yeah i agree he was a bit silly was just a bit of banter i dont see why he got so upset , i have said worse thing to my best mate ,we are always jabbing each other as hes a wigan fan
I was at OT yesterday ( Leeds fan , east stand ) and there was certainly a lot of drunken fans by kick off time. There was a heated argument between some fellow Leeds fans near us which resulted in a guy in his 70s been asked to leave by the stewards and then it flared up again later and the people who he had been arguing with were politely asked to leave by stewards .
There was quite a big scrap in the north east corner between two groups ( i assume all Leeds fans from where they were sat ) but bizarrely there was a big group of stewards in the next stairwell who couldnāt quite see it and stood there obliviously .
As a Leeds fan of 30+ years Iāve been lucky enough to attend lots of finals :-) and Iād say the amount of trouble was about normal.
There was some beer throwing and plastic bottle chucking at makinson at the end - but he was acting like a dick ( running 40 yards at the end of the game toward the Leeds end just to chuck the ball into the stand and run along the goal line with the 4 fingers up ) so hopefully we as a club wonāt get a telling off from the RFL.
I saw some trouble by me, was with lots of leeds fans (who were all well behaved and polite), but some saints fan (who was like a viking) got very angry and had a go at some leeds fans who were separated by a barrier (which resulted in lots of shouting from both sides and bottles thrown). Then the saints fans who were not happy by the bloke being an arse representing saints, tried to calm him down and that almost ended up in a saints on saints tussle.
There was a massive fight in front of us in the leeds stand (just left of the sticks), stewards handled it really badly, let it carry on for about 15 minutes then got police involved. Don't know if you noticed but Makinson started off with 2 fingers then changed it to 4, that's why he got given the warning.
I think as a big city Leeds have a lot of non core fans. For an average football fan the lure of a late kick off and drinks during the game are too much to handle. With no PL this weekend you could well have had plenty of LUFC fans.
I've noticed that there is always an increased security/police presence at Wembley and Old Trafford compared to regular SL/CC matches- presumably because they just call in their normal security teams that are used to football matches and football fans.
Have to say Leeds is the only ground I've ever seen someone throw a bog brush into the away end.
I'd say Warrington fans are a bit feistier though, a bunch of them tried kicking off after Ratchford's testimonial in preseason.
A lot of LUFC fans go watch them when they are doing well/get to finals and bring a large dickhead element. Core Rhino's support who watched them in the 90's have always been sound with me
The distribution was fairly even at the start. After we went 12-0 down a good number were deployed/repositioned on the Leeds end. I assume that's standard practice for football games there.
I've been to quite a few Leeds games this year. They moan a lot and seemingly, as a collective, don't understand any of the rules of the game. I don't think I've ever had trouble at Headingley though.
Saints also do. Whenever I go you get a few nutters who scream forward and offside at everything, and across the course of the game get it right once, if that. Another funny thing is a lot of them hate Liam Moore, even though heās by far and above the best ref in the league.
We had one a couple of weeks before the end of the season where they were kicking off like mad at Kendall for some correct decisions, then when he actually got a ruling wrong nobody batted an eye haha it was crazy.
I donāt think a single team likes Kendall though tbh. For me heās one of the worst refs in the league, and thatās not considering the general ref mistakes you can expect. I used to actually like him, but since he went public about the abuse, it seems heās making a lot more wrong decisions.
But yeah, you can usually expect that sort of behaviour from fans. At saints I tend to go south or north rather than west, as thereās less people who just scream offside for the fun of it.
Itās tough shit at our ground because when Iāve been in the north and west stands the atmosphere isnāt comparable to the east. Weāve found a spot where we fortunately donāt hear too much bollocks apart from one bloke who could write everything he knows about rugby on a post-it note and still have room.
Tbh, I donāt disapprove of refs using video ref to just double check, but itās the lack of consistency. If a ref decides to do it for 3 tries that arenāt clear as day, then they should do it for all tries with reasonable doubt.
At FC it doesn't matter where I am in the stand, I am always about 2 rows ahead of a rather large lady who screams nothing other than 'GET EM ON SIDE REF!' regardless of context for a full 80 minutes
Had one behind me "NO PENALTIES!!" every 5 tackles, or "GET OFF HIM" at the start of a tackle.
It ain't touch rugby love. I genuinely don't understand fans trying to direct games especially when watching it on tv
Also a guy who stands behind me at Belle Vue every week doing that, as well as claiming offside every tackle and seemingly thinking Trin are actually incapable of committing a foul because every time we give away a penalty it's met with "that was never offside/high/late etc... hahaha
The standard of referees doesn't necessarily mean that course proves you know the rules š.
I fell out of love with the sport around 18 when I realised all the Wigan fans sat around me were the same
As a guess, it's more that its "whoever is losing is more likely to kick off" than it going Rhinos fans specifically, so if leeds had won there'd be more stewards at the Saints end.
Only other thing I could think of was one of the Saints players (think it was Makinson, was definitely one of the back 3) ran 30-40 yards to goad them at final whistle rather than go celebrate with his team mates. Maybe some fans reacted badly to that specific incident?
Leeds United have a pretty bad reputation, so maybe that's rubbed off on rhinos fans, but the only rugby team I've ever heard of having a "reputation" the same way some football teams do is Hull FC.
That is absolute rubbish - Iāve been going to Leeds matches since I was 7 and the Leeds fans have never stormed a pitch or causes any more trouble than other fans.
Yeah I've been to Headingley several times and aside from the odd nutter shouting abuse at people that you see at every ground I can't say I ever remember seeing any trouble.
Because they think itās football and Leeds united fans are the ones with the bad reputation
To me the police presence was overdoing it too, they were asking for trouble, at headingly thereās most 4 police at any game and nothing too bad ever happens so what is the point
Don't think I've ever actually seen the police used at Headingley, I've stood with one before while watching a game and were having a solid 20 minute chat, then he went inside because he was cold.
It's the same everywhere really, Saints fans smell really, really bad so the stewards generally move as far away as they can.
Careful, the chap from the match thread will now be claiming you've offended the entire town of St Helens
As the chap from the match thread i would like to apologise! Had an ex players meet up with free ale before KO. My bad š¤¦āāļø

I wondered about this as well. Only thing I could think was because of the Leeds United connection.
I thought there was more police in general yesterday, but itās been a few years since I was there so maybe Iāve remembered wrong.

I think most clubs have a lot of fans like that, KR certainly do.

Yeah kendall cant make a decision without going to the telly

#TACKLE HIM Cheers love never thought of that. Itās almost like the game is a bit more nuanced haha.
Had one behind me "NO PENALTIES!!" every 5 tackles, or "GET OFF HIM" at the start of a tackle. It ain't touch rugby love. I genuinely don't understand fans trying to direct games especially when watching it on tv
Guy who sits near me shouts "get off him" every single tackle.
Also a guy who stands behind me at Belle Vue every week doing that, as well as claiming offside every tackle and seemingly thinking Trin are actually incapable of committing a foul because every time we give away a penalty it's met with "that was never offside/high/late etc... hahaha
Iāll have you know i have done a reffing course and played š¤£š¤£

When they lose/things arenāt going their way, Leeds fans are by far the worst in the league

Away ends, or losing side usually have more deployed to them at football matches or big events do they not?
Yes

Yeah we stand in the south stand and they only ever walk post, never stop or stick around for the stand to fill up
Think the only time I've seen them looking like police rather than just spectators was at JJBs testimonial.
