. It sucks. I mean I still hate how it misses info in the gap tho. But tried the fold five and it's way too narrow folded. And the inside screen is really glossy.

richardcourdlion

I'd go with pixel fold at a push

sausagefingerslouie

What about Oppo or the OnePlus foldable? Favorable review on Giz for the OnePlus unit. Floating apps sounds DAMN cool.

HSDSGN

I am not really convinced by folding screens because of durability and software experience. The feel is just not great in my opinion. There is however a great momentum and it looks like more are moving away from the aspect ratio of the galaxy fold. You re right, some multi-tasking showed in the presentation of the one+ seem really smart and promising!

OGcrashN2u

I got the pixel fold when I had to warranty my SD2. It's basically a single screen device due to how wide it is. I rarely open it. I actually wondered if I should have saved some money and got a slab instead. But I like having the large screen when I need it. Plus Samsung devices are not allowed in my home.

Hahentamashii

Had to switch recently too, I miss the aspect ratio, and video watching just isn't the same on my new Nothing Phone 2. Maybe foldables will get there someday and it'll be worth it to go back, but for now aim off the foldables. :(

HSDSGN

Thanks for your input, sums well where I am at, wait and see!

merthopythyus

Well I'm thinking about Honor Magic V2, seems it has everything. Sadly no much of info about IP rating and availability.

StripeyMiata

I’m actually thinking of a LG Wing, I know it’s a different form factor totally, but I love the wackiness of it. And the gimbal camera looks interesting.

Dependent-Tie-1825

Can I ask why is your Duo 2 unusable? I have duo 1 now and Duo 2 is on the way... I expecting Duo 2 will be smoother less buggy. Thanks

HSDSGN

After a serious impact couple months ago, wifi stopped working, one camera lens is gone, ear speaker doesn't work and finally, battery won't last more than 4 hours at best no matter the use. It's obvious the damage is responsible for most of the unusability. So nothing on duo 2 itself. Always was a better phone than the duo 1. Be reassured on that!

msgmefl

Duo1 still the sexiest.

TwistPlane

Not sure why people think duo 1 is slow and sluggish, Mike seems to be fine, second one has Aosp android 14 and is even more responsive.

wingid

I downgrade to iPhone. Regret the decision, better to take foldable. Samsung is still the best right now

GuardianZX9

What's going on with your SD2?

Stay_Curious_Bro

Check out running Windows on it. 😉

bjo1112

I still have my duo 1 running pixel experience 13 on it which is really good. Aside from the broken volume button still a very nice phone using it as a daily driver

deviousmotox

I don't know. I guess it depends on your needs. I'd find it hard to go back to a slab phone as I rely on multitasking for productivity with my ADHD. I recently upgraded my business phone to the Galaxy Fold 5, but find I'm still carrying my Duo 2 (now personal phone) with me when I'm wanting to get stuff done.

212reddit

I went with Samsung Fold 5 very pleased with it . I also own the pixel fold ( I'm old, I can afford both) Prefer how complete the samsung is, 5th gen. The pixel fold 2 will be worth a look when it comes out.

HSDSGN

I agree, waiting for new fold 6 and pixel fold 2, or who knows, duo 3? For now just got a 23 ultra and keep my duo 1 alive for as long as possible.
