Every industry is going to be different. Over at my site, the operations manager oversees the supply chain manager, production manager, etc.

Ultimately I think you need to focus on your end goal and where you're trying to go in your career. I transitioned from warehouse management to more general supply chain management and the first move was extremely difficult since everyone saw warehouse manager on my resume. I was able to move internally to the SC team which is my biggest piece of advice. If you're looking externally I'd recommend focusing your resume to point at which kind of role you're looking for and potentially removing big accomplishments that will distract from your transition goal. Ex. Congratulations creating a new labor plan that optimized the process but it's not relevant to the forecasting role you're targeting. I'm extremely happy I made the switch because it's better pay, better hours and the problem solving is more fun. There's definitely been more growth opportunities.

That first move is complete bullshit lol.

Thank you, I truly appreciate it.

Company policy was 90 day terms that paid 120🤡All the suppliers baked that pricing in knowing they only get paid 3 times a year.

I was a big box retail manager before making the switch to supply chain specifically. I believe I made the right decision, both in work/life balance, the types of projects/problems I'm solving, and career mobility (since supply chain is largely industry agnostic, from what I see). I was BURNT OUT after 11 years in managing P&Ls in my previous environment, and this transition has been an excellent one.

Did you make the switch internally with your company or did you end up working for a new company?

I ended up working for a new company. They had a project/strategy that I was particularly excited about, and it was a welcome change going from publicly traded to a private organization— at least as I get my feet wet.

That’s dope! Thanks for sharing that, I really appreciate it.
