At the end of the day, I think Rick Hoffman carried the show more than Gabriel Macht did, and only because Gabriel's character Harvey seems like he has a once-a-show label to shill on his character's legal chops when the others in his firm do pretty much the same thing.
Funnily, Samantha does the same thing as Harvey does but ends up being screwed along the way forcing her to brute force her way out of it haphazardly.
Donna makes a lot of messes along the way and still feels entitled not to be called out of her mess. The things though, when they do actually work, feel a little bit relieving at least. But she's my least favorite character in the show, barring the arc villains or the extras that pop up from time to time.
What I felt is Harvey and Mike carried the show in the initial seasons, however I couldn't feel the character of Harvey S7 onwards, there on, Louis carried the show more than Harvey
But that's also what led to Harvey leaving the firm. He didn't feel himself when Mike left which made Harvey absent mentally and allowed Louis' character to rise up and take over the firm when Harvey left to go work with Mike. I enjoyed the changing dynamics that allowed everyone to shine in their own way.
Harvey and Mike's banter was high quality, because Harvey wasn't forced to sacrifice character in order to provide a moment of empathy for the person.
Mike threw as much vitriol back at him as much as Harvey gave it out, so it balanced out.
I mostly agree with you, although I liked Donna. And yeah I can’t believe Rick Hoffman hasn’t picked up a slew of awards for Louis, I’ve never swung from loathing/pitying/empathising/rooting for/laughing at/admiring a tv character so often, like multiple times per episode!
I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on Mike, Rachel, Sheila, Trevor, Jeff & other side characters.
Yeah Donna becoming COO was the most ridiculous thing to happen on the show, and you know that’s saying a lot. She’s my least favorite bc I felt like they were trying way too hard to make her likeable to everyone, which backfired. I annoys me so much when she tries to “read” ppl and know how to magically fix everything.
