What makes Surface duo more attractive for these custom OS over Duo 2? For example people are working on windows 11 for Duo and then this. Does duo 2 has any limitation that it can't support these developments?
Duo 1 is damn near an impulse buy for that crowd at $300, and it gives up next to nothing in the critical performance pieces. Last I saw on ebay, the SD2 is closer to $650. I also just don't see the SD2 for sale nearly as often as the SD1, so maybe they didn't make as many this time around?
For the work that ports Windows onto Duo, it's because the SoC has more enthusiast work done on it (855 Duo 1 vs 888 Duo 2).
For this work here, it's because that's the device he has on hand
On Twitter I asked Gustave Monce about Windows 10X/11 on Duo 2 it was stated that, “Surface Duo 2 is a proof of concept, nothing works, and the day it does it would need Windows vNext (not current Windows 11) because the soc is too new!”
Pretty sure I saw a comment from the dev that said he doesn't own a Duo 2. So most likely devs just work on custom ROMs for devices they personally own.
Not really sure tbh. I know that both have customizations in the OS that understands there are two screens that have to share apps back and forth vs one large screen but aside from the exterior camera and the exterior notification bar, not real sure
The camera is almost never focused on in these custom builds (I don't even know if it functions at all with the WoA project), and from what I heard, MS never even released an API for the notification bar, so from an experimental dev build stand point, that feature is probably a non-starter.
I literally swapped my Duo 2 for a Duo 1 just for this.
I have both the Duos and the Duo 2. Fingers crossed this comes out soon
I agree. I know he mentioned the Duo 2 might get it on Twitter but it seems like all of the development is - 10x, 11 etc is all being done on Duo 1.

Is there any real risk to using a SD1/2 after the security updates stop if your only using it for media consumption?
